Data In How to move your data and templates to vCloud Hybrid Service
11 11
Data in without vCC via OVF file
Power off the vApp before exporting
The export process is different for vSphere and vCloud Director
based clouds
For vCloud Director based clouds, the vApp will have to be moved
to the catalog before exporting it as an OVF file
For vSphere, the vApp can be exported directly as an OVF file
The OVF files will then have to be copied to a temporary location
To deploy the OVF file to vCHS, import it into vCHS catalog first
and then deploy to your Org vDC
After the deployment process, change the network configurations
and check run time lease and storage

Data in with vCC:
Wizard based copy ( vApp, VM, Template)
Content Sync (Template)
Offline Data Transfer ( vApp, VM, Template)
Data Center Extension/Stretch deploy (VM)
13 13
Data in: Wizard-based Copy (vCC Core)
Copy from vSphere
Source object retains its form in a copy operation from vSphere to vSphere
Objects are converted to vApp Templates in a copy operation to vCloud Hybrid
service or to any vCloud Director based cloud

Data in: Wizard-based Copy (vCC Core)
Use wizard based copy for 1-off or small migrations
vCloud Connector executes a maximum of 10 concurrent tasks per
cloud per vCloud Connector node
Wizard based copies are done with powered off VM/vApp. Once the
VM/vApp/template has been copied over to the target, they can be
deployed or powered on
Wizard based copy does not preserve any network configuration of the
VM/vApp/template
Optimal performance is attained for for VMs/vApps/templates of
<100GB in a vCD 5.1 cloud and <500GB in any other cloud
16 16
Data in: Content Sync (vCC Advanced)
Maintain a master library of templates and synchronize templates
across across multiple clouds
Maximum number of subscribers per published vSphere
folder/vCD Catalog = 10
Average size of VM templates in a published vSphere folder/vCD
catalog is 200GB
17 17
Data in: Offline Data Transfer (vCC Advanced)
Export your data to an external storage device provided by a
vCloud Hybrid Service operator and ship it back to the operator
vCloud Connector encrypts the data before writing it to the device,
ensuring a secure transfer
The operator imports the data into the vCloud Hybrid Service
using vCC UI
Capacity is capped at 12 TB per request
Private vCloud Hybrid Service
Physical, Bulk Migration of VMs from one Cloud to another
18 18
Data in: Stretch Deploy (vCC Advanced)
Verifies that the network of the VM or vApp on the private datacenter
can be extended
Creates a new routed vApp network in your Org vDC in the public vCloud
Creates NAT and firewall rules in the private and public networks, if required
Creates an SSL VPN tunnel from the vCNS Edge of the private network to the
vCNS Edge of the new routed vApp network in the public cloud
Copies and deploys the VM or vApp into the new routed vApp in the
public vCloud

Data Out: Sample Trigger Events
Some use cases when you might consider moving workloads on-premise
or to other vCloud providers
Customer A has a test/dev workload on vCloud Hybrid Service.
Compliance requirement makes the production version of the test/dev
workload a good candidate for on-prem deployment
Customer B is geographically expanding wants to move a Web server
copy to a geo where vCloud Hybrid Service does not operate
Customer C wants access to vCenter to run certain performance
monitoring tasks
28 28
Data Out with vCC
Wizard based copy ( vApp, VM, Template)
Content Sync (Template)
Reverse Data Center Extension (VM)
29 29
Data Out: Reverse DCE
You can bring back stretched VMs or vApps from the public
cloud to your private datacenter with a script that is provided
with vCloud Connector
With this script, you can choose to bring back the entire stretched
vApp or one VM at a time
30 30
vCC – Known Limitations
vCC does not support vMotion. All copies are done with powered
off VMs/vApps.
vCC doesn't natively support non-VMware based environments like
Hyper V, AWS, Rackspace, Google App Engine etc. Windows Hyper –
V can be converted.
vCC offline data transfer will not work from vCloud Hybrid Service
to private vSphere / vCD.
Wizard-based copy does NOT retain the network configuration
inside a vApp.

vCloud Hybrid Service Data Protection
Data Protection delivers policy-driven data backup and recovery
services for workloads on vCloud Hybrid Service
Content and data contained within a VM are backed up
at regular intervals
Customers can selectively register any VM (and its associated vApp
by default) for backup via the vCHS management console
Restores can be requested by customers on as-needed basis.
vCloud Hybrid Service customers can opt in Data Protection in
myVMware at any point of time
Synthetic-full backup and encrypted images
24-hour RPO and 30 day retention
Introductory free service tier till Q1 2014

Sample Case Study
Harley-Davidson Dealer Systems
(HDDS) joined the vCloud Hybrid
Service Early Access Program in
June, 2013
Use Case - move Data Analytics
package to vCloud Hybrid Service
HDDS supports 500+ retail stores
and they want to be able to deploy
this solution so that it is accessible
to all
The Data Analytics package is a
vApp with 5 VMs
HDDS used offline data transfer
to migrate the vAPP to vCloud
Hybrid Service
Kelser Corp joined the vCloud
Hybrid Service Early Access
Program in June, 2013
Use Case - test environment to try
and replicate scenarios that their
end customers may have
Kelser has a Windows 2012
environment with Exchange 2013
Kelser has successfully
configured and migrated workloads
using DCE
