With spring just around the corner, Roppongi Hills is getting ready to celebrate its 5th anniversary on April 25, 2008, and isundertaking large-scale renovations as well as other work to improve its environs with the aim of injecting fresh vitality intoour community and reinforcing links with the people who live, work and gather in our town forged since its opening. January 26 (Saturday), 2008Remembrance Gathering for Mei Ushiyama On December 13, 2007, Mei Ushiyama, who waspresident of the Hollywood Group and a pioneer ofJapanese beauty salons, passed away at the ageof 96 (She also served as a special advisor to theRoppongi Hills Neighborhood Association). ManyAssociation members attended the specialremembrance gathering to bid a last farewell to

one of the pillars of our community.On behalf of all our membership, wewould like to express our heartfeltthanks to Mei-sensei for herinvaluable contributions.

March 1 (Saturday), 2008 "RiceStraw" Broom-Making EventUsing the straw collected during last year'srice harvest at Roppongi Hills Rooftop Garden,members gathered to make mini brooms. Itwas quite a struggle, but at the end, every facebeamed with a smile of satisfaction witheveryone completing a broom, each adistinctively original creation. This last RooftopGarden activity of 2007 was a fitting way to getready to make a clean start in the new year.

Hills Gardening Club Kicks Off a New Year!In the five years since the opening of Roppongi Hills, the cherry trees on the Sakurazaka havegrown with vigor and become a spring landmark. The Roppongi Hills Gardening Club, whichhas given tender loving care to the many plants native to Japan that thrive on Sakurazaka andhas created a unique community of urban gardeners, was recently merged with the ARKHILLS Gardening Club to form the new Hills Gardening Club. This popular club is kicking off2008 with a membership drive, but hurry as spots are limited.

Green Lawn Piazza Opening in Mohri Garden!With the scheduled opening of a new green lawn piazza in acorner of Mohri Garden sometime in June, the area near theArena will become an even more popular family destination. Makeplans this summer to bring the whole family and enjoy the "Oasisof the Hills" known as Mohri Garden.
