The Day weve all been waiting for

My name is Ntombizikhona Valela (people call manythings for short, really) and Im in the VOG com-mittee for 2011 as Public Relations Officer (PRO).Im studying BA majoring in Law and English andam currently in second year. Music is somethingthat has been part of my life for as long as I canremember so when the opportunity came for me tosign up for this society , I knew that I couldnt letit pass me by. I joined the VOG choir in 2009 andit has been more than a pleasure and a privilege tointeract and fellowship with Gods children outside a

church building in a world where such opportunitiesare few and far between.Music is my first love and it is such a joy to experi-ence it with people who are likeminded. Aside fromsinging in the choir and listening to music, I enjoy

I greet you all in the wonderful name of ourLord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The day that we all have been waiting for is finallyhere. I am so excited, I actually get goosebumpseverytime I think about what God is about to do. Iwish you were all here to witness the hype on

campus, the student body seems to be more ex-cited than we are. I remember when we did theRedeemed live recording in 2008, we had about300 people in our concert..this year we are expect-

ing over 900 people, and I just cant wait to findout what it is that God has planned for the 9th ofOctober. This years concert theme is based on ascripture in John 13:34-35 which says that 34So now Iam giving you a new commandment: Love each other.Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35Your love for one another will prove to the world thatyou are my disciples. The kind of fellowship that ex-ists in VOG, I cant even begin to describe. We havereached that point where Andisas family problemsautomatically become Mirandas or Musos prob-

lems. That is how the concept Doing Life Togethercame about. We want to share the love we have forpeople and one another with the greater Graham-stown community. We are making a statement thatwe are young, we are not perfect, but His grace issufficient for us. We dont know the future, but weknow God. What keeps us going and together is theGod we know, and that is what we want to take tothe people of Grahamstown.

This year has been a year of lessons in all aspectsof my life. I have learnt to appreciate the little timeI spend with, well My VOG family because it seemswe grow as we spend time together and rehearsals

    What VOG 2010 was about

Having worked with people and for people for acomplete year now, it is immensly heart-warmingto be able to see change. Change in comm.

members and the society as a whole. VoG has, wothout a doubt, become one big family duringthe course of this year, especially in the past fewmonths. It is a beautiful thing to see us giving eachother shoulders to lean on, preaching to each other, spreading the Word, crying and laughing, prayingtogether. As was so fi ttingly put by our PRO, "Do-ing life together". It goes without sayi ng that weare more than grateful to have worked with anHoD that is so gifted yet humble and has taught us,among other things, patience and persevearance.Mysincere wish is that the up-coming concert is every-thing that he invisioned (if not more). This concertis like a volcanoe wai ting to erupt. We are almostbursting with joy and excitement. However, beyondexcitement, there is an air of the love that is Godand we have a wondeful opportunity to share that

seem to go beyond just your normal choir rehearsalbut into a praise and worship session. I grow fromknowing more about the choir members and whothey are in God realising that one persons storyis another reason to find strength in Christ becausetruly we find strength in knowing that God i s withus in our victory and in trials, joy and tribulations, strength and weaknesses, achievements and faults. In spite of what we are God still loves us and de-lights when we are in his presence. This year VOG has grown to greener pastures asthe committee has decided to go all out to revivethe departments that have not been active for thelast 2 years and in doing so, by Gods unmeritedfavour we will see the society Express worship indifferent forms where we sing it out , speak and actit out and dance for our Master He is after all theKing of Kings. We hope that you can partner withus in the future as we str ive to keep the vision ofministry through VOG alive, God has given us salva-tion by grace for free, let us honour Him by makingVOG work our responsibility for we are doing lifetogether in doing so.Youre all appreciated.God bless

    Love, fellowship and joy

with those who believe and those who don't alike.Simply put, it is going to encompass His grandeur.Indisputably an event not to be missed!

Mathaabe Thabane, VOG 2010 Secretary. SecondYear Bcomm, from Lesotho.

The year for the 2010 committee has come to anend; I have thoroughly enjoyed conducting themelody of the Rand choir. My year as treasurer hastruly been an amazing and yet challenging year. Ifound myself being pulled in all directions, forcedto get out of my comfort zone, but the committeethat I have had the privilege of working with helpedme through. I can truly say that I have no regrets,as I have grown, and Ive learnt a lot; about people, finances and the SRC. I am motivated in my fieldof study by the experiences that I have had as VOGtreasurer. This year the society incurred quiet a

number of expenses with regards to opening func-tion, the AGM, community engagement workshops, society chill sessions and society memorabilia. Asthe outgoing treasurer I am proud of the goalsachieved, and I hope to pass on to the treasurer of2011 both the knowledge and the dream I have forthe VOG finances. I have truly enjoyed serving inthis field, and I delight in seeing its financial stabil-ity strengthened. Oh yes about the VOG commit-tee 2011 I am the new HOD of music, and yah bigfootsteps to follow. I am humbled and very excitedto become part of the extinguished long line of the

I sing a song of praise to Thee

Miranda Ncwane, VOG 2010 Treasurer and 2011 Choir Di-rector. Second Year Bcomm, from Durban.

I joined V.O.G in my first year and I have learnt agreat deal about what it means to be a worshipperand the importance of having an immaculate char-acter as a person serving in this kind of ministry. Ihave made many lifetime friendships and have beenchanged by what each of these friendships havesown into my life. I have felt like I have a family inV.O.G and whenever life seems to be tough, I knowexactly where to go. Saturday afternoons havebecome the highlight of my weeks because outside

HOD of music, I have dream for the music depart-ment and I realise that I have to let go and let Godin a lot areas. I have a vision that needs a lot workto be fulfilled and thus Ive already star ted dreamingand writing songs and networking. Im ready andequip to move into a greater level of excellence.1, 2, 3... Let the song begin.

from being a student working hard, I know there isa place that I can find rest and that is V.O.Gpractice.With being in V.O.G I have also learnt the costs thatcome with the growth of a passion and a vision. Ihave learnt that singing is not only about being ableto, but it also involves being willing to work hard

and make many important sacrifices to grow inwhat I want to become.I have recently been bestowed the honour of beingpart of the V.O.G Committee for 2011 as Alumni Liai-son. When looking carefully at this portfolio I haverealised that it is not only about communicatingwith past V.O.G members and maintaining a lifetimebond with them but it also involves a reflection ofwhere the ministry is going. It has become evidentto me that if past members see no growth in thesociety and movement in its influence, there are alot of adjustments that must be made. This honourmeans a lot to me and with the help of the HolySpirit I know that we will not only move forward asa society but grow as a body and bring growth toour community.

Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

With the concert happening on the 9th of Octo-ber, prayer is fundamental in ensuring that Godspurpose should be accomplished on the night andsouls will be saved. Indeed praying without ceasingis imperative; so as to ensure unity within VOG andalso to make sure that everyone understands thepurpose of worship.

Mzukisi Khuse, VOG 2010 Prayer and Intercession leader.Second Year BSc, from King Williams Town

God helped us as VOG on the night of our perform-ance, at the Christian at Rhodes gospel concert.People were saved on the night and many soulsrededicated their lives back to God. We are justhonoured to have played a role on the night and wethank God for bestowing such a responsibility uponus. We also pray that people may see the concert asthe continuation of the mission at Rhodes, becausepeople will get to know God at the concert and willalso get saved. In preparation for the concert, there will be work-shops and discussions about any issues which the

members feel should be addressed before the con-cert, starting from the 4th to the 7th of October. There will be various speakers for this week, whichwill be addressing various topics and also providingadvice on various issues. We believe that God willassist us during the week and will enable us to growto new heights, because Gods work needs to beperformed perfectly. We are expecting much fromGod with regards to the concert, we are waiting forthe outpour of the Spirit of God on the night and formiracles to happen.

When God created the word he had music as hisbackground, and had poetry and drama as hischeerleading team.

What An Exciting time, transition time and finalis-ing what has been started. We are nearing the 9thof October, the final Concert for 2010. The Concertis themed: They shall know, we love people, welove one another Doing Life together, it s allabout acknowledging the awesome relationshipsthat are established in VoG, the lifelong friendshipsand brotherhood and is based on John 13:34. Mymost significant relationships are with VoG Mem-bers past and present, and that is the somethingthat will stick with me forever. The attempt hereis to capture that in a celebration of Doing Lifetogether in song and dance. The next thing that brings me great joy is the op-portunity to introduce to the alumni the VoG ChoirDirector for 2011, Miranda Ncwane from Durban. Aperson who I have no doubt will go further than Icould possibly go with the choir. She is an awesomemusician who really challenges me in all aspects, committed and always willing to serve. Look out forher article. The rehearsal camp was awesome, the band (One-ness Mashala on Piano, Lonwabo Diba on keys, Clift-on Williams on Bass, Nhlangothi Mntambo on Drumsand TSpoon on Guitar) came in and really workedhard to interpret the ideas, and the guys are re-ally excited and willing to go the extra mile as weapproach October. We ended the Rehearsal campwith us ministering at Community Church in Bhishowhich is under the leadership of Apostle MangalisoMashobane, and the response was awesome and weare pumped up after that response. I can tell younow, the choir is ready.Tickets for the show are out, and we are expecting1000 people at the show, which is unprecedented

in my time in VoG. Please make your way to Gra-hamstown for this monumental day and let us know

because we want to honour the Alumni on that day,and we actually want to sing one of the FavouriteOldies with the Alumni on stage. We are expecting guests like Mercy Ndlovu fromJoyous Celebration who we are featuring in one ofour songs, and Revive, a hot group from Mpuma-langa, Nels-pruit, underthe director-ship of PaulNkosi. Revivewill be sing-ing duringour breaks, and we arealso singinga song withthem at theend, with thekids from thecommunity, that is veryexciting forme.VoG Banner,we are stall-ing in thisventure, theresponses from Alumni have been quite slow andwe are not really keen on printing a Banner withonly current member photos on it, so we appealagain that the Alumni submit their photos andwhatever donation, minimum R250, to grab theirspot on the banner. We are still in great need offunding to really do this properly and truly repre-

sent you well, please come on board.Anyways, I hope to see you a ll on Saturday.

bring people (who love to use drama and writingpoetry as a means of worshipping God) to a placewhere we learn from each other and are able tominister to each other through our God-given gifts.By doing this we therefore are able to allow our-selves to be wholly used by God to reach out tothose outside the ministry through our theatricaltalents. My dream is to see this department being

a very effective group in Grahamstown and beyondsee it working side by side with Rhodes depart-ments such as the Drama and the English Depart-ments. This is the start of an incredible challengingbut awesome journey that shall be taken, but onethat will bring joy to many above all Glorify themaker and creator.Calvary blessings to you all!!

    I was first intro-duced to V.O.G in2009 by a friendand a sister by thename ofOmphemetseNdhlovu. I was

very shy and veryquiet and I didnot believe that Icould sing all mylife especially withpowerful spir-itual people of Godlike the peoplein V.O.G. Every

time after practiceI would go backhome and reflect

    My Experience in VOG

Lebogang Koloane, VOG 2011 Headof Dance. Second Year BA LLB,from Johannesburg.

on the practice and the message of God which wasreceived on that day, as a result I feared God moreand more. Eventually going to practice for was notabout singing anymore but grew into a space whichcontributed on name finding God, believing andacknowledging what I have as an individual on earth.I grew more to understand what 1 Corinthians 12:4

meant when it said that now there are varieties ofgifts, but the same Spirit. Because from 2009 to2010 something in me moved or changed every timewe were practicing or performing. A place whereI could just let go and became me and worked onthe gift that God gave me to spread his word. Andas much as I was singing in V.O.G deep inside me Iknew that dance or movement was were my hearthas always fully been and where my body, mindand soul gave in as well. Hence being part of V.O.Gdance department was not by choice but by faith, love and most of all by Prayer.
