description

Wild Horse Gallery came about out of a desire to revitalize a community . At the northern gateway to Lake Mead and the Valley of Fire, Nevada, the area economy is tied to tourism. A struggling economy has impacted tourism and businesses in the area. Things are improving, more tourists are coming through, but the town has empty storefronts and a faded and dilapidated exterior. Mary Kaye Washburn wrote to the local paper, asking residents to join together to revitalize the community by giving a facelift to town, making it desirable for tourists to stop, and to encourage new businesses. Inspired to set an example, she and her daughter, Shelly Benkman, opened the gallery. Since opening their doors in March of 2013, four other businesses have followed suit. Overton now has a flower and gift shop, an ATV sales and service dealership, beauty salon/spa and boutique, and a new pizza parlor.
