Vodafone brings Lewis Hamilton to Malta
Balesh Sharma launches the Raise Your Game initiative last week.
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will be in Malta on December 9 as part of Vodafone’s latest initiative themed Raise Your Game.
During a day of events, Hamilton is expected to attend the Paqpaqli għall-Istrina charity car show, where he will
be driving laps with his MP4-26.
A lucky fan will be able to join Hamilton on a lap in a Mercedes sportscar.
Vodafone Malta chief executive Balesh Sharma explained the Raise Your Game philosophy was ingrained in the

“Vodafone has come up with an initiative that goes beyond the commercial parameters. This is a once-in-a-
lifetime opportunity. It is an initiative that endorses the attitude that we can all do better. This outlook to life has
never been the exclusive characteristic of racing car drivers or Olympic athletes or world famous musicians. It’s in
all of us,” Mr Sharma said.
Vodafone has teamed up with Mercedes, PBS and Allied Group to hold events people can enjoy and benefit from.
Auto Sales director Bernardette Bonnici Kind said having the Vodafone Mercedes McLaren F1 car on display at
the Mercedes-Benz showroom will be a treat to the numerous F1 followers and owners of Mercedes-Benz cars.

iPhone 5 arrives in Malta
Apple’s iPhone 5 started reaching Vodafone customers in Malta yesterday with demand exceeding the initial
supply.
In fact, some customers will have to wait until Friday for their phone to be delivered to an outlet and many more
will have to wait for some weeks.
Vodafone said pre-orders for the phone “exceeded expectations” and interest registered was double that seen for
earlier versions. “This is the first time Vodafone has launched pre-orders a week prior to the official launch date
and it proved to be an overwhelming success,” marketing head Sandro Pisani said.
Vodafone, the only Apple authorised reseller, is taking pre-orders in all its retail stores and notifying customers
when it is available for pick up.
The iPhone 5 comes in black, white, 16G, 32G and 64G variants. Vodafone refused to divulge how many phones
had been pre-ordered, citing its agreement with Apple.

The exclusive bronze Samsung Galaxy S III now available at Vodafone
Saturday, 03 Nov 2012, 14:46
Vodafone are the only operator on the island to offer the high end Samsung Galaxy S III in
bronze exclusive to Vodafone. The Galaxy S III has a great design, an amazing display and
offers superb performance which makes it one of the best phones for 2012. It is also a favourite
in Malta commanding a large share of the high end mobile phone sales.
With 4.8 inches of high definition display, giving the user true and perfect colour and an ultrafast
response time, the Samsung Galaxy S III sees additional software features and a sleek design
from the previous Samsung Galaxy S II. The minimal organic design of the Galaxy S III is
reflected in its smooth and gentle curves, while its human-centric nature provides a comfortable
experience with enhanced usability. The S III has an 8 megapixel camera similair to that of the
S II and can take photos and record videos in Full HD. The battery gives 790 hours on stand by
and 11 hours talk time and Smart Stay, an ability to track the user's eyes and turn off whenever
the person is not looking at it, will help to minimise battery consumption. The Samsung Galaxy
S III can be wirelessly charged using a special charging pad that utilises magnetic resonance to
produce a magnetic field through which electricity could be transferred.
The S III boasts a quad-core processor and employs an intelligent personal assistant – S Voice,
enabling the user to verbally control different functions such as playing a song, setting the alarm,
or activating driving mode. The Samsung Galaxy S III also includes certain smart features which
facilitate improved human interactivity including Direct Call, the handset's ability to recognise
when a user wants to talk to somebody instead of messaging them, if they bring the phone to
their head; Social Tag, a function that identifies and tags people in a photo and shares photos
with them; and Pop Up Play, which allows a video and other applications to occupy the screen at
the same time.
“Vodafone are always trying to get the most innovative gadgets on the island,” said Lara Selvagi,
Terminals Executive at Vodafone Malta. “The popularity of this state-of-the-art phone boosts the
confidence for Vodafone’s investment in introducing a new and exclusive colour to the Samsung
Galaxy S III range in Malta.”

GO normalised operating profit down to €10.5 million
Group recuperates during third quarter of 2012, with performance levels improving
when compared to the same quarter last year.
GO results for the first six months up to 30 June 2012 showed a reduction in normalised operating
profit to €10.5 million from €12.4 million in the last six months of 2011.
This gap has been reduced in the third quarter of 2012 as the Group's performance levels improved
when compared to the same quarter last year.
Profitability for the first nine months of the year remains lower than last year. The Group continues to
generate healthy cash levels from its ongoing operations and holds sufficient cash resources and
retains adequate banking facilities to support its investment programme and honour its commitments.
The Company continues to perform well in a highly competitive market retaining an overall client base
of around 500,000 across its product range. The Company's investments in television and broadband
infrastructure has helped both in retaining traditional clients in the fixed-voice telephony services
market as well as attracting clients specifically to our television and broadband services.
The Group is completing its new mobile telephony infrastructure whereby the Company will provide
the fastest and most reliable network for mobile voice and data services in the market.
The Company is therefore optimistic that it will benefit from such investments in mobile telephony
services in the coming years through increases in market share and revenues.
Whilst sources of revenue remain strong across all product lines, the revenue trends have decreased as
the competitive market is leading to lower ARPU.
Regulation has also impacted on revenues, particularly in the mobile telephony sector, as lower rates
were introduced for terminating calls originating on other networks.
CLIENT: GO DIRECT MEDIUM: MALTATODAY.COM DATE: 2 NOVEMBER 2012
"In spite of these challenges, the Company is optimistic that in the coming months, revenues will
continue to increase in the television sector and the investment made in mobile telephony services,
particularly with regards to mobile data, will produce growth in that sector," the interim directors'
statement said.
"As more clients subscribe to bundled products, the Company remains positive about its ability to
continue to secure solid revenue performance and maintain its on-going commitment to its investment
programme to ensure that the Group's clients enjoy the best possible service."
The Group said that its investment in mobile telephony services and upcoming investments in FTTH
are part of its programme to deliver a modern and innovative service to our clients.
The Company's focus on cost optimization remains a key objective. The Company has benefitted from
reduced payroll costs and savings in a number of discretionary expense categories. The changeover
from legacy mobile infrastructure means that this year the Group will experience a one-time
significant increased operational cost which will impact on the Company's performance for the year.
According to the statement, Forthnet is expected to announce its third quarter 2012 results by the end
of November. In the meantime, Forthnet is progressing with its plans to increase its capital as it aims
to raise €30 million. The Company is awaiting the release of the Forthnet prospectus in this regard at
which stage the Company will be able to determine whether or not to participate in the rights issue
process.
"The Group's ability to maintain solid revenue performance and to control costs continues to deliver
significant cash flows from on-going operations. Operational performance and the ability to maintain
its investment programme improving the service and trust to clients are an encouraging indicator of
the Group's ability to maintain a healthy level of operational in a challenging market environment."

Melita is ordered to issue refunds
Melita has been directed by the Malta Communications Authority to comply with the law on early termination
charges and refund any unjustified charges.
These charges were being imposed on subscribers of electronic communications services, including mobile and
fixed telephony, internet and television distribution services, who decided to terminate their service after the initial
contract period expired.
The authority said subscribers were entitled to a contract when subscribing to these services.
This could specify a period which, by law, could not exceed 24 months.
The service provider could charge early termination charges when subscribers wanted to terminate a service
during this initial period.
These charges could not, however, be applied when terminating a service under a renewed contract once the
initial contract period expired.
The authority said there were a number of instances where early termination charges were being applied by
Melita to subscribers who ended their services after a renewal of contract had taken place and after the initial 24
month-period had elapsed.
By means of this directive, Melita “is being required to desist, with immediate effect, from such practices”, the
authority said.
Moreover, Melita “is also being required to refund” any early termination charges, upon justified requests by
subscribers, to those who terminated their service after a renewal of contract had taken place and after which the
initial 24-month period had elapsed.
These subscribers were encouraged to contact Melita directly, the MCA said.

HSBC Malta Foundation supports children dealing with diabetes
Monday, 05 November 2012, 12:45
Around 40 children with diabetes discovered new ways of dealing with their condition while also enjoying various fun activities at this year’s camp, organised annually by the Maltese Diabetes Association with long-term support from the HSBC Malta Foundation.
The 3-day camp, held at Porziuncola House in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, offered the children a fun constructive social environment in which to share and discuss their experiences with peers who confront the same health concerns.
The activites included abseiling with the assistance of professional instructors and opportunities for the children to bake their own bread and learn novel tips for a healthier diet. Other highlights included educational talks and group discussions led by officials from the Department of Health’s Diabetes and Endocrine Centre.
“The camp more than meets our expections in so far as the participants meet in a relaxed and informal atmosphere and learn, hands on, how to handle their diabetes and how to overcome their daily challenges. Most importantly, the children realise that, given certain conditions and preperation, they are able to take on any kind of
