When you come in

The reception desk will be in front of you. There will be a person there. They work for the

museum and can help you if you have a question.

When you enter there may be other people in the museum. They might be in normal

clothes or in a costume or school uniform. You might see them pretending and acting out

a play. You do not need to worry about this and you may move to another room if you

want to until they have finished. They might sometimes be a bit loud or laughing.

What to do when you are in the museum

The museum and contains many objects, paintings and books about the history and

people of the town of Farnham. There are six different rooms to explore.

The Introductory Room is a dark room with pictures and information about Farnham’s

history. There are activities here for you to do.

The Temporary Exhibition Room is a light room with a television which sometimes plays

videos and music. The exhibitions in here will change so the exhibits may not be the exact

same ones when you visit.

In the corridor there are brass rubbings to do. Ask at reception if you would like to do

one. You will have to pay money for this.

You may also go through the back door if you want to see the garden.

The Town Life Room contains lots of objects which show what life was like in the past.

To reach the upper rooms go up the grand staircase. There are paintings on the wall as

you go up. You should not touch these paintings as they are old and delicate. The stairs

may be creaky.

At the top of the stairs you walk from carpet onto a dark wooden floor landing. This may

also be very creaky and some floorboards may move a little.

Opposite the stairs is a room called On the Road. This is about Transport.

The Craft Room contains art work made in Farnham. If it is a sunny day outside, there may

be lots of bright sunshine in this room. There is a television in this room which may be on

when you visit.

The Country Life Room contains information about farming and hop growing in

Farnham. There are lots of dark wooden objects. If it is a sunny day outside, there may

be lots of bright sunshine in this room.

At the end of your visit you might want to buy something from the museum shop.

On the ground floor there is a toilet which is for males, females and wheelchair users.

If you need the toilet

There is another toilet on the next floor, up the main staircase. This is suitable for

males and females. There is not a handle to flush the toilet but you pull the long chain.

Places to go for quiet

If you would like somewhere quiet to sit during your visit you may sit in the Library.

You do not have to be quiet in the library unless someone else is working in there.

You might like to read a book, please ask someone at Reception if you need help.

If the weather is dry, the garden has some seats in it and may also be a quiet place for you

to go.
