Dedicated psychologist

Vincent Monastra is a clinical psychologist that dedicated three decades to do clinical studies on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD. He studied 10,000 individuals who have attention issues and wrote his findings through articles and books, one of which is the award winning “Parenting Children with ADHD. 10 Lessons that Medicine Cannot Teach.”In this book, Monastra illustrated the medical, nutrition, educational and psychological side of ADHD. This is to educate adults, especially the parents and teachers, on how to help lessen the symptoms in children diagnosed with ADHD.

Monastra simplified this book into to ten lessons, a program that will guide parents with daily steps. He also stressed that aside from the parent’s care and patience, nutrition, medication and therapy is also important to help the child become more attentive and focused. These will also help the child to be able to control and manage his behaviour.

Unlocking the Potential of Patients with ADHD

Another book which he wrote, “Unlocking the Potential of Patients with ADHD”, is a guide for medical practitioners to further understand the complexities of this disorder. The book holds Monastra’s intensive research on molecular genetics, neuroimaging, neurophysiology, and the function and behaviour of the brain.

Monastra also put in his book strategies on how to make a long-term plan for the patient’s daily activity outside the clinic. The plan can also help practitioners educate the parents and teachers on how they can contribute to the child’s progress. This is to help the child grow up normally and make the signs of ADHD barely noticeable upon reaching adulthood.

Aside from writing books, Monastra is currently the head of the FPI Attention Disorders Clinic based in New York.
