HISTORY
• Vnukovo is Moscow’s oldest-serving airport.
• Service entry date: July 2, 1941. In 2016 the Airport will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
• During the Great Patriotic war the Airport served as base for the special Moscow Air Force Division and Task Force.
• The Vnukovo airmen fought heroically in the War’s every major battle, earning countless honors and distinction, they were also essential in operating the air bridge to the sieged Leningrad, flying in food and supplies, shipping out the wounded, and aiding the guerilla troops.
• The May of 1945 saw the delivery to Vnukovo Airport of the Victory Banner, as well as of the Act of Germany’s Unconditional Surrender .
• In 1945 Vnukovo formally becomes Moscow’s main airfield, with respective flight divisions set up for intra-Union and international air services
• April 14, 1961: Yury Gagarin is feted on arrival from the Baikonour Space Center, following successful completion of the first manned space flight mission.
HISTORY
• 1963: Launch of the Vnukovo 2 governmental terminal and apron
• Maiden commercial services operated out of
Vnukovo Airport by the following aircraft types: The Il-12, Il-14, Il-18, Il-86, The Тu-104, Тu-114, Тu-124, Тu-134, Тu-154, Тu204, and the Тu-204-300
• 1980: the Vnukovo 1 apron renovation completed. Passenger terminal D commissioned.
• 2004-2005: the implementation of the vast and ambitious Airport Master Plan commenced. 2004: the new International Terminal B inaugurated
• 2009: renovation of the Airport’s RWY2 completed, enabling ICAO Cat II operations
• 2009: the new Mail & Cargo Terminal with the total floor space of 56800 sq. m. commissioned
• 2010: the new passenger Terminal A’s Stage One measuring 270000 sq. m. in floor space launched
• 2012: terminal A’s Launch Stage Two was commissioned
LOCATION
• The Airport lies in Moscow’s South-West which translates into tangible flight time and fuel cost savings for airlines operating services to/from Europe
• The Airport’s elevation of 205 m above sea level is the highest among Moscow’s three major air gateways which gives it indisputable edge when operating in adverse weather conditions such as dense fogs.
• VKO is integrated into the mass transit grid of Moscow with a total of three major highways and a non-stop rail link that originates at Kievsky Train Station.
• VKO is the nearest airport to the Moscow subway system (6 miles)

The Moscow Vnukovo airfield is a class B (ICAO eqvt.: 4E) civil, joint-use(/mil.) aerodrome The airfield is certified for use by all the AC types except the B-788/789 RWY 06/24 [RWY 1] dims. 3500х60 m ILS: MHLND = 058º for CAT I, II precision approach; MHLND = 238º for CAT I, II precision approach CAT III eqpt launch – early summer, 2015 RWY 01/19 [RWY 2] dims.: 3060х45 m ILS: MHLND = 013º for CAT I precision approach MHLND = 193º for CAT I, II precision approach

ATC center & tower
• Vnukovo International maintains an in-house Fire &
Rescue Division boasting a 209-strong workforce and
equipment for said purposes.
• The Division’s brigades and equipment are concentrated
in the two Startup-Area Fire & Rescue Stations located
next to RWY1 and RWY2 respectively.
• Nine fire trucks are available, incl. one OSHKOSH
STRIKER 6x6, two IVECO IMPACTs ARFF 12000, and a
further six АА-8,0/55s (the Urals-4320 truck chassis-
based). The Division’s fleet also includes two track-type
tugs. Total volume of firefighting agent(s) is 85000 kg
including foaming agent at 7600 kg.
• Eight fire trucks are dispatched on active duty daily.
• The Airport’s RWY1 and RWY2 are rated as compliant
with Class 9 of Requisite Fire Protection Level (RFPL).

MAINTENANCE
• In-operation maintenance and scheduled repairs of the airfield pavement throughout, including the water & runoff drainage systems, as well as that of the airfield’s green-field and compacted-topsoil areas, the on-airport roads and the terminal forecourt areas.
• Bird strike prevention and ornithological supervision.
• Approval and supervision of on- or near-airfield
construction projects. • Training and licensing of vehicle drivers with
regard to the on-airport [vehicular] traffic rules, with relevant licenses/clearances issued to same.
• Supervision of third-party contractor
works/operations on the airfield • AC marshalling (using leader cars)

• For the visually-challenged, all directional signage is in white script against navy-blue background, further enhanced by ICAO-compliant pictograms

• Passenger throughput capacity is 60 per hour for the International Terminal, and a further 40 air travelers an hour that can be welcomed at its domestic facility
• The FBO offers ample hangarage for controlled-climate storage and maintenance of executive aircraft.
