Aldersgate 411
Powell to the People
Kea’s Korner - Sports Review
Change is definitely in the air
at Aldersgate this summer.
You don’t have to go too far to
notice it. Just peak through
the window in the lobby.
We have a new director and
her name is Mrs. Dixon. I
caught up with her and asked
her some questions that I
thought you might like to
know.
Mrs. Dixon is from West
Point, MS. She has worked
with kids for the past twenty-
five years and has three
children of her own.
Mrs. Dixon is a reverend be-
cause she was called to wit-
ness the love of Jesus Christ to
the world around her. She
says that we can call her Mrs.
Dixon or Rev. Dixon, but she
prefers Mrs. Dixon here at
Aldersgate. You now have the
troop scoop on Mrs. Dixon!
July 4,2009 was a sad day
because the bodies of McNair
and Sahel Kazemi were found
dead with gunshot wounds.
McNair was the murder victim of
a murder-suicide.
In My Opinion . . .
I believe that many of us at
Aldersgate are aware of the
circumstances that surround
McNair’s death. The Bible says,
“Let he who is without sin cast the
Steve LaTreal McNair, nick-
named Air McNair, was a foot-
ball quarterback who spent
most of his career in the NFL
with the Tennessee Titans.
McNair led the Titans to the
playoffs four times and the
Ravens once. He also played
in Super Bowl XXXIV.
Locally, Steve McNair was
seen as an idol to many be-
cause of the way he supported
Mississippi. Although Steve
McNair graduated from Alcorn
State University, he started his
football camp in Hattiesburg.
This is probably because
Hattiesburg is a central location
and many children from
surrounding areas can attend.
This year, over 500 kids came
to his football camp at USM.

Prayer Dear Lord,
Please bless the staff and
students attending Aldersgate
Mission. Please keep us safe
under your wings. We pray
that you will cast your angels
around us to guide us. Please
forgive our sins and teach us
to forgive our peers. We pray
that you will heal every sick
body and attend to the needs
of others. Teach us to respect
our elders and appreciate
what is given to us. In your
name we pray. Amen

Dear Avy,
My older sister is annoying. When
she comes home from college, she
keeps me up at night by playing
music and talking to her friends. If
I tell my mom , I’ll be a snitch.
What can I do?
Avy’s Reply
That is a very good question. I say
talk to her calmly during the day.
Tell her that you are willing to
give her a few hours of peace
during the day if she is willing to
give you a few hours of peace at
night. Compromise and respect
each other. Try to find a way to
get along . . .at least until you
move out of the house.
The Counselors Reply
Try communicating to big sis alone
and telling her how you feel. Use
‘I’ statements and not ‘you’ state-
ments. For example, “I feel irritated when I have to listen to your mu-
sic at night”. Statements starting
with ‘you’ sound blaming and can
make the person react more defen-
sively. Also, compromise as much
as possible.
Got a problem?
If something’s bothering you at school, home, or Aldersgate - just send it to Avy. Place it in the Ask Avy box at Alders-gate. Do not write your name
on it and nobody will ever know who sent it.

Special thanks to Mr. Lamar for giving us a
tour of the Sumrall Recycling Center. The
Girl Scouts got to see some amazing recycling up close and personal. We also learned some
extremely interesting facts about recycling.
Thanks also to Ms. Mary for putting together
this wonderful trip and educating us on ways
to help improve our world.
This week’s big green challenge is very
simple so we want everybody to pitch in
and help save the earth together. Did you
know that each year Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam cups?
This is enough to circle the earth 436
times! Well, I think we can all shorten that
huge number by recycling the Styrofoam
cups we use for snacks at Aldersgate next
week. So get ready, get set, and lets go
green!!

Hello Everyone,
Although I’m no longer the director at
Aldersgate, I still miss each and every one
of you very much. I was, however, able to
continue being the Girl Scout leader of
Troop 84. How lucky was I!!!
Right now, five of the girls are working on
earning their Silver Award. This is a big
award that requires lots of hard work. Part
of earning this award will include putting
together this newsletter each month.
We need your support. If you have some-
thing you would like to see in the newslet-
ter, please contact one of the following:

I am proud of all the girls in the troop and
would like to acknowledge Jessica Weaver
and Justice Waters who are also working
hard this year. Sincerely,

What’s the 411? first stone”. I will try not to judge him.
I think the moral to this story is to do
good at all times. Our blessings go
out to his family and friends.
An Engineer uses science, math,
and technology to solve
problems. Want to design the
next plane or rocket? Or why not
become a chemical engineer
and work with foods and
medicines?
