IDEOLOGY Ideas and principles that are based on beliefs of
society and human nature which explain your thoughts of the world.
Ex. A protestor thinks all animals should have rights and that’s is her thoughts of society that she would like to share with everyone.

INDIVIDUALISM Individualism means that the people look after
themselves and government is not as involved in their lives.
Ex. They would have to pay for medical issues themselves rather then the government paying.

COLLECTIVISM The people as a group is more important then the
individual. People should be equal to each other. Ex. Everyone pays taxes so there is money for public
facilities.

LIBERALISM As a collective, society would like all people to be
equal and all views should be heard. Ex. In Canada everyone is allowed the same
health care, rich or poor.

SELF INTEREST Self interest is someone’s personal interest to do
things that they believe will benefit their own lives.
Ex. A person tries very hard to get good marks in high school so they can get accepted into a really good college.

COMPETITION Competing with others. Competition helps to
motivate people to work harder and do better. Ex. The company GMC trying to sell more cars
then Dodge to be the better company.

FREEDOM Freedom is what democracy is based on. It
allows people to do what they want as long as they do not break the law.
Ex. People all across the world have the freedom of speech.

RULE OF LAW Rule of law is a principle that states every individual
must obey the law. It does not matter who you are the rule of law applies to everyone.
Ex. When murderers or thieves get caught they must go to jail.

PRIVATE PROPERTY Property such as houses, cars, buildings or land
etc. that is owned by an individual. Ex. When a person owns their home it is their
private property.

COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY Collective responsibility can mean 2 things.
One is that we all are responsible for each other and we make do things to benefit all of us. The second thing is that we are all responsible for the actions of society.
Ex. When environmental disasters happen we all take part to help out by donating money, food, clothing or other services.

COLLECTIVE INTEREST Collective interests are beliefs and thoughts
that a certain group of people share with one another.
Ex. People who are of the same religion share the same religious beliefs and thoughts of the world.

CO-OPERATION Co-operation means being able to work together
by team work or by collaborating combined thoughts without fighting.
Ex. When western farmers get together and harvest crops for the poor.

ECONOMIC EQUALITY A principle that states all people should earn
the same amount of money even if one person works harder then someone else.
Ex. Female dentists earn the same amount of money as male dentists.

COLLECTIVE NORMS Collective norms are normality's that a group of
people share. Its is normal to own these things or have certain behaviors in the certain group
Ex. Most people who live in Canada have food, shelter, and water.

PUBLIC PROPERTY Anyone can use the property because it is not
owned by an individual, it is owned by a community, state, or province etc.
Ex. A recreational center made for a community to use.

BELIEF Beliefs are an idea a group or individual has
about something that influences their lives or personality.
Ex. Some people strongly believe in god and it impacts their life decisions.

VALUE Values are possessions or ideas that are
important to a person in many ways. Values may influence a persons life or behaviors.

INDIVIDUAL IDENTITY Individual identity is who you are as an individual a
part of this identity is your own beliefs and values. Ex. Some people may choose to cut their hair
differently, get a piercing or a tattoo to express identity.

COLLECTIVE IDENTITY Collective Identity is your identity as a larger
group such as ethnic group, religion, or culture etc.
Ex. People of a different ethnic group like to embrace their culture.
