Machine vision
= the application of computer vision to industry and manufacturing (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
Main machine vision needs:
(1) to image moving objects
(2) all about image performance rather than low power or cost (consumer applications)
―Interline CCD dominate(s/d) machine vision sensor market providing global shutter and high quality images
― Global shutter CMOS imagers introduced over the years
― CMOS images constantly improve in quality
― Global shuttering is the main differentiator between consumer (low cost) and machine vision (performance driven) CIS developments

VITA series, a true family
Note however that sensor architecture and pixel technology will be identical
for all VITA family members. Differences are limited to:
Resolution and its impact on active optical area and chip size
Package dimension, its pinning and the pinlist
Only VITA 1300 and VITA 2000 have a parallel CMOS interface
variant on top of the default LVDS data interface
VITA 1300, VITA 2000, VITA 5000 share same pixel and functionality
VITA 25k has only 4.5µm pixel size, no PLL, AEC or WDR support

Pixel
• Highly sensitive pixel with micro lenses
• 4.4 V/lux.sec @ 550 nm
• Pipelined global shutter with DS (integration during read out)
• Triggered global shutter with DS (successive integration and readout)
• Rolling shutter with CDS reducing noise floor <14 electrons
• The pixel is able to operate in several distinct shutter modes:
• Global Shutter Mode
• Pipelined – Master (Register controlled integration)
• Pipelined – Slave (User controlled integration)
• Triggered – Master (Register controlled integration)
• Triggered – Slave (User controlled integration)
• Rolling Shutter Mode

ROI and windowing
The VITA sensors supports multiple window readout, which means that only the user-selected Region Of Interests (ROI) will be read out. This allows the user to limit the data output per frame, which allows increasing the frame rate.
• In global shutter mode, up to 8 ROI’s (32 for VITA 25k) can be configured.
• In rolling shutter mode, only a single ROI is supported.

Sub-sampling
VITA sensors supports two(2) sub-sampling modes:
• read-1-skip-1 for monochrome sensors
• read-2-skip-2 for color sensors
Horizontal voltage averaging also supported.

Output interfaces
VITA sensors support 2 different data output interfaces:
• LVDS Output: 4 LVDS Output channels, together with an LVDS clock output and an LVDS synchronization output channel:
• LVDS data channels operate at 620 Mbps in 10-bit mode
• A synchronization LVDS channel and an LVDS output clock signal are foreseen to synchronize the data
• The data channels only contain image data. The sync channel transmits information about the data sent over these data channels (includes codes indicating black pixels, normal pixels, and CRC codes)
• 10-bit Parallel CMOS Output (only on VITA 1300 and VITA 2000):
• This output is combined with a CMOS clock output and ‘frame valid’ and ‘line valid’ CMOS output signals
