This takes effect in the shutter-priority AE (Tv)and aperture-priority AE (Av) modes. If thesubject brightness changes and the standardexposure cannot be obtained within theautoexposure range, the camera will automaticallychange the manually-selected setting to obtain astandard exposure
This works in the Program AE (P), shutter-priority AE (Tv), and aperture-priority AE (Av)modes. If the subject brightness changes andthe standard exposure cannot be obtainedwithin the autoexposure range, the camera willautomatically change the manually set ISOspeed to obtain a standard exposure.

This function does NOT work with macrolenses whose actual aperture f/numberchanges when the magnification changes. This function does not work with movies.
Under [ 2: ISO speed settings], even if[ISO speed range] or [Min. shutter spd.] ischanged from the default setting, safety shiftwill override it if a standard exposure cannotbe obtained. The minimum and maximum ISO speeds of thesafety shift using the ISO speed will bedetermined by the [Auto ISO range] setting(p.158). However, if the manually set ISO speedexceeds the [Auto ISO range], the safety shiftwill take effect up or down to the manually setISO speed. Safety shift will take effect ifnecessary even when flash is used.

Rapid and concise tailoring of the EOS 7D Mark II'sfocus tracking in AI Servo AF is done here, in the[AF1] menu tab with the AF Configuration Tool. Six“Cases” optimize the camera for different types ofmoving subjects, and are discussed on thefollowing pages.
The AF1 tab: Canon's AF Configuration Tool
AF2: AI Servo AF shutter timing, fps rateFine-tuning of shooting speed and shutterrelease timing with moving subjects in AI Servo AF
AF3: One-Shot AF; AF-assist beam; etc.Settings related to focusing and shutter-releasetiming when using One-Shot AF release priority
AF4: AF point management, etc.Control of AF points, for both manual andautomatic AF point selection
AF5: AF displays in viewfinder, etc.How AF points are displayed in finder, andcontrol of AF Microadjustment
Case 1: is the basic AI Servo AF setting
Case 1 is the recommend setting to startshooting action subjects, and is the camera’sdefault setting when you take it out of the box.

Case 2 : Continue to focus on an original subject, even when obstacles may quickly appear
Case 3: The opposite of Case 2 instantly focus on any new subject at the active AF point
Case 4: Set AI Servo AF to expect and react quickly to changes in subject speed
This is a situation where you anticipatea hiding wild bird jumping out from a nearby nest. With Case 3, AF will respond immediately — waitfor the moment the bird appears, you can quickly focus and shoot continuously.
Any time subjects may move quickly from side toside, it's possible for the AF point to suddenly beupon something like the background.Case 2 delays any change to AF in these cases, tending to lock-on to the original subject even if theAF point momentarily leaves that subject.
Continuously track subjects as they suddenlyslow down and speed up
Case 5: Speed up the rate that AF points change, when using any expanded AF AreaIt works in any of the following AF Area settings:• AF Point Expansion (4 surrounding points)• AF Point Expansion (8 surrounding points)• Zone AF• (new) Wide Zone AF• Automatic AF Point selection
Case 6: Two AF parameters combine, to focus-track the most challenging of moving subjects
Case 6 is a setting that combines features of bothCase 4 (support for sudden changes in speed),and Case 5 (support for erratic movement in anydirection).
