Importance of Open Houses

“Alone we can do so little, Together we can do so much.”

---Helen Keller

I endorse the quote of Helen Keller because I believe that the holistic development of a child depends upon the hard work of student, parents and teachers. It has been proven that active participation of a parent brings massive change in the student’s academic and behavioural performance.

In order to work together as a team, it is necessary to develop a strong bridge betweenparents and educators. This bridge is developed via open houses. An Open house serves as aplatform that helps both parents and teachers to develop a rapport and build a strongrelationship to understand and determine the needs of the student.

Attending open houses by the parents is really important as it is a great opportunity to shareacademic progress and growth based on classroom observations, testing, assessments, portfolios and assignments. When parents are involved in their children’s academic lives, they do better in school.

Open houses open a communication channel where the parents and teachers become betterinformed about students’ strengths, needs, behaviours and learning styles. The issues thatmay be interfering with students learning and growth can be discussed and resolved.Attending open houses is a way to be involved and help the student succeed.

Three P’s of a great parent teacher conference are: personal, positive, productive. So let us join hands to develop a healthy and strong relationship and help our children touchthe sky.

Good thoughts and positive surroundings are the prerequisites for reaching the journey

successfully. What does success really mean? Is it based on mere hardwork? No way! It is a

totality of all efforts and interrelated events; subjective experiences and much more, isn’t it?

This week, let’s have a look at the real factors behind life success.

‘Reading to learn’ is an essential tool for life-long learning. Promoting a

reading culture among students is therefore one of the key tasks in the

curriculum reform with the aim to strengthen students’ learning

capabilities.

This is also one of our aim in conducting ‘Book Fair’ at Cambridge

International School. With the modern technology, picking book is

difficult to compete and set reading in the mind of our students, but still

many of them dived hard to find their favourites. Let us support this

generation not to lose their interest.

YEAR 4 – SPORTS DAY(27th January 2020)

Y4 Sports Day began with the opening ceremony which consisted of a march of the

houses with their house flags led by teachers carrying the Qatar flag and the school flag.

We then had the national anthem. The principal, vice principal and head of year

addressed the staff present and the students. There then followed a display dance by Y4

students led by the dance teacher.

The students enjoyed a variety of sporting activities such as goal scoring, basket

shooting, a version of egg and spoon race as well as hurdles, running races and the like.

All students were actively engaged in the sports day and had an enjoyable time. There

was good team spirit demonstrated by all and the winning teams were applauded.

There then followed presentation of the cups to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place houses and all

children were presented with certificates of participation.

Kindergarten

We had another busy week. Children are making progress in their learning.

We ensure that your child is given the best opportunity to develop their

own unique abilities whilst building a strong foundation for their future

learning.

We have concluded our theme on ‘People around the World. The recent

field trip to ’Al Sulaiteen Farm’ was very exciting. The day began by looking

beautiful greenery all around. It was wonderful to see lots of smiles on the

little faces.

Nature bounty, children experienced seeing a lot of vegetables and

flowers around them. Now they know that plants need air, water, soil and

sunshine to grow. They picked tomatoes, cucumber and salad leaves to

make a healthy bowl. The weather was just right. They enjoyed the picnic

with their friends and teachers. A big thanks to the farmers for showing thevarious varieties of flowers. They were in myriad colours.

Sincerely,

Seema Jaffer

Head of Kindergarten
