Materials Required:

BAG No. 805

DRITZ Belastraw Art. No. 110,

3 tubes of Main Color, 1 tube of Contrasting Color.

DRITZ Steel Crochet Hook No. 0 (Zero).

DRITZ Bag Lining No. 752. 15 dozen beads to match contrasting color.

21" Millinert Wire.

GAUGE: 4 1/2 sts make 1".

BEST BEAU BAG--No. 805

Starting at bottom with Main Color, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: 8 sc in ring.

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc (16 sc). Mark last st of each rnd.

3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * (24 sc).

4th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * (30 sc).


6th to 15th rnds: Sc in each sc increasing 6 sc on each rnd (96 sc on 15th

rnd).

16th rnd: Clamp wire to form a circle. Working over wire, * insert hook in

next sc and pull loop through, y o, through 1 loop, insert hook in same sc

and pull loop through, y o, through 3 loops. Repeat from *. Work up side as

follows:

1st rnd: Working in back loops only make sc in each sc.



2nd to 11th rnds: Sc in each sc.

12th rnd: Sc in each sc, then mark this round with a colored thread. Flounce

will be worked on this rnd later.

13th to 23rd rnd: Sc in each sc.

24th rnd: Repeat 12th rnd.

25th to 35th rnds: Sc in each sc.


37th to 40th rnds: Sc in each sc. End off.

FLOUNCES: Work 1st rnd same as ridge of Hat No. 792. With ContrastingColor work 2nd rnd of ridge of Hat No. 792 increasing 22 sc (118 sc). Work

4 more rnds straight. Measure off 4 rnds of Belastraw beyond last sc. Break

off. String 59 beads on this strand. Work one more rnd of sc, pushing up 1

bead in every other sc. End off. Make flounces on other marked rnds. Mount

on DRITZ Bag Lining No. 752.

3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 14 sc. Repeat from * (96 sc).

21st to 27th rnds: Sc in each sc.

2nd rnd: Work 2 hdc in each "eye" (240 hdc). Join and end off.

With Belastraw work 2 rnds straight. End off. Press through a damp cloth.

End--(make 2): Ch 15.

1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 12 ch, 5 sc in last ch; then working

along other side of starting chain make sc in 12 ch.

2nd rnd: Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc (top of End), sc in 14 sc, 3 sc in next

Metallic Band: 1st rnd: Attach Metallic Yarn in any sc, ch 3, insert hook in 2nd ch fromhook and pull loop through, pull loop through next ch, pull loop through same sc where

yarn was attached, pull loop through next sc, y o and draw through all 5 loops on hook,ch 1 (star st made); * pull loop through "eye" of last star st and another through back of

last loop of same star st; pull loop through same sc where last loop of last st was pulled

through; pull loop through each of next 2 sc, y o and draw through all 6 loops, ch 1.Repeat from * (42 star sts). Join with sl st in "eye" of 1st star st.

GAUGE: 5 sts make 1".

BRETON BEAUTY BAG--No. 779

Starting st center of bottom, ch 18 to measure 3 1/2".

1st rnd: Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 15 ch, 3 sc in last ch; then

working along opposite side of starting chain make sc in 15 ch. Mark last st

of each rnd.

2nd rnd: Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc (point), sc in 17 sc, 3 sc in next sc

(point), sc in remaining 16 sc.

3rd rnd: * Sc in each sc to center sc of the 3-sc group of next point, 3 sc in

center sc. Repeat from * once more; sc in each remaining sc of rnd. Repeat

3rd rnd until piece measures about 3 1/2" by 6 1/2". Clamp wire to form

ring; then shape into an oval.

Next rnd: Starting at point and working over wire, * insert hook in next sc

and pull loop through, y o, through 1 loop, insert hook in same sc and pull

loop through, y o, through 3 loops. Repeat from * around.

Work up Side as follows:

1st rnd: Dc in back loop of each st increasing evenly to 96 sts.

from wired edge. Work 4 rnds of dc. Join and drop Belastraw (top of bag).

MESH: Attach Metallic Yarn in base of 1st dc 4 rnds back, ch 1, sc where

yarn was attached, * ch 5, skip 2 dc, sc in same place as next dc.

Repeat from * ending with ch 2, dc in 1st sc (32 loops).



Next rnd: * Ch 5, insert hook through next loop and in base of next

corresponding dc on following rnd and pull loop through, complete an sc.

Repeat from * ending with ch 2, dc in top of dc. Repeat last rnd 2 more

times (4 rows of loops). End off.

Following rnd: Pick up Belastraw and work sc around catching center of

each Metallic loop. End off.

With top of bag toward you, attach Metallic Yarn in base of dc 3 rnds from

wired edge and work 3 rows of loops same as before. End off.

Attach Belastraw and work sc's in remaining loops of wired edge catching

center of each Metallic loop. End off.

Mount on DRITZ Bag Lining No. 786. Attach DRITZ Ornamental Zipper

Pull with 4" chain.

MESH: 1st row: Attach Metallic Yarn in base of 1st sc made, ch 1, sc in

2nd row: Insert hook through 1st loop of last row * and in base of next

corresponding sc on 3rd row and pull loop through, complete an sc, ch 5,

catching previous loops as before. End off.

4th row: Pick up Belastraw, ch 1, turn and work sc's across catching center

Continue thus, increasing 8 sc on each rnd until there are 104 sc on rnd. Work straightuntil piece measures 5 3/4" from start.

Join with sl st in 1st sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, sc in each sc (129 dc). Join with sl st in top of ch-3.

MESH: Attach Metallic Yarn in same place as 1st dc of 2nd rnd, ch 1, sc where yarn was

CUFF-(make 2): With Contrasting Color ch 46.

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining sc (45 sc). Ch 1, turn.

2nd row: Skip 1st sc, sc in each remaining sc (1 sc dec). Ch 1, turn.

Cut out lining and buckram to fit Bag Piece up to the 19th rnd. Sew in place,

inserting zipper at center of top. Now cut lining and buckram to fit top pieceand sew in place. Make 2 horizontal pleats on each side at center of each top

piece. For front piece, cut a piece of felt 2 X 10 inches and one 2 X 8 inches.

Sew one end of 2 X 10 inch piece to inside of Bag, back of pleat. Sew one

end of the 2 X 8 inch piece 1 inch below pleats in center of top. Fold free

ends of the 2 pieces together to form bow and sew in place.

BAG PIECE (Make 2) ••• Starting at center, cast on 120 sts. 1st row: K

across. 2nd row: P across. 3rd to 6th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows. 7th

and 8th rows: K across. These 8 rows constitute Pattern. Work in pattern

until 6 ridges have been made, ending with 2nd row.

To Shape Gusset: 1st row: K 69, k 2 tog, turn. 2nd row: P 19, P 2 tog, turn.

3rd row: K 19, k 2 tog, turn. Working in pattern, repeat 2nd and 3rd rows of

Gusset until 48 sts remain. Then k 3 tog (instead of k 2 tog) until 20 sts

remain. Bind off.

HANDLE ••• Cast on 14 sts. Work in pattern until Handle measures 36

inches. Bind off,

Block and press bag pieces and handle. Turn bag pieces inside out and make

paper pattern to fit exactly. Cut buckram from pattern, cut lining ½ inch

larger all around. Sew lining pieces over buckram, turning back ½ inch

allowance all around. Sew bag pieces together at cast on edges, working

from wrong side. Sew both bag pieces and lining pieces together. Turn bag

right side out, blind st lining in place. Fold top of gusset toward inside of bag and sew in pleat at top. Line handle with buckram and lining material.

Cover buckles with buttonhole stitch and slip over handle. Sew handle over

center seam of bag, moving buckles to top of bag. Sew short ends of handle

together.

MOTIF ••• Ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 20 dc in ring. Sl

st in 1st dc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd rnd: Sc in back loop of each dc around. Sl st in

1st sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd rnd: Sl st in back loop of st where sl st was made on

1st rnd, ch 3, in same place make dc, ch 3 and 2 dc, * dc in free loop of each

of next 4 sts on 1st rnd, in next free loop make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc. Repeat

from * around, ending with sl st in top st of starting ch-3. Ch 1, turn. 4th rnd:

Sc in back loop of each st around. Sl st in 1st sc. Break off. Make 80 motifs

in all.

Sew motifs together as shown on chart, catching only the free loop of sts on

3rd rnd (thus allowing ridge to stand). Cut 2 pieces of lining material same

as crocheted piece (including points). Cut crinoline ¼ inch smaller all

around. Face crinoline with one piece of lining material. Cover other side of

crinoline with lining material, turning in all edges and sewing with slip sts

all around. Sew lining to wrong side of crocheted piece. Fold piece in half (lining inside) and pin top edges together. Fold in 4 motifs at each end to

form gussets (dotted lines on chart). Sew side edges. Sew zipper along

opening.

LOOP • • • 1st row: Ch 5. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 ch. Ch 1,

turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 5

inches. Break off. Sew long edges together. Sew ends together, forming a

loop. Sew this end of loop to zipper pull. Make 2 motifs and sew them

together back to back. Sew one corner of joined motifs to free end of loop.
