Dear All,
The practice of evaluating students through examination has its limitation. It is acceptable
even today, as efforts to finds alternative methods for such purpose continue to elude us.
While multiple choice test patterns ensure more extensive coverage of the prescribed
syllabus, it ignores exhaustive learning of the subject. This has resulted in overall
improvement in grades exponentially. The overall learning curve is, however, not directly
proportional to the grades obtained. These tests are simply not designed to assess the
reasoning and analytical skill. The other methods of testing tend to encourage learning
subjects by rote.
Technological advances have necessitated that students develop necessary skills to be able
to be flexible sufficiently and adapt to the demands of the situation. Technology is ever
changing and it demands sufficient flexibility and without bias. This would imply that we
should be prepared to use our learning to, not only analyse and assess, and change if
necessary . It is not that change is new phenomenon; it is the rapidity of change that poses
the challenge.
Hence , all that is mentioned has to be communicated with this objective. Learning would
then be more expansive to include analysis, discussion and practical demonstration.
Our primary objective is to train students to be self-sufficient and capable of facing
the challenges .One big advantage of technology is that teaching methods can be modi-
fied to make it enjoyable for the students. The key to learning is avoidance of boredom
and development of concentration.
It is a challenge and we need to work towards it.
Warm regards,
John Andrew Bagul

An Interactive Session with Parents and Students of Class VIII Topic: Stream Selection-Is it too early to think about it?
Venue: A.V. Room
Students in Classes VIII and IX are at the perfect stage to begin taking a planned approach towards their career.
This is the stage where attitudes and beliefs about career begin to get formed. Thus, creating awareness of
careers at this stage gives one enough time to explore their abilities and interests. This early exposure also helps one
to avoid limiting their pool of career options, and choose from a wider range of opportunities. Career
decisions play a pivotal role in shaping the future growth and development of the students. In today’s
environment of multiple options, it is essential that option exercised ultimately takes into consideration all
information available. On near completion of Class VIII, the students will be given a choice of stream which they
would like to pursue. They need to identify their strength and weaknesses . The importance of knowing
one’s potential and subject of interest before making a decision was reiterated. Stress was laid on the right
combination of subjects as per their aptitude which should be reflected in their academic performance.
The students were encouraged to pursue of extra-curricular activities. These activities help them in the
development of soft skills which is much sought after by the recruitment cells. SCIS helps in making the right
choice in association with ICS, under the able guidance of Dr. Amrita Dass.
They were also informed of the Preliminary Aptitude Assessment on 6th May and one to one Counselling session to
be held in July with the professional team lead by Dr Dass.

Primary Assemblies
The students of Class V, through the assembly titled
new beginnings welcomed the Bangla Year 1426.
The assembly focused resolutions that we should take
to protecting our Planet Earth and stop exploiting all
that has been given free to us – all natural resources.
The young and dynamic students of Class V, through the assembly
- Every Vote Counts, explained ‘Why Voting is important. A voter
might feel that a single vote does not make any difference.
However, the balance tilts when this becomes a national attitude
and crores of votes are not cast. By casting their vote, citizens may
not necessarily be able to get the best candidate elected but by
avoiding casting their vote they improve the chances of the
unsuitable ones winning the polls.
The main theme of the the assembly was ‘May Day’ or
International Labour Day.
The students of Class V, explained through the
assembly, why May day is cekebrated all over the
world.
