Texas City, TX Texas City, High School

BIO Ashlynn is a freshman middle blocker from Texas City, Texas where she played and graduated from Texas City High School. During her time at Texas City, Ashlynn was Hudl player of the week in October of 2019 and earned All - District, All - State, First Team, and All - Conference all four years and MVP for two years. Ashlynn was Dickinson’s Invitational MVP in 2017, and Offensive Player of the Year for 2 years. Ashlynn also played club volleyball for Houston Stellar. When not playing volleyball, Ashlynn enjoys to do hair and makeup, listen to music and sing, and

loves to cook. Ashlynn is a Kinesiology major and plans on becoming a Physical Therapist.

Ashlynn was born on April 13th, 2003 to parents Derrick and Kimley Lewis. Ashlynn has one sister and one brother.

Important things to Ashlynn: Ashlynn’s father and grandfather are her biggest motivations. She does everything for them, and even though her grandfather is not here with her she knows he is proud of her (11/18).

Words from Coach D: Ashlynn has the height and speed that will help us score fast out the middle as well as be quick to the pins to block. I loved getting to know Ashlynn in the recruiting process and I believe her teammates will look to her for leadership on the court. She is hungry and I expect Ashlynn to be a big key to our success this season and I m excited to see her develop into a phenomenal middle blocker.

MARIAH ELLIS 2

FRESHMAN

6’1” MB

Russelville, AR Russellville High School

BIO Mariah joins the Lady Rebels from Russellville, Arkansas. The 6 ’0 ” middle blocker graduated from Russellville High School. During her time at Russellville, Mariah was named to the All -Conference team, player of the game vs. Siloam Springs, two time varsity letterman, and also played basketball until her junior year. Along with her athletic accolades, Mariah graduated with honors as a member of the Honor Society and earned the Russellville Volleyball Booster Club Scholarship. She also played club volleyball for 501 Volley where her team

earned 1st place at the Kansas City Show Me Qualifier, 1st in the Ozark Invitational, and 1st in Volley in the Rock. She was also a part of the 501 18 s National Team and Golden Suns. When not playing volleyball, Mariah enjoys thrift shopping, being outdoors, listening to music, eating and hanging out with friends. Mariah is majoring in Architecture/Drafting and plans to seek a career in becoming an Architect or Civil Engineer.

Mariah was born on October 5th, 2002. She lives in Russellville with parents Stephanie

and Henry Garner and brother, Amare Ellis.

Important things to Mariah: Mariah loves horror movies and people think she s funny.

Words from Coach D: Mariah is fast and will learn fast. Mariah has the ability to be a versatile attacker and be able attack from the pins. She already has a good foundation and volleyball IQ but to see where she can go, is so exciting.

Houston, TX West Bloomfeld High School

BIO Juliana, also known as “Juli” is an incoming DS/L from Houston, Texas. Although originally from Texas, Juli played and graduated from West Bloomfield High School in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. During her time at Bloomfield, Juli was named to the Academic All -State team and All -League Honorable Mention. She also was a District Finalist and a Regional Semi -Finalist during the playoffs. Juli was an assistant athletic trainer for her high school. She also played for High Street Volleyball club where her team made it to two national qualifiers

(Nike Mid East Qualifier in Indianapolis and the Northeast Qualifier in Philadelphia). When not playing volleyball, Juli enjoys to go shopping, play beach volleyball, and loves spending time with family and friends. Juli is earning a Kinesiology degree and plans to seek a career in becoming an Athletic Trainer.

Juli was born on July 30th, 2003. Her parents are Bo and O Meika Davis, and has two brothers, Beau and Jackson.

ALISHYA ROMAN 4

FRESHMAN

Kailua, HI LeJardin Academy

BIO Alishya enters her first season at Lee College as an outside hitter from Kailua, located on the island Oahu, Hawai ’i. Alishya played and graduated from LeJardin Academy where she helped lead her team to a D2 ILH State Championship in 2017, was named Honorable Mention as a middle hitter in 2018 and 2019, earned the 2019 Competitive Award, and was named to the 2019 AVCA Phenom watch list. Along with her athletic accolades, Alishya was a member of the Japanese Honor Society. She also played club volleyball for Ka Ulukoa, where her

team made it to the 2018 AAU National Tournament. When she is not playing volleyball, Alishya likes shopping for clothes and school supplies, singing and listening to music, drawing, and spending time with her cousins. Alishya is studying Nursing and will seek a career as an Anesthesiology Nurse.

Alishya was born on January 31st, 2003 to parents, Angie and Willy. Alishya has two brothers, Ayze and Koloau and two sisters Alexsi and Mariah.

Important things to Alishya: Alishya believes that everything happens for a reason. Everything that is meant for you will come in time if you work for it, and always work towards something better. Trust the process and hard work pays off.

Words from Coach D: Alishya is a natural born leader. I think she will play a large role in our team this year. I m very confident in her ability to lead the team on and off of the court. She is capable, vocal, team oriented and focused on her goals.

BIO Gracie is a freshman defensive specialist/ libero from League City, Texas where she played and graduated from Clear Falls High School. While at Clear Falls, Gracie was named 2nd Team All -District as a junior (2019 -2020) and 1st Team All -District as a senior (2020 -2021). Gracie played club volleyball at Houston Stellar. When not playing volleyball, Gracie enjoys traveling, painting, and crystal work. Gracie will major in Criminal Psychology and plans on becoming an FBI Behavioral Analysis Agent.

Gracie was born on October 30th, 2002. Her parents are Michelle and James Lewis and she has four siblings Chris, Matt, Jess, and Bre.

Important facts to Gracie: Family and friends mean a lot to Gracie.

Words from Coach D: I m so excited for Gracie. She brings the libero energy that we are looking for. She is always communicating to her team regardless of the situation. Her spirit

SAMIYA HARRIS 6

SOPHOMORE

Detroit, MI Ecorse High School

BIO SaMiya transfers to Lee College as a sophomore outside hitter from Clarendon College and is a native to Detroit, Michigan where she played and graduated from Ecorse High School. During a military volleyball camp, SaMiya was given the Leadership award. She also played club volleyball for Club Extreme. When not playing volleyball, SaMiya likes to cook and do makeup. SaMiya will be working towards earning a Woman Studies degree and plans on becoming a Midwife/OBGYN.

SaMiya was born on June 20th, 2002. Her parents are Bertha Crane and Corey Harris and has 7 siblings, SaKiya, Dajion, Gabrielle, Arianna, Cody, Zuri, and Adrianna.

Important things to SaMiya: Her big support system

Houston, TX Langham Creek High School

BIO DeAnna is a 2020 graduate from Langham Creek High School in Houston, Texas. While at Langham Creek, DeAnna was named First Team All -District, Second Team All - District, Under - Armour All - American Volleyball Athlete, First Team Academic Athlete All - District, and holds the school ace record. Along with her athletic awards, DeAnna was also named to the Honor Roll and was a part of FCA and choir. DeAnna played club volleyball for Houston Juniors. When not playing volleyball, DeAnna enjoys drawing, going to Main Event, board games and doing

puzzles. DeAnna will be working towards earning a Architecture degree and plans on becoming an Architect.

DeAnna was born on February 9th, 2002. Her parents are Anabel and Ron Spell and has three siblings, Jonah, Torria, and Ariana.

Stuttgart, Germany Schickhardt Gymnasium

BIO Sina is a Sophomore middle blocke from Stuttgart, Germany where she played and graduated from Schickhardt Gymnasium. While at Schickhardt, Sina was named MVP middle blocker in the state of Baden - Wuerttemberg, selected for the Federal Base team, and earned 2nd place in the German Club Junior National Championship. Sina also played club volleyball for Allianz MTV Stuttgart where she played in the second highest division for the Allianz team, was selected for the selection team of her state: Baden - Wuerttemberg, and played in the

World Cup in Italy and finished 5th. Prior to coming to Lee College, Sina was at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, KS. When not playing volleyball, Sina enjoys socializing, hanging out with friends and family, being active, spending holidays with family, eating good food, playing family games, trying new foods, and experiencing new cultures. Sina will be working towards a Communication degree and is undecided on what career path she wants to take in the future.

Sina was born on January 15th, 2002. Her parents are Gamze and Osman Toroslu and she is the only child.

Words from Coach D: Sina will bring playing experience to our program and will rely on her experience and maturity to guide and lead our team. I m excited to have Sina. She is a great person and abilities will aid the team as we strive for our goals.

College Station, TX A&M Consolidated High School

BIO Cierra “CC ” is a freshman middle blocker from College Station, Texas where she played and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School. During her time at A&M Consolidated, Cierra made All - District and was named MVP and All - Region in basketball. She also played club volleyball for Woodlands Revolution. When not playing volleyball, Cierra enjoys water movies, spending time with friends & family, playing basketball, sleeping, shopping, and eating. Cierra will be working towards a biology degree and plans to seek a career in becoming a veterinarian.

Cierra was born December 21st, 2002. Her parents are Nelday Roy and Jimmie Gilbert. She has two siblings (Karla and Jimmie Jr).

Important things to Cierra: Her friends and family are extremely important to her.

Senden, Germany Pascal-Gymnasium Münster

BIO Lea is a freshman setter from Senden, Germany where she played and graduated from Pascal -Gymnasium Münster. During her time at Pascal, Lea was named the tournament MVP at the regional championships. Lea also played club volleyball for VCO Münster and played in the German Beach Championships twice where she came in 2nd and 3rd place and played in two German Indoor Championships. When not playing volleyball, Lea enjoys reading books, spending time with friends and family, and playing tennis and beach

volleyball. Lea will be working towards a Business & Management Degree and is undecided on what career path she wants to take in the future.

Lea was born on July 27th, 2002. Her parents are Steffi and Michael Venghaus and she has a twin sister, Kim Venghaus.

Words from Coach D: Lea is very skilled and it will be an effortless to utilize her. She has such smooth setting that will set her hitters up for success.

Humble, TX Summer Creek High School

BIO Imari joins us as a pin hitter from Humble, Texas where she played and graduated from Summer Creek High School. While at Summer Creek, Imari was named Most Improved for 2019 -2020, 1st Team All - District (2019 -2020 and 2020 -2021), District 21 -6A Co -Offensive Player of the Year (2020 -2021), and District 21 -6A in high hitting percentage, kills, and blocks. Imari also played club volleyball for Houston Stellar. When not playing volleyball, Imari enjoys traveling, exploring new things and ideas, hanging with family, and shopping. Imari will be working towards a

Criminal Justice degree and is undecided on what career path she wants to take in the future.

Imari was born on September 8th, 2002 to parents, Ricky and Inca Wilson and she has two sisters, Iyaria and Iyanna.

Words from Coach D: Imari has experience with all positions. I would describe her as a utility hitter for us so although her primary position will be on the pins, she can be able to take swings from anywhere across the net.

Imari has such a high ceiling and with her athleticism and learning our system.

San Antonio, TX Karen Wagner High School

BIO Trinide is a freshman right side hitter from San Antonio, Texas where she played and graduated from Karen Wagner High School. During her time at Karen Wagner, Trinidie made the 2018 SAISD Invitational All - Tournament team, 2019 T -Bird Invitational All - Tournament team, 2018 and 2019 1st Team All - District, 2018, 2019 and 2020 All - District Academics, and was named to the 2019 Tivy Fight Never Dies -Best Setter award. Along with her athletic accolades, Trinidie was a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, and top 5%

in her class. She was also a part of FCA and FCCLA. She also played club volleyball for San Antonio Juniors, where her team qualified for the 2021 18 s GJNC Open Division. When not playing volleyball, Trinidie enjoys shopping, listening to music, road trips, spending time with family, making tiktoks, and sleeping. Trinidie will be working towards earning a Chemistry degree and plans to seek a career in becoming a pharmacist.

Trinidie was born on March 15th, 2003. Her parents are Christie Price Davis and Tryus

Davis. She has one sister, Teighan Davis.

Important things to Trinidie: Her favorite subjects are math and science.

Lā’ie, O’ahu Kahuku High & Intermediate School

BIO Jannie is a freshman setter from Lā ’ie, O ’ahu where she played and graduated from Kahuku. While at Kahuku, Jannie achieved CTE Honors, Academic Honors, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was also a part of the HOSA Club (Health Occupations Students of America) and Sustainability Club. She played club volleyball for North Shore Raiders where her team attended the Triple Crown West Coast Invitational, SCVA Las Vegas Classic, SCVA Junior National Qualifier, Ann Kang Invitational, and the Trans Pacific Championships. When not playing volleyball,

Jannie likes to listen to reggae/island music, spend time with friends and family, go to the beach to watch sunrises and sunsets, and star gazing. Jannie is majoring in Kinesiology and plans on becoming a Physical Therapist.

Jannie was born on February 28th, 2003. Her parents are James and Bonnie Blake and she has five sisters.

Words from Coach D: Jannie brings a fiery energy to the court and I anticipate her to be able to run our offense effortlessly.

HEAD COACH

DANIELLE ESSIX

BIO Danielle Essix joined Lee College as head volleyball coach in July of 2018. Essix ’s coaching era went from 11 wins in 2017 to 20 wins and placing fourth in the highly competitive Region XIV Conference in 2019 prior to the 2020 COVID -19 athletic suspension. Since joining the Rebel Athletic staff, she has coached 1 Libero of the Year, 2 First -Team All -Conference athletes, 2 Second -Team All -Conference athletes, 4 Honorable -Mention All -Conference athletes and 3 Academic All -Americans. Danielle Essix has a 100% transfer rate for players that desire to play at the next level with 55% transferring to Division I programs, 33% transferring to Division II programs, and 11% transferring to NAIA programs.

Prior to her arrival to Lee College, Danielle spent two seasons (2016 – 2017) serving as the Assistant Coach for Blinn College. She assisted Blinn to a 24 – 9 finish while placing first in the conference and fourth in the region. Coaching 1 NJCAA All -American and over 10 All -Conference athletes. Prior to her arrival to Blinn, Essix spent two years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, East Central University. During her four – year career at East Central University, she finished ranked in the top 10 in 11 statistical categories, including seven spots

in the top five. Essix ranks second in points (1,122.5), third in matches played (123), second in attacks (3,062), second in kills (961) and second in digs (989). In her senior season at East Central University, she led with 275 kills and 340 digs. Essix was named to the Second Team All – Conference in the Great American Conference and Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year as well as Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year.

Essix is a graduate of Commerce High School where she was a four -sport athlete, lettering in volleyball, basketball, cheer and track, earning All – District and All - American (cheer) awards every year. She is a Texas Sports Writers Association All – State selection and named district MVP at Commerce High School.

Essix earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training and her Master of Education in sports administration from East Central University.

Outside of coaching, Danielle enjoys kickboxing and traveling with her dog, Malibu.

ASSISTANT COACH

ABOLANLE “BONDIE” ONIPEDE

BIO Bondie enters her first season as an assistant coach after serving as the assistant coach at Missouri Southern State University for three seasons. While at Missouri Southern, Onipede helped the Lions post four All - MIAA performances including three in years two that earned All - MIAA honors while also helping to lead the Lions to their first conference tournament appearance since 2008.

Prior to Missouri Southern, she attended the University of Alabama as a collegiate volleyball player for two seasons, after winning a national title at Blinn College. At Alabama, Onipede appeared in 13 matches with three starts as a senior. She had seven kills against Cleveland State and Oral Roberts and posted a season high nine kills against McNeese State.

As a junior, she played in 18 matches with six starts for the Crimson Tide. She had a season high ten kills and a .533 attack average against Auburn.

As a sophomore at Blinn, Onipede helped the Bucs to a 31 12 record and finished the season ranked seventh. She was a first team All Conference and All Region pick, while being named to the NJCAA All Tournament Team. She finished the season ranked sixth in hitting percentage.

As a freshman, Onipede helped the team to a 40 1 record and the NJCAA National Championship. She was the conference Player of the Week four times and was a first team All Conference and All Region pick, while earning honors on the NJCAA All Tournament team. She finished the season ranked tenth nationally in hitting percentage.

Onipede prepped at John Foster Dulles High School in Houston and earned a Bachelor of Human Environmental Science from the University of Alabama and a Masters of Education in Instruction & Curriculum from Missouri Southern State University.

THE PROGRAM Lee College volleyball program has competed in the NJCAA Division

I level since 1977. Throughout the years, the program has consistently

performed at a high level, earning high national rankings and receiving

many invitations to annual NJCAA national tournaments.

A new era is in store for the Lee College Lady Rebels Volleyball program.

The Lady Rebels come into the 2019 volleyball season with a new

coaching staff, new energy and new excitement. New Head Coach

Danielle Essix is pleased to report that she and her new team are working

well together. “They have done well with the things I’ve asked them to

change. They’ve been good teammates and they’re working hard.”

Coach Essix has set high goals for her new team, stating that she would

like to win Conference and Region this season. In addition to strong

performances on the court, the Lady rebels are expected to succeed off

of the court. “We want to make sure we are setting a good foundation

for our student – athletes. We want them to be able to graduate from

our program and move on to be successful.”

The 2019 Volleyball season will be exciting for both the fans and the

Lady Rebels.

SPORTS ARENA & WELLNESS CENTER

The Lady Rebels play in a state-of-the-art 26,000 square foot arena with

seating to accommodate 1,500 raging Rebel fans. The facility features

a 3,800 square foot wellness center, indoor walking track, VIP and

conference room, concession areas, and locker rooms fit for visiting

teams, Lee College students and employees.

Lee College athletes and students can use the Wellness Center by

joining classes that will help develop the body and strength they

choose to have. The Wellness Center provides a variety of weight

lifting equipment as well as treadmills, stationary bikes and stepper

machines.

Along with the Wellness Center, the Gymnasium has a complete weight

lifting facility that will accommodate the needs of anyone who likes to

use free weights.

LEE COLLEGE PRESIDENT

DR. LYNDA VILLANUEVA

BIO Dr. Lynda Villanueva, Lee College’s 10th president in its 87-year history, is the third female and the first Hispanic to serve in the role.

Dr. Villanueva believes a strong campus is built around valuing everyone’s individual contributions and caring for their well-being, and she strives to model this belief in all of her roles on campus and in the community. As a leader, Dr. Villanueva builds high-performing teams based upon trust and transparency, driven by data and core values. As a partner to business and industry, Dr. Villanueva builds sustainable partnerships with the petrochemical, health care, and construction industries developing the talent that regional employers require and providing good jobs for students. Her strongest core value is success for all students.

Dr. Villanueva is a passionate advocate for student success. She believes in the powerful potential of all students to grow into productive members of the community and leads teams to serve all students regardless of their backgrounds. Her work focuses on building student success agendas that equitably serve the whole student.

Prior to her role at Lee College, she served as Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Brazosport College, a two-time Aspen Top Ten Finalist. She is an Aspen Presidential Fellow, a Data Coach for Achieving the Dream, and a board member for the United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County, the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Port Economic Alliance and the Baytown-West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation.

Dr. Villanueva holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Colorado State University, a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Houston, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Houston.

Dr. Villanueva is married to William Davidson. They have two children: Sarah, 20, and Jaden, 11. Their favorite family activities include hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park and spending time with their dogs.

NICK WADE

BIO Nick Wade enters his first season at Lee College. A native of the Baytown area Nick Wade went to school in Goose Creek ISD and spent a short stint working in the school district. After graduating from St. Thomas High school in 2005 where he lettered in football, basketball and track Nick Wade attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Wade played basketball 4 years there and was a part of the championship team in 2010. After college Wade made his way back to Baytown as a volunteer assistant for the Lee College Men’s Basketball team under then coach Roy Champagne. In 2013 Lee College won its only Region XIV championship and earned a spot in the national tournament.

After various stops as an assistant coach at high schools across Texas, Wade became a volunteer assistant at Angelina College

in Lufkin, Texas. While obtaining his Master’s Degree at Sam Houston State, Wade helped with operations, game planning and recruiting of the men’s basketball team. In 2018 after receiving his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology, he landed the job as head coach at Angelina College. In two years, Wade’s teams had 2 All- Americans, 4 All- Conference Selections, 3 NJCAA All Academic members, a South Zone Championship, A Region XIV tournament championship and back to back coach of the year honors. Wade was selected by TopConnect as part of their inaugural class of the top 40 junior college coaches in the country. Wade looks forward on building on previous success and expanding the brand his hometown college.
