Updating Information It is important for parents and carers to update their contact phone numbers and addresses with the school. This allows us to contact you if there is an emergency or other matter that requires prompt attention. Incorrect information can also affect the payment of Back to School allowances. Parents and caregivers must also notify the school of any medical conditions so that if illness or accidents occur your child can receive the best medical treatment available. Please contact the school during school hours on 6847 4438 to amend your details. Adult Education A number of vacancies still exist in our comprehensive Adult Education program. This program is highly successful so if you are interested in completing Preliminary and HSC subjects listed below please phone the front office on 6847 4438 during business hours. Vacancies still exist in Hospitality on a Tuesday mid- morning, Ceramics on a Wednesday night and Adult Literacy and Numeracy on a Wednesday mid-morning. Attendance The school is concentrating on improving student attendance this term. There are substantial benefits for sending your child to school every day. International research clearly shows that students who regularly attend school get the maximum benefit from school and optimise their life choices. They develop skills and attitudes that help them to be successful in later life. These include self-discipline, punctuality, being organised and being able to stick to routines. By attending school every day children can make friends and learn to maintain friendships and relationships over a length of time. Finally, the more you attend, the more you learn. I am asking every family to support the school in raising the awareness that good attendance has significant advantages for every student, parent and member of the local Warren community. It was a cold start but the students soon warmed up and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Riley Brown was named 12 years boys age champion for the day and also broke a record in the senior breaststroke. Heath Gough was runner up in the boys 11 years age group. Riley Brown, Saranna Fisk, Charlotte Scotson, Leila Gough and Heath Gough will now be attending the regional carnival at Dubbo on the 7 March. We wish them the best of luck. Warren Central Represented at the Western NSW Region Band Camp Courtney Graham (Year 7), Emily Smith (Year 8) and Abigail Irving (Year 8) once again attended the Western NSW Region Band Camp for Public School music students in Years 5 to 12. The girls arrived on Sunday 23

February and were put straight to work to begin learning at least 10 new pieces of music. Each day began with “breathing gym” and tutorials followed by two “rehearsals”, all up 5 hours of practice per day. Tutors in all orchestral instruments (except strings) travelled from Sydney to teach the students the specialities of their instrument. Students were asked to play music they had never seen before and they rose to the challenge admirably. The variety of music styles and genres helped the participants in the camp to develop their musicianship and musicology. The young musicians were given light relief for an hour or so by participating in swimming pool games, slip and slide, rock climbing and archery by day and theatre sports, a Dance Party, Mini Olympics and Wacky Races by night. By the end of the week the 60 students at the camp had combined to make an amazing orchestral sound. The Friday lunch time concert consisted of pieces such as Aladdin, Armenian Dancers, Coastguard, The Sound of Music medley, Bohemian Rhapsody, Moves Like Jagger, Prestissimo, Fire Dance and James Horner Movie Magic. Abigail also played with the Advanced Band which performed Vanguard and Exuberance! (requiring an extra hour’s practice each day after dinner). 24 schools across the region including Orange High School, Lithgow High School, Dubbo College Senior Campus, Denison College, Kelso, Forbes and Mudgee High Schools were represented at the annual camp. The girls had a wonderful time mixing with fellow musicians and enjoying the summer activities provided by the Sport and Recreation team at Lake Burrendong. The camp is sponsored by the NSW Department of Education and Community Services and the NSW Arts Unit.

Call for Volunteers The Macquarie Matrons are in full swing, organising their 8

th Gala

Ball which will be held on 22

March at the Narromine Aerodrome. Balls of the past have been great successes with over $850,000 raised for local charities. The success of the Balls would not have been possible without the generous support of time from our volunteers. This year’s Ball is shaping up to be a fantastic night with 600 tickets now on sale with all proceeds of the night going straight to charity. In 2014 the first 25% of funds raised will go to the Blue Healers program and the remainder of the money will go directly to the towns of Narromine, Trangie, Tottenham, Nyngan and Warren through the Macquarie Regional Support Fund. The fund donates money to community groups and causes including schools, hospitals and sporting teams. We are again relying on volunteers to help us coordinate and run this large event. If you are interested in volunteering, whether it is during the set-up, on the night (including working behind the bar or as wait-staff) or to help co-ordinate guests please contact the Macquarie Matrons: o Via the website: o http://www.macquariematrons.com.au/volunteer.html o By email [email protected] o By phone 0421011756 (Kate) or 0449820623

(Aimee)

There will be buses available to transport volunteers on the night of the Ball and a light dinner will be provided. Thank you for taking the time to consider volunteering and we look forward to hearing from you!
