Welcome to Villages Housing 2010 Community Calendar.

We hope that you like the revised format. Following feedback from last year’s calendar we have gone back to a design with a hook to make it easier to hang up.

We have worked again with the local primary schools and for the first year the new secondary school, Christ the King, in Knowsley. We do appreciate the support of the local schools and pupils and we hope that you enjoy the pictures.

The themes for drawings this year are varied but link to issues that we feel are important such as celebrating good things, thinking of others, aspiring to reach new goals and respecting each other and the environment.

We would like to wish all our residents and partners a Happy, Safe and Prosperous 2010.

Be Sensible – Be Safe – Have a Gas Safety Check!!We are required by law to carry out annual gas service checks to all our properties. It is essential that you grant us access to your home so that this work can be undertaken. This service is for the safety of you, your family, visitors and neighbours. If you fail to permit this vital work to be carried out there will be no alternative but to take you to court to gain access. REMINDER: Either Villages, or our gas contractor, will make direct contact with you when your annual service is due to take place.

History of the World CupThe 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup and is scheduled to run from 11 June to 11 July 2010 (THE FINAL!) in South Africa. The first World Cup tournament was held in Uruguay in 1930. In total 13 nations took part — seven from South America, four from Europe and two from North America.

Get FitYou don’t have to join a gym to get exercise. Why not ride a bike, or get together with family and friends and go for a walk, or get off the bus a stop earlier? You could even start your own football team, nurturing the world cup players of the

future!!

Stay Warm Stay WellEach winter more than 25,000 older people die from cold-related illnesses. You can also help stay warm and healthy by: •Dressing appropriately - thin layers of clothing rather than one thick layer. •Staying active - don’t stay sitting still for long periods •Get a flu jab •Eat at least one hot meal a day•Closing curtains at dusk will help keep the heat inyour home

Saint Andrew’s Day - 30 NovemberSaint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, Greece and Russia and was one of the Twelve Apostles (disciples of Jesus) and brother of Simon Peter (Saint Peter). He was a fisherman by trade, who lived in Galilee (in present-day Israel.) In Scotland it was a common custom for farm workers and labourers to go "St. Andra'ing". They would catch rabbits and hares and later on in the day would feast and drink.
