Sixth graders Dane Schrekenhofer and

Gabriel Stobaugh show what their fellow

students recently donated to the Community

Action Program for Central Arkansas

(CAPCA) Christmas Food Drive. CAPCA

runs a food pantry for needy families in

Faulkner and Cleburne Counties.

Each student was asked to give one item.

Children in grades K-6 brought boxes of

brownie mix. Boxes of stuffing mix were

provided by students in the 7th-12th grades.

Representatives from CAPCA collected the

food items on December 12th.

Fifth grader Diego Navarro is seen above leading a procession that

includes Father Robert Cigainero. They’re walking from downtown

Conway to St. Joseph Church on December 14 in honor of the feast

day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

This marks a time when Hispanic people recall an apparition of the

Virgin Mary who appeared to a Mexican peasant named Juan Diego

in 1531. His vision led to the conversion of millions of people to

Catholicism.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patron Saint of Mexico, and she is

deeply woven into the lives of Hispanic people. They turn to her

often for help and guidance. A shrine to Our Lady is seen at right

being carried behind the procession, along with colorful dancers and

musicians. After Mass, a celebration followed in the Parish Hall.
