Zengeler Cleaners has teamed up with the Glass Slipper Project (GSP) to support the organization’s annual collection drive. The Glass Slipper Project is an all-volunteer organization helping high school women experience the joy of prom at their schools, focus-ing on those who could not otherwise attend because of the expense of dresses and accessories. “Prom dress donation season is one of our favorite times of the year,” said Tom Zengeler, President of Illinois’ oldest and largest cleaners. “Our team enjoys the oppor-tunity to work with students from several northern Illinois high schools, libraries and local businesses to support the Glass Slipper Project. We’ve collected more than 16,000 dresses over the last three years, and are confident we’ll collect another 5,000 this year!” All Zengeler Cleaners locations are now accepting lovingly worn dresses, shoes, accessories and jewelry to support the initiative.

The North Suburban YMCA summer camp registration is now open. The complete camp guide is available at http://www.nsymca.org. From the Desk of State Senator Julie Morrison

In the coming weeks and months, legislators will begin crafting a spending plan for the fiscal year that starts on July 1. While deliver-ing a budget that lives within our

means and continues to bring stability to our residents and business community will be a top priority, the General Assembly will also be debating a host of business-related measures.

Living in a highly populated area close to the Wisconsin border, it is important that our business climate is com-petitive. Businesses looking to relocate or expand need to have faith that Illinois is a stable environment in which to invest.

Earlier this month, Site Selection Magazine announced Il-linois as a top state for businesses looking to relocate. The award ranks states on the number of business projects per capita. In 2017, Illinois ranked third nationwide with 419 statewide projects, more than Missouri, Indiana, Wiscon-sin, Iowa and Kentucky. Per capita, Illinois ranked fourth nationwide.

Keeping Illinois competitive with neighboring states is a key focus of several measures being debated in Spring-field. Senate Bill 3285 engages the Department of Com-merce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to develop a strategy that focuses on assisting businesses and munici-palities that are close to the state border. The proposal would also identify incentives offered to businesses in neighboring states to assist Illinois in creating more com-petitive business incentives.

Another tool to entice business development and job growth is the Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit. I have filed Senate Bill 3153 to reinstate the credit that would give eligible small business owners who create new, full-time positions a $2,500 per job tax credit. The proposal is currently in the Senate Revenue Committee. I will be sure and keep you updated on these and other proposals affecting small businesses in the months ahead.
