October, 2016 Vol. XXIII-V From the Editors’ Desk The month of October had us all running on our toes as we bade goodbye to exams and slowly welcomed winters. VDJS Ramleela is competent enough to give good competition to some daily soap. The cast, like every time, baffled the audience with their theatrical skills and reminded us all that 'Victory of good over Evil' in not only conned to the great epic. We were still partying out the termination of our Mid- Terms when we wrapped our mind around the fact that preparations for the two BIG Days were about to begin. When we say BIG DAYS we don't mean days that have more than 24 hours but rather days that are big metaphorically because they are the result of the culmination of days of hard work, creativity and planning by the entire VDJS Family. We proudly refer to 'The Annual Day' and 'The Annual Sports Day' 2016. As we all worked collectively, with each passing day we realized that 'We may not have it all together, but together we have it all'! The two days went by in a jiffy but were a great hit. Cheers to Jindalites! You don't graduate from VDJS without being chased to aend hobby classes every Saturday. (No maer how hard you try, Ma'am Dixit will make sure you don't bunk). Forceful and irritating as it may sound but that's how we discover our hidden talents and potential. Both of which were prey evident in the exhibitions put up by various hobby clubs under the Annual Day Celebrations. The icing on the cake was that we got to leave for a week long break to celebrate Diwali- The Festival of Lights with our families, which marked the end of yet another month. (The 10th one) (Yikes! We are coming close to the end xD). Happy Reading! Student Editors Vasundhara Panghal, Samiksha Singh Sawubona! The Founder’s Special

VIDYA DEVI JINDAL SCHOOL, HISAR 2

Gandhi Jayanti CelebrationsGandhi Jayanti was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in VDJS Campus. The day began with a nature care note by planting saplings of fruit trees in the farmland of school, which is at a distance of about 3km from the school. NCC cadets and IAYP students walked a distance of 3 km early in the morning for this project. After the saplings plantation, all the students proceeded to the Auditorium, where a special assembly was conducted by the students of Kasturba House. A group of approximately 40 students of ShaishavKunjorphanage, Kaimri Road, Hisar participated and displayed their hidden talents like dance and music. The students of Kasturba House displayed a skit showing the importance of cleanliness. The children of support staff also presented an enthusiastic dance performance on the song RaghupatiRaghav. The VDJS students were mesmerized by the performances of the inmates. After the assembly, an Athletic Meet was organized for the support staff and their family members and the students of the orphanage. Different events were conducted for different age group like frog race, sack race, 4X100m relay, volleyball match, tug of war etc.The students of class X helped the Sports Department for organizing these events; it was followed by a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of different events. 5 lucky draws were also there. The students of grade VIII served the lunch to the members of the support staff and the orphanage kids in the dining hall. The students of grade IX, XI and XII cleaned the academic block. The day ended with a thought in everybody's mind that cleanliness is next to godliness and service to mankind is the rst step towards reaching it.

It was a Ramleela Performance like no other. The authentic and brilliant performances by the students on the great epic Ramayan made it actually live. The anxiety and the eagerness in the audience were broken occasionally by the giggles and the laughter of lile faces painted in bright colours. A group of around 50 students from class IV to XII presented a colourful interpretation of the epic Ramayana in the School's Auditorium. A temporary stage was set up in the auditorium. The show had been put together after a month of hard work and practice. Appreciating the two- hour display put together by the students and teachers, the Principal Ms ShaliniMehrotra congratulated them for puing together a brilliant performance. She said that only VDJS Girls can do it. She could not hide her elation on seeing the students perform so well, especially the characters of Ram and Ravan, being played by Class XII students. Talking like a proud mother, she said that it is important for children to stay connected with the Indian culture and its values and it can be best done through Indian mythology. Expression through various art forms helps children to grow into a holistic personality. All the members of teaching staff, administrative staff, support staff and their family members were present to witness the show. They all appreciated the wonderful performance of the children. We hope to come up with many such performances in the future as well.

Round Square International Conference

You can head for the horizon, turn your face towards the sun but you may not nd the answer when the day is done. You may of a destination, put your marker in the sand but you may be none the wiser in your promised land. But when all is said and done, you goa keep on moving on just remember as you travel near and far…Wherever our wandering takes us, it's always the journey that makes us who we are! Those were the lines of our Conference song, something that none of us is going to forget for the rest of our lives, not just because it's awfully catchy but also because of the memories aached to it and the Conference. Apoorva Pilania, Amisha Godara, Neeharika Malik, Riddhima Pathak and I, had the once in a lifetime opportunity to aend the Round Square International Conference 2016 hosted by the Aiglon College, located 1170 meters above sea level in the French speaking village of Chesières in the Swiss Alps. Whatever I had heard about the pulchritude and grandeur of Switzerland was all nugatory, because words aren't enough to describe its beauty. Hisar being a prey warm place when it comes to the weather, we all took some time to get homely in the new country. Our stay arrangements were done in different Boarding Houses where we shared rooms with students from different corners of the world. The theme of the Conference was 'The Journey that makes us' not only referring to the journeys we made to arrive in Europe, but also encompassing the journey each one of us makes through his or her life and the journey Round Square has made through the last 50 years. The theme was further brought to the fore by the remarkable set of Key Note Speakers which included Alessandro Borghese, Andrejka Bernatova, Meagan Fallone, Elizabeth Turner, Alessandro Barel Di Sant Albano, Ben Saunders, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Koome Gikunda, Al Worden, Alessandra Morelli, Nick Howes and Mark Grist. All the delegates were divided into different Barazza Groups where we discussed the Round Square Ideals and engaged in fun activities. It was so heartwarming to see so many diverse people get together so well. But I must say, it was not all talking and listening as we had to work our joints out on the Adventure Day. The Ideals Day was another fun day in which we engaged in our selected activities which included high ropes course, nature walk, visit to the museum, etc.The Ice Hockey Match was another one of the highlights of the conference. On the last day, schools from across the globe performed in their Cultural Evening showcasing the culture of their countries. The Conference concluded with the End of Conference Dance Party where we all grooved to musical hits. We've all come back as changed individuals. The Conference enabled us to explore ourselves and our potential. It gave us the opportunity to meet young people like us, from across the world and understand their culture and thinking, broadening our horizons. To top it all off, after the Conference we went on a weeklong trip to Italy and Austria exploring various cities and cuisines. In a nutshell we came back to VDJS evolved in ways we could not have imagined and with memories of a lifetime.

UTOPIA-NOT JUST A DREAMI, along with, Seerat Hundal, Pridhi Singla, Lavanshi Mial, Vanshika Mial, Mugdha Garg, Suveccha Agarwal, Vamika Singh, Aditi Gupta, Shubha Dhakal aended the Round Square Conference hosted by Sarla Birla Academy from October 3-5, 2016. The theme of the conference 'UTOPIA-NOT JUST A DREAM' was based on the Round Square ideal 'Internationalism'. The Chief Guest as well as the Keynote Speaker for the Opening Ceremony was Mr. Vaibhav Natu who talked about Internationalism and how a utopian world can be made possible. Following the Opening Ceremony, everyone was divided in their Barazza Groups that were Namaste, Bonjour, Ola, Hola, Halo, Ni hao. The Barazza sessions were thought-provoking as everyone discussed about the theme of the conference, debated on the possibility of a Utopian society and tried to brainstorm some possible suggestions. Along with serious discussions, the barazzas were full of fun and laughter as everyone introduced themselves, played games and interacted with each other! There were numerous exciting and cool activities like Peace Expressions where the delegates drew their imaginary utopian world on plastic balls and on the arm of their partner. All of us, fully set and energised, after waking their artist up from the slumber, trekked up to the Ancient Temple of the 10th Century which was tiring but as we reached atop, the satisfaction was colossal seeing the sunset in its darker shade of orange and yellow. I marveled at the beauty of Bangalore and how all of us, so different yet so similar, from all around the country, were together and making a new family. The night awaited a grand Principal's Dinner for all the delegates and everyone had a whale of a time as the SBA band played some exceptionally good music which compelled everyone to tap their feet along! Shubha also performed 'Love Yourself' by Justin Bieber which received great kudos! Zumba is a dance tness program which gives the people a chance to dance with great people and burn a ton of calories without even realizing it. The eminent South Indian dancer, Mr. Daniel led our morning Zumba and taught the delegates some incredible moves and steps! The language workshop was another thing on the roll. Everyone was again divided in different groups like, Sanskrit, German, French, Spanish, Kannada and the basics of the languages were taught to all of us. For all the linguists or the ones wanting to be one, the activity was a piece of good fortune! After this activity, all the budding polyglots were taken for a visit to an Art museum which had all the old statues, idols, weapons etc. and a Science museum which had playoffs related to Laws of Science, 3D movies and much more. At night, everyone put their best dancing shoes for the Jam Session, all set for merrymaking! On the nal day, Barazza sessions were held where all the delegates shared their experiences of the conference and their nal opinions of Utopia. The last and the most amazeballs part was the Treasure Hunt. The entire school was divided in seven continents and hints were hidden accordingly. Everyone was brainstorming on the clues, puing all their geography and general knowledge in! The Treasure Hunt was the most rip-roaring and exciting experience! The conference gave me memories that are going to stay with me forever. Round Square has never seemed to disappoint me, from serious discussions to fun time, the conference was packed with endless learning experience and excitement.
