LOURDES O. CAMBONGA President, PICPA-Cebu FY2015-2016

On July 17, 2015, exactly 370

days ago, we took our oath as

new members of the board of

PICPA CEBU. We pledged to

do our duty faithfully and

impartially and invoked the

help of GOD.

Personally, there was a tinge of anxiety in me .. . Can I do the job? Can I match the

accomplishments of my predecessors? Can I deliver what is expected not only of me but my whole team? The words of Hellen Keller enveloped my mind - alone I can do so little, but with the Team, we can do so much.

As a first step, I conditioned myself that my Board will all be together to achieve what we want to achieve, guided by by the words of Henry Ford ...

Indeed, the 2015-2016 Board moved

forward together. And with these forward steps, we were able to deliver what were expected of us by the National Office, directed by its prescribed scorecard, with the end in mind of serving the PICPAns.

#PICPAMORE IN THIS ISSUE:

Coming together is a beginning

Keeping together is progress

Working together is success

PRESIDENT

A culmination of a year's sterling

service, progress and success

Our team aggressively worked on the professional development of the members,

offering 27 seminars for the year and 1 summit; linked with other professional

group through sports activities; helped accountants and PICPAns in other institutions with in-house seminars.

Together with JPIAns from local

universities, we offered voluntary work for

the success of the International

Eucharistic Congress held in Cebu and,

also, served during the country’s national

election under the NAMFREL/C-

CIMPEL. With enthusiasm, the Team networked

with various government agencies through

courtesy calls, visits and participation in the agencies’ programs and activities.

The Chapter’s socio-

civic activities for the

year were focused on the

marginalized school

children from far-flung barangays in the town of

Pinamungajan.

Twice during the year, school bags, school supplies, toiletries and many more were distributed. (..continued on page 2)

ring the year, the long gone PICPA newsletter was reincarnated – and

#PICPAgram evolved! The newsletter features the quarterly Chapter events –

and this is now featured in the (also) newly resurrected PICPA Cebu website. We are really happy that we activated these two important sources of information for the

benefit of our members. .

“O” is for Outstanding! Ms. Lourdes “Odette” Cambonga receives

her “Outstanding Chapter President Award for FY2015-2016” during

the awarding ceremony held at EDSA Shangri-la, Mandaluyong.

(continued from p.1…) During October of last year, the long gone PICPA

newsletter was reincarnated – and #PICPAgram evolved! The newsletter features the quarterly Chapter events – and this is now featured in the (also) newly

resurrected PICPA Cebu website. We are really happy that we activated these two important sources of information for the benefit of our members.

The membership in good standing of our Chapter has spiraled this year. Other than the new CPAs added to the roster, our Membership team did a good job of convincing “inactive” PICPAns to go back to the fold and join the fun-filled professional development and other activities.

Not to be missed is the Chapter’s continuous and unconditional support to the JPIAns, who in turn are always there, never turning their backs to help the Chapter. The JPIAns are the red blood of the Chapter’s Accountancy Week Celebration!

On the softer side, we reactivated the Chapter’s

scholarship program. Today, our scholar, Ma. Lucille

Ferrer, is enjoying the “educational” generosity of PICPA Cebu. We started introducing changes and policies in our Office Secretariat with the aim of fully professionalizing our office in the days to come.

All our accomplishments during the year would not

have been possible without the wisdom of my

predecessors, the generosity of our sponsors and the

unending support of Fidel, Ipher and Arnold; the daily

fuel – Rosanna, Vilma, Daylin and Rolly, and to everyone

who, in many ways touched the Team’s lives since we

took the reins in July 2015 until June 30, 2016.

And to the Board, we should thank ourselves for a

job well done! I feel so proud and honoured to have

been able to lead the 2015-2016 Team. I would not have

reached the pinnacle of my presidency all alone. Thus, I

would like to share the award of Outstanding

Chapter President with you… it will be one of the

unforgettable accomplishments in my career! It was

always a pleasure working with you; the fun and laughter

during board meetings made the nights shorter.

We achieved more because we worked solidly all

the way, together.

To the new Board with Sir Edgar Detoya on the rein,

ADELANTE!

PICPA-CEBU

INAUGURATES NEW CPAs

by Pamela Gay R. Dadang

Passing the CPA Board Exam marks

the culmination of long years of hard

work in attaining an accounting

degree but certainly does not signify

an end to the abiding quest for

learning. The Master of Ceremony

said it best, “You will no longer

spend sleepless nights studying; you

will spend it working”. The elusive

title “CPA” will serve as a key to the

gates of professional practice and

development. And to officially

welcome these new CPAs to the

professional world, PICPA Cebu held

the Oath taking and Induction

ceremony at the Cebu City Sports

Club last June 24. Among the

illustrious guests who graced the

event were Board of Accountancy

members Hon. Gloria Baysa (Vice-

Chairman) and Hon. Concordio

Quisaot.

2015-2016 PICPA Cebu

President Ms. Lourdes Cambonga

set the tone of the event by inviting

everyone to appreciate the triumphs

of the present while embracing the

responsibilities and opportunities

that come with it.

After the attendees shared

meals during the banquet, it was

time to be nourished with equally

delightful and meaningful message

delivered on point by no less than

the keynote speaker, Hon.

Concordio Quisaot. The relatively

short but stimulating talk revolved

around the established accounting

concept of debit and credit. As

pointed out by Hon. Quisaot, this

concept also applies to life in its

entirety the main difference being

that in accounting, monetary values

are calculated and assigned for

every debit and credit to show that

for every value received there is a

corresponding value given up;

whereas in life, such “figures” may

not be as easily determined because

they encompass virtues and

experiences. It is therefore

important to focus on values with

positive effect and long-lasting

significance.

The program then proceeded to

the heart of the event: Induction of

New CPAs. In behalf of BOA

Chairman Hon. Joel Tan-Torres, who

wasn’t in his healthiest, BOA Vice-

The program then proceeded to

the heart of the event: Induction of

New CPAs. In behalf of BOA Chairman

Hon. Joel Tan-Torres, who wasn’t in

his healthiest, BOA Vice-Chairman

Hon. Gloria Baysa took charge as the

inducting officer of the ceremony and

headed the distribution of certificates

and PRC IDs.

Perhaps the gathering of these newly

inducted CPAs was the best time to

delineate the Board’s strategic plans for

the future development of the profession.

As a representative of the Board, Hon.

Baysa shared some of the programs that

will affect the current and future

generations of CPAs in the country which

should stimulate interest and cooperation

from all accounting professionals.

Shortly before the ceremony

concluded, Cebu’s highest ranking

topnotcher Jayvee Faust Anga gave a brief

speech as a form of response in behalf of

all inductees and as a challenge to the

new professionals to keep going forward.

This was followed by a heartfelt tribute to

the parents who equally deserve

recognition and gratitude for keeping up

with the demands of their children’s

studies and character building.

Following the closing remarks, the newly

inducted CPAs departed with bright

aspirations of what lies ahead in the next

chapter of their lives. -

New CPAs soberly professed their

oath as professionals and as

partners of the government in

nation-building. As individuals who

hold public accountability, these

new CPAs also uttered the Pledge

of Integrity which upholds the

highest standards of ethical

conduct.
