Vodafone operating from Sky Parks Business Centre

Vodafone’s new head office at the Sky Parks Business Centre embraces a brand new corporate setting that

enhances productivity, teamwork and improves organisational communication.

Vodafone has moved to its new head office at the Sky Parks Business Centre. The transition has been completed in three phases.

The group of Vodafone employees who were the first to move included Vodafone’s CEO Balesh Sharma.

Over the last couple of years, Vodafone has invested a lot in instilling a culture of change so that its employees would be able to leave their previous offices in Birkirkara one day and work from Sky Parks Business Centre the next, particularly due to the fact that Vodafone’s new head offices introduce a number of innovative concepts, including a paperless office philosophy and a hot-desking policy.

“Over the last couple of years multiple projects and processes were undertaken to make the move a smooth one,” said Antoinette Camilleri, property manger at Vodafone Malta.

“We have been gearing up for the move for the past two years, scanning, recycling paper in different departments and archiving important legal documents that have to be retained. We have constantly promoted a culture of change which has produced positive results. Team members are embracing this change and it’s really great to see that our people are happy with the smooth transition to the new offices and with their new working environment.”

The Sky Parks Business Centre offers Vodafone employees an open-plan environment where they are working in a brand new corporate setting that enhances productivity, teamwork and improves organisational communication.

The furniture was selected with great care and custom-made furniture was specifically designed for some areas, keeping in mind factors such as space, comfort, durability, maintenance required and if it is easy to clean or not.

Customers were also kept in mind with different meeting room designs including areas for lounge and business meetings and for casual meetings, state-of-the-art multimedia facilities and handset displays.

The A+ equipment, with the choice of lighting and light sensors incorporated to reduce utilities usage also played an important role in ensuring efficiency and sustainability. Technology was also a big issue in the design and Vodafone made sure that they have a wireless environment with no desk phones and Wi-Fi services available in the whole office, including the terrace.

Vodafone Spain could cut up to a quarter of staff

Vodafone may slash its workforce in Spain by up to a quarter as it fights an escalating price war in a shrinking market while the country goes through its worst economic crisis in decades.

The British company wrote down the value of its businesses in Spain and Italy by £5.9 billion (€7 billion) in November. The firm said service revenue in Spain declined 11 per cent year-on-year in the six months to end-September, due to macroeconomic weakness and high unemployment.

Vodafone did not give details of how many workers could be dismissed. It will begin negotiations with unions today.

A union source said Vodafone could cut around a quarter of Vodafone’s 4,300-strong workforce, although the company has not given any official figures to unions.

“We managed to avoid lay-offs last year by agreeing to work suspensions and salary cuts, but now everything is pointing to them wanting to fire close to 1,000 workers,” the union source said.

A price war has heated up between mobile operators in Spain in recent months, as cash-strapped customers ditch their mobile phones in record numbers and some switch to cheaper virtual operators.

Vodafone Malta has renewed its annual support to L-Istrina with a donation of €37,500. The

donation was presented to President George Abela during this year’s edition of L-Istrina, held

on December 26 at the Verdala Palace Rabat.

Vodafone topped up their usual donation of €30,000 by adding donations raised during the

‘Raise Your Game’ event held at PaqPaqli ghall-Istrina earlier in December, including a sum

which usually goes for buying gifts for corporate clients, employees and journalists.

“Apart from the financial aspect, our donation serves as an important contribution towards

raising further constant awareness about the Malta Community Chest Fund and its role in

assisting persons in difficulty,” said Vodafone Malta spokesman Martin Gregory. 25

Vodafone employees and relatives also volunteered to assist during the actual L-Istrina

marathon TV programme by answering phone calls.

Vodafone employees donate books for Book Box Article By: di-ve.com news

Vodafone Malta decided to participate actively in a very innovative and interesting initiative

that a group of Maltese University students are working on called ‘Book Box’. ‘Book Box’ is

a new project aimed at promoting reading in different localities around Malta and Gozo by

bringing back the traditional red telephone boxes and transforming them into a small swap

library where everyone is welcome to exchange books.

“We believe that reading is of utmost importance, not only for current generations but also for

future ones,” said Corporate Affairs Senior Executive at Vodafone Malta Miriam Dalli. “We

are well aware that in today’s world, people are less keen on reading a good book and we

think that this is a pity. Reading a good book can literally transport you into a creative world

of your own. As a company we believe that it is also our responsibility to promote reading in

our community, so we instantly agreed to help out Book Box.”

Vodafone Malta decided to help kick start this project with a mutual consensus that the wealth

which lies on the shelves is to be taken care of as if it were one’s own, by providing the first

books for this public library. After calling all employees to donate any books to this project,

Vodafone employees managed to pool in five whole boxes of books, including famous novels,

books in Maltese, educational books and fun books.

“Thanks to the ‘swap’ system, the service provided through Book Box is going to be

absolutely free,” said President of 'Book Box' Roberta Genovese. “Giving and taking will

ensure that the Book Boxes around Malta will always be filled with a variety of books and

donations will always help us keep all book boxes stocked with the latest titles on the shelves.

We are also hoping that through this innovative project people who do not normally read

much will be exposed to different genres, influencing their family members and friends to do

the same. At the moment our main aim is to promote the idea as much and as far as possible.”

Vodafone apologises for Blackberry fault

Mobile operator Vodafone apologised today after some customers using Research in Motion's Blackberry handset lost emails in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Vodafone, the world's second-largest mobile operator with 407 million customers globally, said the problem was due to a router error and said services were now being restored.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and we will provide updates as necessary," the group said in a statement.

RIM, which has been hit before by high-profile outages in the last two years that affected millions of customers, said it was supporting Vodafone's efforts to resolve the issue.

Users on Twitter also reported problems with accessing emails on Blackberries but it did not appear to be a widespread outage.

"Vodafone can confirm that some BlackBerry customers experienced issues with their data services this morning in Europe, Middle East and Africa," it said.

"Services are in the process of being restored and we continue to monitor the situation closely."

Go’s after- sales service

As a Go customer I am sorely disappointed that their promise to provide after-sales service within 10 days is not kept. To add insult to injury, their representatives call and advise that they are coming and still never show up.

I have been without a telephone service since the beginning of last month. I own a retail outlet in Valletta and, as of January 7, the landline remains dead. Can someone at Go take action?

Jacqueline Cassar with children at St Ġorġ Preca home for orphans in Kenya.

Go’s Employee Sponsorship Scheme, which was launched to instil in employees a passion that goes beyond their work, is celebrating its first anniversary. The scheme focuses on a range of experiences that highlight initiatives concentrating on charity, arts, sports and the environment.

HR chief at Go Michelle Bonnici said the company was acutely aware of creating a culture of change and responsibility, starting with its people. “Getting our employees motivated and excited about being involved in corporate social responsibility initiatives is a great way to begin.”

Employees Paula Azzopardi, Jacqueline Cassar and Bjorn Vassallo have utilised sponsorship funds to participate in humanitarian initiatives over the past year.

Ms Azzopardi from Go’s quality audit department was sponsored for missionary work in Mozambique. The trip took over two years of careful planning that included organising fundraising activities and even learning Portuguese to communicate with the local community.

Ms Cassar, an employee from the company’s HR department, joined a group of 13 FACES volunteers to work on a humanitarian project in Kenya. FACES is a voluntary organisation set up with the mission of improving the quality of life of under-privileged people in developing countries.

Mr Vassallo, team leader from the IT helpdesk, headed a team on the 800-kilometre trek of El Camino de Santiago in Spain to raise funds for the Inspire foundation. He walked 110km, starting from Sarria in Spain.”

Applications will soon open for employees interested in Go’s Employee Sponsorship Scheme for this year.

HSBC Malta Foundation assists children in foster care

e children

Thursday, 10 January 2013, 09:50

A cheerful festive atmosphere and the sound of children singing and playing to Christmas carols filled the Pembroke Church Hall at the Annual Christmas Party sponsored by the HSBC Malta Foundation and organised by the National Foster Carers Association (NFCAM) together with the Foster Care Unit at Aġenzija Appoġġ.

The Foster Care Unit assigns children to families who can provide a safe and nurturing environment and help fulfil the children’s needs before they can be reunited with their natural families. Each foster family is assigned a social worker that liaises with them and helps them with any needs that may arise.

Since 2002, HSBC Malta Foundation has been helping the Foster Care Unit. HSBC also sponsors a number of books that are donated to the children as Christmas presents.

HSBC Bank Malta manager Sustainability Doriette Camilleri said: “HSBC Malta Foundation is committed to bringing about lasting benefits for persons with different needs. In the case of disadvantaged children we endeavour to assist in providing them with a better quality of life, through education, care and entertainment. Our message to these children is that they are valued and we care to give them those happy moments they deserve.”
