70th lndependence Day Celebrated in RDSO

70th lndependence Day was celebrated with great zeal andenthusiasm in RDSO. Amid a large gathering of officers, staffand their families, Director General/RDSO hoisted theNational Flag in a colourful ceremony held at RDSO. ln hisaddress DG/RDSO greeted RDSO officers, staff and theirfamilies on this occasion and paid tributes to the martyrs whosacrificed their lives for the nation. On this occasion, recentResearch & Development activities of RDSO were highlightedalongwith the emphasis for making RDSO a world-classorganization. A cultural programme based on national themewas presented by the members of Bharat Scouts andGuides/RDSO District and children of Kendriya Vidyalaya,RDSO.

32 Governing Council Meeting held at RDSOnd

32nd meeting of Governing Council chaired by Chairman,Railway Board was held on 6 September 2016 at RDSO. In

this meeting Member Staff, Member Rolling Stock, MemberTraffic, Member Traction, Member Engineering, Financial

Commissioner were also present. Six presentations on theprojects under development were made by RDSO during themeeting.

Swacch Rail-Swacch Bharat / Swacchta Saptah 2016

RDSO organized 'Swacch Rail-Swacch Bharat /Swacchta – Saptah' on 24.09.2016. On this occasion childrenof Manak Nagar Railway Inter college/RDSO has participatedwith great enthusiasm and took out a round of RDSO campus“Prabhat Rally” to spread the message of Swacch Rail-SwacchBharat mission among the people of RDSO employees. ShriJ.S. Sondhi/ Addl. Director General of RDSO has also

interacted with school children and encouraged the students aswell as officers & staff to keep the RDSO campusenvironement green and pollution free by spreading themessage of Swacch Rail-Swacch Bharat mission. Addl.DG/RDSO has pledged RDSO officials for improving theenvironment of RDSO by planting more plants so that RDSOcampus be made green, clean and pollution free.

National Unity Day on Birth Anniversary of Late Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai PatelObserved & Vigilance Awareness Week Conducted at RDSO

The birth anniversary of Late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patelwas observed as “ Rastriya Ekta Diwas ( National Unity Day)”in RDSO on 31.10.2016. A 'Unity Run' of 3.5 km wasorganized at RDSO stadium at 7:30 hrs in which officers, staffand their family members, children and members of variousstaff associations participated.

On this occasion pledge of “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas'(National Unity Day) was administered by the DirectorGeneral, RDSO Shri P.K. Srivastava to the officers and staffworking in Anusandhan Bhawan. The pledge was also

administered at other directorates of RDSO by senior officer totheir staff and other officers. A 'Quiz Competition' for thechildren of various schools running in RDSO campus is alsoproposed.

RDSO observed 'Vigilance Awareness Week' from31.10.16 to 5.11.16. The week started with the pledgeadministered by Shri P.K. Srivastava, Director General ofRDSO on 31.10.16. Various programmes and seminars washeld during this week. A Vigilance Bulletin was also releasedby the Director General, RDSO in this week.

Upgradation of WAG9 to 9000 HP

Railway Board vide letter no. 2015/Elect(TRS)/ 440/4PtIdated 12.7.2016 had accorded in principle approval to upgradethe existing WAG-9 loco from 6000 HP to 9000 HP byRDSO/CLW in association with industry and advised RDSO toexamine the feasibility of up-gradation of WAG-9 locomotivefrom 6000 HP to 9000 HP and take suitable action accordingly.A meeting was held at RDSO on 4.8.2016 with traction motor

manufacturers to explore the feasibility of upgrading thetraction motor continuous power rating from existing 850 KWto about 1200 KW with bare minimum mechanical changes inbogie. All the traction motor manufacturers stated that it isfeasible to design the traction motor of about 1200 KW withinthe available envelop. All the firms were advised to submittheir initial design proposal to RDSO by 15.9.2016.

Apresentation on “Soil Stabilization Solutions” was given byMr. William Dean, Managing Director of M/s Deans InfratechPrivate Limited on 19.07.2016 in GE Directorate Lecture Hall.

Officials of GE Directorate attended this presentation. In thepresentation, the utilization of company's product “Deans InfraCrete”forsoilstabilizationwas discussed in detail.

A meeting about “Test Embankment' for Mumbai-Ahmadabad High Speed Rail Corridor Project” was held withJapanese delegation at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi on03.08.2016. Test embankment for HSR is under constructionnear Amod station, about 70 km from Vadodara.ED/Infra . (Civi l ) /Rai lway Board, ED/GE/RDSO,Dir/PPP(Civil)/Railway Board and Director/GE-I/RDSOparticipated in this meeting. In the meeting, it was decided thatRDSO team will visit Test Embankment site near Vadodara.Accordingly, ED/GE, Director/GE-I and other RDSO officialsvisited the site from 09.08.2016 to 10.08.2016. Detaileddiscussion was held with Japanese side representative at site.

Field Trials

Visit of RDSO Team to Newly Constructed Embankment of Ganges Bridge, Patna

� Oscillation and EBD trials of Kochi Metro coaches are inprogress.

� Riding, Safety and Stability assessment trial of BG TALGOAluminium Coaches fitted with integrated suspension onarticulated wheel set over Palwal-Mathura section of NorthCentral Railway and Bareilly-Moradabad-Saharanpursection of Northern Railway.

Rail cum Road Bridge across the River Ganges at Patna,East Central Railway, along with its North & South approacheswas constructed in year 2015. CRS had accorded sanction ofNorth & South approaches of Ganges at the speed of 50 kmph.CRS/Eastern Circle has directed CAO/Con/S/ECR to consultRDSO for suggesting remedial measures for strengthening ofembankment. Subsequently, CAO/Con/S/ECR, vide letter no.ECR/CAO/C/W/PGB/CRS, dated:09.08.2016, requestedRDSO for investigation and suggesting remedial measures forstrengthening the newly constructed embankment of North &South approaches of Ganges bridge. Accordingly, RDSO teamalong with Railway officials visited the North & Southapproaches of Ganga Bridge (Br. No.7) from 06.09.2016 to09.09.2016. During inspection of South & North approaches,erosion was seen on cess, slopes and berms of the embankment.Due to heavy rains, gullies of considerable depth have beenformed at many locations. 1.0 m thick blanket layer has beenprovided over subgrade soil, but in order to avoid erosion ofblanket layer, it has been covered with 100mm thick clayey soillayer for confinement of blanket layer. To assess degree of

compaction of constructed embankment, field densitymeasurement using core cutter method was done at manylocations. During visit, site observations were recorded andsoil & blanket material samples were collected for testing atGE Lab, RDSO. Based on the test results and examination ofother relevant technical parameters, East Central Railway willbe advised shortly.
