Prayer Chain—It’s been around for awhile, so now it’s easy
to take it for granted and overlook the POWER of united
prayer. When you have a pressing need, please don’t forget
to make use of this resource of people who care and want to
be there in prayer with you. Call Laverne Schwoeppe at
636-742-5754 or 636-288-6382. She will get all on the

June 24th - Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist
How beautiful the readings are today for this solemnity! They re-
mind us that God knows us and loves us so deeply. He knows us
better than we know ourselves. Even before we were born, He saw
what our lives would be like. Just like the prophet Isaiah and John
the Baptist, we are called to be servants of God who dedicate our
lives to Him. Our Triune God must be the center of everything that
we do, not just another item among the many on a checklist. Today,
invite God to come into every dimension of your life, especially your
family life. With this approach of consecration to God, making Him
the focal point of our relationships, our work, and our leisure, we can
bring others into a similar relationship with God and help them rec-
ognize their true identity as sons and daughters called to serve. Let
us be like St. John the Baptist, who constantly sought to point others
to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, during his short life.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Rejoice!! Our Feast Day has arrived: the Birthday of St. John the Baptist – and the whole world rejoices with us
in a way that only happens on Sunday! We are united in custom and we are united in spirit. We are united to St.
John who in his own person unites the most ancient prophets of the Old Testament with the very beginning of the
New Testament. He was born of an important priestly family and he lives extreme poverty in the desert off locusts
and wild honey. He prepares the way for the good news of salvation by reminding us to seek repentance so that we
might receive it. St. John loves the truth enough to correct falsehood. At the end of his earthly life he gives up his
head and allowed his own flesh to become separated into two. In so doing he defends the sacrament of marriage
where the flesh of two really become one and they may not be separated by anyone. John brings together a little bit
of every man and beautifully represents us all, for Jesus says that “No man born of woman is greater than John the
Baptist.” And yet before John is even born, he leaps in Elizabeth’s womb at the coming of Jesus through whom the
least born from Christ is his superior. Rejoice! John’s joyful birth should help us to rejoice in becoming small and
glorying in the fact that God is so much bigger than us….and so He can provide this new birth of baptism through
which we all have access to the spirit. It is this gift of the Spirit that can help us unite all the extremes of our own
lives together in Christ.
So, I write this as we begin setting up for the German Games. I am very excited and I hope that everyone
who wanted to get some weisswurst or jalapeno cheese brats were satisfied. I am thinking almost as much about
those as I am about the German Ninja Warrior and our new Tarzan Swing! Thank you to all of the polka dancers and
to the Loehnig band for coming out on Friday. Thank you to Don Brinker for mowing around our schedule for
things. Thank you to Mike Haley and Tom Gustafson and all who helped set up the obstacles and those who got out
tables and chairs, etc. Thank you for our concession booth volunteers. Thank you to the Schnitzel team headed by
Bernie VanBooven. Thank you for the outdoor music provided by Dean Ley. Thank you to Joe Tobben, Allen
Gephardt, and John Busch for grilling. Thank you to Dave Patke for all of his sure-to-be hilarious commentary and
leadership as the ringleader of the games themselves. A huge thank you to the planning committee – Angie Weide-
mann, Ruth Wissmann, Margaret Durbin, and Mary Patke. Thank you to all of our teams! Thank you to all of the
generous donors and sponsors. Thank you for all of you who brought firewood! Forgive me in the spirit of our feast
day if I have forgotten anyone. God bless you – what an event!
I know that I already mentioned earlier that I have been given notice of my installation as pastor here at St.
John’s. Now I know the date: July 22nd at the 10:30 Mass. I can’t wait. Thank you for your prayers and please keep
them coming. I am praying for you and that I might bring that same Spirit of Christ that John the Baptist spoke with
when he proclaimed: “He must increase. I must decrease.”
May God bless you and be your Strength,
Father Foy
Brothers and Sisters ~ Come with me to Poland from October 15-22,
2018. Everyone needs to be invigorated with the faith, and Poland is
a nation that exists because of her faith. We will travel to Warsaw
which was restored to a glory that World War II could not erase, and
Krakow – the heart of Poland and the land of St. John Paul II! I have
journeyed to Poland several times and each time the people that I’ve
met have showed me how much we share together – and my faith has
been emboldened. We will carry our prayers to the Black Madonna
Shrine at Częstochowa and invoke St. Maximilian Kolbe at Auschwitz and St. Faustina at the Shrine of Divine
Mercy and drink in the truth that the Kingdom of God joins us across every time and every culture! Please call
me at 636-583-2488 as soon as possible and check out more at Poland2018.net
