PROVIA ENGINEERING

Vinyl Window Product TestingEvery ProVia® vinyl window is tested to meet or exceed the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) standards. Our vinyl window products are tested on a certified test wall that allows for maximum testing capabilities, and helps ensure the highest-quality products.

Engineers in our test lab and third-party testing facilities work hard to make sure our vinyl windows are performing their best. Our testing includes:

• Structural Integrity

• Forced Entry

• Corner Weld Strength

• Deglazing Resistance

• Water Infiltration

• Air Infiltration

• Sealant

• Vinyl Impact

Each of our window and door products contain an ENERGY STAR®/NFRC Label that is required by the EPA. The ENERGY STAR/NFRC label is an important tool in educating you on how our vinyl window products perform in your climate zone.

U-Factor – Insulating value of the entire window system. Lower numbers reflect better insulating value.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) - Amount of heat from the sun passing through the glass. Lower numbers show glass is keeping heat from entering your home.

Visible Transmittance – Amount of visible light passing through the glass. Higher numbers show glass is allowing more light to enter your home.

Air Infiltration – How much air is entering or escaping through the window. Lower numbers show air is kept from entering or escaping. Condensation Resistance – Amount of moisture it takes for glass to condensate when exposed to extreme interior and exterior temperature changes. Higher numbers show better resistance to condensation.

Air Infiltration

Air Infiltration

Nowadays door and window manufacturers are required to list a standard air infiltration number on their NFRC product labelling before products ship to you, our valued homeowner.

Manufacturers have found inventive marketing ways to promote their products as being the most air-tight product on the market today. In fact, some manufacturers have even promoted their numbers using images of soda cans and jugs of water.

ProVia has something simple to say about air infiltration. We want to explain the facts to you. That’s it. Nothing else. Just the plain old truth.

How Air Infiltration is Measured Air leakage is measured by a physical testing of a standard sized window. The test window is installed on a large wall. On one side, a vacuum of 75 pascals (1.57 psf) is applied. This is equal to approximately a 25 mph wind blowing perpendicularly to the window. Flow meters measure the rate of air leakage. This is divided by the total window area to get a reading in cfm/ft2 to the nearest tenth. All testing is based on ASTM E 283 requirements by the NFRC.

So, when a window is designed by ProVia, and before we go to market, we want to make sure the window will meet or exceed NFRC criteria to a common size that a homeowner would install into their home. We have published these ratings on our website and in our literature so that we remain transparent with our testing data.

How We Measure Up We’ve taken the NFRC requirements and measured them against our product results. What you will find is that our windows EXCEED the NFRC requirements. In fact, they exceed so well, that you will be confident in knowing

your ProVia windows will keep you comfortable all year long for many years.

To Reduce Condensation You Must Control HumidityWindows do not create condensation. Windows help prevent moisture from escaping to the outside and are the most visible surface where condensation is noticeable.

Remember, if you have water, frost or ice on the surface of a double-glazed window, you have excess humidity in your home. To reduce condensation, you must reduce humidity.

If the humidity level is high, relative to the outside and inside temperature, condensation will still occur, regardless of what window you have in your home.

Humidity is the moisture content in the air around you. It makes you feel more comfortable, but can cause damage to ceilings, walls and insulation if it becomes too high, creating condensation.

Humidity affects how you feel in extreme heat or bitter cold. Even in the colder months, humidity can affect how warm you feel.

How much is too much? For maximum comfort, try to maintain the relative humidity in your home between 30 and 40 percent. You can measure humidity with an instrument called a hygrometer.

What Causes Humidity to be Too High?Anything which tends to evaporate moisture will contribute to humidity. Below are a few of the chief sources of moisture evaporation.

1. Uncontrolled furnace humidifiers - turn them off to reduce excessive humidity.

2. Open faced, un-vented gas heaters - use them sparingly and most importantly, connected to a chimney.

3. Damp basement walls and floors - waterproof to prevent condensation.

Check Your Relative Humidity Levels by Climate Zones

Below is a chart listing the maximum recommended humidity levels by climate zones.

4. Excessive boiling when cooking - use exhaust fans or open up windows to allow steam to exit house.

5. Hanging laundry to dry - make sure room is vented with open windows.

6. Large number of plants, watered daily - during cold winter times, move plants into another room secluded from rest of house.

7. New construction homes that haven’t had time to have the drywall, plaster, paint, concrete and cement to fully dry or cure (it takes up to nearly a year). This dampness can cause humidity in a newly constructed home.

Bulb SealWeatherstripping is a very important part of preventing air from moving into your home. ProVia’s windows have weatherstripping on both the window frame and sash, ensuring a good seal at the important locations where air could pass through.

Bulb seals are seamless closed-cell compression seals that prevent water from penetrating the foam cell structure. Its extruded skin provides a unique UV-resistant barrier with design features that enhance the weatherstrip’s sealing performance.

Barrier-Fin SealWoven and extruded pile weatherstripping with fin provides a very effective barrier against air, water, dust and noise; sealing against even and uneven surfaces with resistance to abrasion. The pile fibers are resistant to acid, alkaline, mold, mildew and corrosion, as well as being silicone treated to repel water. The pile and fins are stabilized to exceed AAMA Class A requirements.

The above information was derived from Amesbury's website. For more information on their weatherstripping components, visit their website at: http://www.amesbury.com/hung-windows/weather-seals

ProVia’s® Vinyl Windows - Optimum DesignBoth the Aeris™ and Endure™ windows are designed with superiorly engineered vinyl profiles. Each profile is manufactured with premium wall cavities providing the highest levels of efficiency.

This strong and rigid vinyl extrusion keeps you comfortable in your home without the need for insulation. However, we use Neopor® in certain cavities for homeowner peace of mind.

These specific cavities were tested in a third-party lab to ensure the best possible performance level was achieved. We chose the best foam designs and cavities where performance was at its peak so you are not paying for something you do not need.

By doing this, you can rest assured the window sash and frame, along with the Neopor insulation, are doing their jobs in keeping your home comfortable.

The High-Performing Alternative to Aluminum ReinforcementsSuperior performance doesn’t get much easier than this. INNERGY Rigid Thermal Reinforcements are advanced fiberglass reinforced resin inserts, designed to slide easily into energy-efficient window frame chambers for greater support and insulation.

The result is a new, more energy-efficient system with all the strength and structural reinforcement of aluminum, but with a whole new set of high performance benefits.

The color GREEN used in INNERGY is a trademark of Deceuninck North America LLC http://www.deceuninckna.com/windows-and-doors/innergy/All information cited on these pages are sole property of Deceuninck.

Green Inside and OutINNERGY looks green because it is, starting with up to 20% bio-based resin in its proprietary formulation. Incorporating soy and other renewable sources, the composite offers strength, stability and flexibility without using styrene or peroxide.

But the real green story is the superior thermal performance which enables INNERGY to be added to an energy-efficient window – virtually impermeable to cold or heat and extremely resistant to condensation.

You can be proud knowing ProVia incorporates this material into your vinyl windows.
