VME THROUGH THE YEARS

1986 VME Group was founded. One of the pioneers in mechanization of earthwork using

excavators and other sophisticated equipment.

1992

Ventured into building bridges for the Tamil Nadu State Highways based on Precast

Technology. Won an accolade from World Bank team for quality and also speedy

execution for the very first bridge.

1998

A bow string girder bridge at Katpadi for Southern Railways which won a National

Award by the Indian Institute of Bridge Engineers. This bridge was completed in 1998

where the entire span of 42 meters weighing 750 tons was cast separately and placed

in position. Setup its own Ready mix concrete unit.

2008 Set up India’s First Completely Automated Precast Factory along with global associates

VaBe and Elematic of Finland.

2010

Diversified into Real Estate domain with VME Realty.

Launched it First Project – Lakeside in August 2010 .

The entire construction will be done using Precast Technology.

The group has over the last twenty five years focused on planning, execution and transfer of specialized projects in the field of construction like road over bridges, railway bridges and other prestigious highway projects.

84 Precast prestressed beams were cast and

placed in just 3 months in the year 1992.

Moorad Bridge – Railway Bridge in the back

waters of Kerala.

Special Sacrificial caisson were used for well

foundation and each well weighing 300 Mt were

placed in position after casting for the first time in

Southern Railway.

Palar River Project for Southern Railways.

This marvel in engineering was completed in 1998

in the short span of just 9 months using a Special

launching girder. This rail bridge has 36

prestressed concrete box girders that are 20m

long and its total length is 720 meters across the

Palar River.

Palakkarai Road Over- Bridge, Trichy for Tamil

Nadu State Highways.

Built in a congested area, this bridge has a total

length of one km.The bridge has 10 spans of

concrete box girder and reinforced earth retaining

wall for approaches.

265 mm thick Hollow Core Slab of 8m length is being tested by placing two blocks weighing 2.5Mt

each. The slab was designed for 500kg/Sqm but the loading was 5 times more than the design

load acting like a point load and the slab did not fail.

• Longer span and greater loads than conventional slabs of same depth.

• Longer span, meaning less beams and columns required which gives more unobstructed space and saving for the client.

• Gives better heat insulation and also can be used for insulation by filling cool

ambient air in the holes of HCS which reduces air-conditioning requirement of a building by 30%.

Quality Control

In VME, the Precast Elements are produced in a controlled environment in a state-of-the-art plant.

Hence the highest levels of quality control can be maintained as opposed to on-site pouring of

concrete

Strength

Precast elements casted in the factory are of higher grade concrete mix proportions as

compared to the conventional way of on-site construction.

Weather Dependency

Precast concrete elements are cured in the plant itself which cuts down the time required for

curing and at the same time ensures proper effective curing. Dependency on the weather is also

avoided as changes in the weather will not delay production or affect the erection schedule.

Weather Resistance

Unlike other precast materials that can rust, rot or degrade in the presence of moisture, precast

concrete actually gets stronger if the un-hydrated cement particles in it react with water, thus

making it completely water-resistant.

Durability

Using precast concrete elements improves construction quality and thus extends the life cycle of

buildings.

Corrosion & Fire Resistance

Precast concrete is designed to withstand the most common corrosive agents. Most precast

materials other than concrete and steel are flammable or do not perform well in high temperatures. In

fact, even steel looses its structural capacity quickly which can lead a building to collapse. Precast

concrete is one of the few non-combustible building materials which does not loose its structural

capacity nearly as quickly as steel, and performs very well even in elevated temperatures.

Late 1960 Original grout-filled splice sleeve was invented by Dr.Alfred A. Yee. Splice sleeves were first used in precast concrete

column-tree connections for 38 story Ala Moana Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii.

1973 Splice Sleeves were introduced to Japan by Nisso Master Builders(NMB) and gained approval from Building Center of

Japan (BCJ).

1975 First 8 story precast shearwall type housings permitted in Japan because of outstanding performance of NMB Splice-

erected from behind and marched forward. With only one crane the entire precast

elements were erected in a short span of 5months. 10000Mt of precast elements

were transported from factory to site (700Km).

• HIGHLIGHT – The area was low lying area and dewatering was a herculean

task after heavy rains. Precast elements were cast during foundation works and kept read

for erection. In erection also one side of the building there was no space for crane

movements and all elements were erected from other side. With all difficulties the entire

project was completed in a short span of 8 months.

precast RCC Columns, Pre tensioned beams of 12m long, precast staircase and some

precast walls for stability.
