  2. 2. WHAT IS VLOGGING? Vlogging is blogging, but on camera. Sharing stories, reviews, days out, experiences, advice and hauls. You can use various social media outlets to vlog, including: YouTube Vimeo Vine SnapChat Instagram Periscope Storie
  3. 3. WHY SHOULD YOU VLOG? Because you enjoy it. To make your blog more relatable. To earn money from YouTube. Considerations Do you want your family life on YouTube? Are you willing to be found by people you know who dont know you vlog? Commenters can be particularly mean on YouTube, are you prepared?
  4. 4. WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED? A camera. Your mobile phone. A tripod. Something to edit on. Software to edit with.
  5. 5. FILMING TIPS Film with your camera the right way round! Think about sound. Good lighting. Relax. Breathe. Pretend you are talking to your best friend. Look directly into the camera. Copy Beyonce!
  6. 6. YOU DONT NEED EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT! Use things around your house to pop your camera on to film if you havent got a tripod. Use an egg timer to create moving time-lapse clips. Use tin foil to create a reflective light screen.
  7. 7. CHANNEL DESIGN Clear and consistent branding. Thumbnails are important. Use a welcome video and make sure you optimise the description and video title. Organise content into easy-to-navigate sections. Add relevant website links. Promote friends and collaborators with featured channels. Use an endslate or card at the end of your video to influence what your viewers watch next.
  8. 8. MUSIC How copyright impacts on your earnings? YouTube have a list of popular music and the restrictions attached to it. YouTube editor. FreeMusicArchive / SoundCloud. Credit.
  9. 9. HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR VIDEO BEFORE UPLOADING Check the sound levels. Increase audio within editing software. Can also use other software (Handbrake). When to upload.
  10. 10. TOP EDITING TIPS Know your editing software inside out. Dont start videos with a pause. Cut out hesitations and ums. Be ruthless if your clip doesnt add to the story you are trying to tell, get rid of it! Keep individuals clips short, no matter what the length of the overall video. Simple transitions between clips.   11. 11. WHAT NEXT? Customised thumbnail. Endslate and/or cards. Promote your video. Add to playlist. Action from viewer. Optimise for maximum discovery.

  13. 13. USING ANALYTICS YouTube analytics provides vital information. Review your YouTube analytics views report. What do your subscribers like to watch? How long do viewers watch for? Who are your viewers? Dont forget good content! Tailor future content to viewers.
  14. 14. BE CONFIDENT You dont have to be in front of the camera. You dont have to make videos like everyone else. You dont have to use moving images, stills work too. Be prepared for criticism - Delete and block. - Leave the comment. - Respond to the comment.
