    Vocabulary Builder 1

Now I hate lists! But here comes a huge, massive one... Sorry about that. Its based on theresearch at the University of Canterbury that produced the Academic Word List. Studies ofthe frequencies of words in academic texts of all disciplines, from Business to Engineering, from Maths to Economics, produced a total of 570 words in 11 sublists. This is sublist 1:

    the most frequent non-grammatical words.

! analysis approach area assessment assume authority available benefit concept! consistent constitutional context contract create data definition derived distribution! economic environment established estimate evidence export factors financial! formula function identified income indicate individual interpretation involved issues! labour legal legislation major method occur percent period policy principle! procedure process required research response role section sector significant similar! source specific structure theory variableIve used sublist 1 to produce an 800-word Vocab Builder based on (1) headwords, (2)

related or familial words, (3) a link to a Learners Dictionary for definition andpronunciation, and (4) a set of related synonyms. It can help you in writing. Use it toproduce key words and synonym sets. If you go to Getting It Down! Part One - Information, you can use the Vocab Builder as a key to producing some simple, informative texts, forexample three approaches, three areas, benefits, concepts etc ad infinitum.
