2009 Student Leadership In a previous Eagle Mr. Mark Merry announced the 2009 Student leadership line-up. Next year The Eagle will feature profiles on all Academic and House & Vice Captains. Below are profiles of three 2009 College leaders: Luke Cardamone College Captain Luke has always been an active, enthusiastic and versatile member of our Marcellin Community. Since his junior days he has aspired to follow in the footsteps of the many great student leaders that have passed through the College, and to embody what is known as our Marist Charism. He has constantly displayed a very strong and independent work ethic, and has been a keen participant in many different College opportunities, particularly involvement in the First XI Soccer, the Marist REMAR program, World Youth Day, and the current Italian Exchange Program, as well as various other ventures offered through the school. Outside of College life, Luke loves spending time with his family and friends and is an avid soccer player. He has represented Victoria a total of six times, and hopes to one day play at the highest level. He is a strong believer in leadership through service, and looks forward to leading and serving the College next year as Captain. He is particularly interested in enhancing the Marcellin environment, and assisting the development of the students to their full potential. Next year he will be studying Mathematical Methods, Chemistry, Physics, Italian and Literature, having already completed Religion and Society Units 3 and 4 in 2008, and is hoping to pursue the studies of Engineering or Osteopathy at University. Anthony Nicolini Vice Captain Anthony has a strong appreciation for all co-curricular programs at Marcellin College. He has been part of numerous activities, such as Remar, various College productions including Hound of the Baskerville, Man of La Mancha, Beauty and The Beast, Under Milkwood and West Side Story. Anthony has represented Marcellin in both soccer and volleyball since Year 7 and is an experienced SRC leader. Anthony has a love of music, the arts and spending time with friends and family which allows him to enjoy life.

Anthony, currently 16 years old, is studying Art, Visual Communication and Design, Italian, Religion and Society, English and Mathematics. Anthony hopes to study Architecture at university in his future years. William Delahunty Vice Captain William is a proud and enthusiastic student of Marcellin College. Throughout his time at the College he has been involved in many activities. His passion for football and cricket are an important part of his life and he has been involved in sporting teams during his time at the College. William has been an SRC representative for Redden House for three years. A keen supporter of the mighty Bombers, he is excited about them making the final 8 next year. On the weekends William enjoys spending time with his friends and family, as well as working a part time job. He is looking forward to next year and what it may bring. His aims for the year include developing his friendships further and continuing to further improve the College. He is currently studying Religion and Society, English, Mathematics, Indonesian, Business Management and Economics.

This month Marlhes House will be running a raffle to raise money and awareness for The Brosnan Centre. It is also about raising awareness for a fantastic organisation. What is the Brosnan Centre? The Brosnan Centre, named after former prison chaplain Father John Brosnan, helps young people make the transition back to the community after release from prisons or juvenile justice centers. The Brosnan Centre has been 'standing in solidarity with those in need' for over 25 years through providing practical, positive and personal services to young people who have spent time in justice systems. The first four months after release can be a difficult time for young people who may not have strong family support, stable accommodation or good prospects for employment. The Centre has a vision of restorative justice that brings healing and reconciliation to both victim and offender. Thank you to the families who donated some of the Prizes:

Year 8 Notebook Replacement Rumours are rife among students about the replacement of laptops for current Year 8 students. In this case, where there is smoke there is fire, BUT a word of caution. We received communication about the possibility of such replacements taking place, however the reality is that it is conditional and subject to warranty terms - full details will be supplied on our web site shortly. This relates only to ACER Travelmate 3290 models. Boys with this model will be offered an opportunity to present their notebook for inspection. If deemed necessary as per the conditions set out, the notebook will be replaced at no cost to the school or parent. I anticipate this will happen in coming weeks and as more information comes to hand I will inform you via the web site and /or The Eagle.

So began the audition of so many young men aspiring to take part in the 2009 Musical The Wiz , next year directed and produced by Our Lady of Mercy College under the banner M 2 Theatre Company ! We had the pleasure of four talented teachers from Our Lady’s come to Marcellin for a full day of auditions in the Lecture Theatre in singing and movement. The boys lined up. Some prepared with music in hand, others just giving it a go. Some saying (no matter how organized we are!) that they didn’t know and what can they do, they can’t sing anything! We constantly soothed and did our best to boost the confidence of each young man. The day ended with the staff of Our Lady’s extremely happy with the breadth of talent from our boys.
