WHAT: Students earn 6-8 credits WHERE: A residential living-learning program and activities help students connect with the local region and community.WHEN: A 5-week summer session preceded by a 3-day orientation --June 23- July 30 -- ending with a closing celebration.WHY:• WCU strategic plan to increase and enhance summer offerings.• Studentsbenefitfromtheaddedsupportandsmallerclasssize.• Summercreditsallowflexibilityforopportunitiessuchasstudy-abroador internshipsandpermitstudentstostillfinishinfour.
ATTENDANCE– 228 students (82%) participated in at least one SI session– Total visits made to SI Sessions = 947– Student average attendance = 4.2 sessions over the 5 weeksBY POPULATION– ASP: 147 students (86%) attended 431 visits– GAP: 76 students (99%) attended 516 visits PERSISTENCEStudents demonstrated overall behaviors known to contribute to student success:

Academic Success Program A conditional admission program offered in the summer• Established in 1975 & moved to First Year Experience in 2011• Enrollment = avg. 125 from 2011-2014 and in 2015 = 170
Catamount GAPNew freshmen who have been accepted to WCU for the fall via regular admissioncriteria and elect to get an early start.• 2014 Inaugural Year Enrollment = 62 (3 class groups)• Summer 2015 Enrollment = 96 (a 55% growth--6 class groups)

Peer LeadershipSupplemental Instruction (SI Leaders): Student facilitated learning sessions Peer Academic Leader (PAL): Academic skills and peer coach supports the student transition experience, bridging to fall with conttinued access to peer support.NASPA Summer Internship ProgramEmploys two undergraduate interns to assist with Case Management and programming.
Case ManagementAn intensive and holistic model to provide advising, resources, intervention, and support for students (personally, academically, & socially). Through weekly CM meetings faculty and staff are positioned to be responsive to student needs within the accelerated timeframe of summer session.
