Course News We are happy to report that we have gotten a new Sand Pro to replace the old one that acquired significant engine damage after many years of use. This allows us to take much better care of the bunkers, hopefully mak-ing them more playable and also more aesthetically pleasing. Also, in many of the bunkers we added more sand to once again increase playability and aesthetics.
In this month we also were able to Verti-Cut all of the fairways, which will hopefully allow the Bermuda grass fairways to grow back much stronger and healthier. The picture below is what the fairways will begin to look like, as we have already done this in the fall.
Speaking of Bermuda grass, my assistant and I were very fortunate in being able to attend a Bermuda seminar held at the University of Maryland. In doing this we were able to learn ways to keep our Bermuda as strong and healthy as possible in this tricky Maryland climate.
We recently started a new project that involves reshaping the surrounds on the putting green, in order to remove the hump that is currently there. We are also planning to extend the curb so that is goes almost all the way around the green, leaving just a small space for us to get in and out if necessary.
In the coming weeks we plan to punch tees, so that like the fair-ways they have the opportunity for their roots to grow stronger and healthier. After doing this we will be able to finally re-sod the red tees on hole 7,
hopefully increasing the aesthetics of the entire hole.
I find it important just to reiterate how unpredictable and harsh the weather has been in these past months. From the cold in April, to the large amounts of rain in May, it has been quite difficult to adjust and adapt.
If you would like to learn more about the poor growing con-ditions please go to this link.

Pro Shop News
What a great month of June we had for member events. The Swan Point Women’s Golf As-
sociation Member Guest began the night before with their cocktail party. The pitching con-
test and putting contest (set up by our Superintendent, Tim Downey and his Assistant Evan
Meinhardt) had a lot of laughs and good times. The next day, the tournament was very
competitive and a joy to watch. Congratulations go to Teri Baker and Lynn King for a great
round of golf to win the SPWGA Member Guest and
to all the participants who made the event so
special.
The Men’s Member Guest began with a great turnout
for the practice round Thursday. Thank you to the
Raley’s for hosting the after party. Friday began with
some very heavy rains but the participant’s fought
through it and we saw some great scores come out
of it. Saturday, the sun returned in the afternoon just in time for the horse race; and what a
finally it was. Joe Dodson and Mark Gandee gave our eventual champions all they could
handle in a great back and forth match. After great putts made by both sides to keep the
match going, Robbie Anderson hit a beauty of a shot on
Hole #3 to about 8 feet and John Sprague birdied the put
to clinch their back to back Member Guest Championship.
What an accomplishment. Congratulation to our champs,
and to all the participants that made this event possible.
We look forward to our upcoming member events in the
month of July. We hope to see you on the links soon!
