1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution.
Conducted an orientation session of First Year B.Sc, B.Sc.(Biotech) and B.Sc.(I. T.) on
4th
July 2005. Milind Koli (CEO, E-Volve Technologies, Thane), Dr. S.S.Yeragi
(K.J.Somaiya College, Vidyavihar) were the guests present on the occasion and
delivered the lectures on scope of these courses.
Educational programmes were offered to students in the form of study visit organized by
Physics Department to Nehru Science Centre and Nehru Planetarium, Mumbai on 21st
Sept 2005.
Science Association conducted an inter-collegiate Science Festival “SCINIDE 2005” on
20th
, 21st, and 22
nd December 2005. Mr. Datta Dalvi (Mayor of Mumbai) and special
invitee Mr. Mahendra Kumar (Secretary, UGC, New Delhi) were present on this
occasion.
Botany Department organized one day workshop on Biomedical Waste Management in
assosciation with Bhartiya Agro Industries Foundation (BAIF) and Ministry of
Environment, New Delhi.
Keeping in view the goals of the education to offer educational programs that will blend
creativity, analytical skills and career – oriented learning, the Vikas Career College
(VCC), sister institution, offers following career oriented programs which facilitate inter
disciplinary approach too.

VCC is also working as the study center for YCMOU and Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth
offering the professional courses like BCA and MCA. It has also started the graduate
courses in Arts.
2.New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG)
Various career oriented autonomous courses like Diploma in Fashion Designing, Diploma
in Interior Designing, Diploma in Animation, Diploma in Business Management, Diploma
in Industrial Software Development were started by Vikas Career College, the sister
institution of our college.
3.Innovations in curricular design and transaction
The institution arranged various industrial visits, exhibitions, educational excursions for
the students. Our ex-student has his own transport office in the campus, and makes
transport facilities available at the time of industrial visits, excursions.
Our central library arranges book exhibitions periodically in the library. The college had
organized a book exhibition on 5th
Dec 2005. It was visited by the students, teachers as
well as the public in the vicinity.
The college conducted an educational trip to Nehru Planetorium where a lecture on
Einstein and Cosmology by Dr. Jayant Narlikar was scheduled for Physics Department

on 21/09/2005.Both the staff and the students attended the lecture and were benefited by
the same in terms of knowledge.
Guidance lectures in various subjects for T.Y.B.Sc./B.A./B.Com. students were
conducted to help them excel in University Examinations. Annexure - A
The Department of Biotechnology had organized industrial training for students in

5.Examination reforms implemented
Examinations are conducted on behalf of the University of Mumbai as per the rules and
regulations of the University.
The college conducts a preliminary examination for the final year students, modeled on
the university pattern, around one month before the University examination. The students
are then given feedback and general guidelines to better their performance.
Some departments conduct periodic tests in their respective subjects for each class in the
form of open book test, weekend test, objective type test etc. to improve the academic
performance of the students. Question bank for viva-voce of practical examination is
provided to students.
Examination Time-Table for first year and second year term end examinations are
arranged in such a manner that the students get one day preparatory leave for each paper.

National Graduate Physics Exam (NGPE) was conducted by Physics Department on
22/01/2006 for the students.

Mr. Navnitlal R. Valania passed CSIR-UGC NET Examination for Lectureship in life
Sciences in June 2006.

To keep the faculty updated about developments in their subjects, the college always

The N.S.S. unit conducted several activities as mentioned in Annexure F
Organised the event „Succour in Time of Need‟ for distributing help packages to 26th
July
2005 deluge affected students. These help packages were distributed at the hands of Smt.
Vidya Raut , CEO, Vidya Vikas Education Society.
In order to make life environment friendly, the N.S.S unit had initiated the tree
plantation on 12th
August,2005 which was inaugurated by Shri. S.G.Deshmukh, Principal
of the college.
The N.S.S Unit was involved in traffic control during Ganesh Immersion. .

To facilitate water supply for the residents of the Wangni, during summer season, period
acute shortage of water, N.S.S. students of the college made water harvesting during their
annual camp from 22nd
to 31st December,2005 at Wangni.

As per the workload, staff is recruited for newly created posts due to the introduction of
new course or by natural expansion. Similarly, vacancies created due to resignation,
superannuation, leave vacancies are filled up regularly.

Help to Deluge Affected Students Community : At the time of deluge in Mumbai on 26th
July, 2005, books and stationery materials were distributed to the deluge victims by the
college as follows. Book Bank scheme has also been extended to these deluge affected
students.

Library Reading Hall: Library reading hall is kept open on all holidays and Sundays and
during the examination period, the library timings are extended for their preparation for
examination.
New Course: M.B.A. course in distance mode has been introduced by the centres of

University,Pune for which the college is a study centre. The library services are extended
to them with reading room facility and home lending facility.
Guest lecture on Library Information with special reference to e-resources by Shri
Mahendran N. Jadhav (Assistant Librarian, I.I.T.) was organized on 5th
Dec 2005.A large
number of students were benefited by this lecture.
Services like news paper clipping, curriculum support, inter library loan, and wall paper
magazine were introduced.
Library membership and reading room facilities are extended to ex-students and the
students of sister institutions.
The library is situated on the first floor of the main building and it is open from 8:00am to
10:00pm on working days and on holidays it remains open from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

23. Courses in which students’ assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on
student feedback
Assessment of teachers performance is made in all courses. The shortcomings if any are
reported to the concern teacher. Principal and Head of Department provides necessary
guidelines for improvement in performance. The implementation of suggested
improvement is reviewed by the Principal in the informal meetings with the class
representative and Head of the Department.

Unit cost of education including salary = Rs. 8264.30 per student.
Unit cost of education excluding salary = Rs. 2139.91 per student.

No specific software is installed for performing these functions; however they are
performed with the help of computers.
26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities
Telephone Facility : PCO is located near the canteen.
The institution has an audio visual learning center for project presentation, conducting
seminars and guest lectures. The center has a capacity of around 100 participants at a
time. The center is well equipped with sound system, LCD and computer with internet
facility. The center has collaborated with Y.C.M.O.U., Nasik for Edusat supported
programmes.
The college has its auditorium with the accomodation capacity of 450 students at a time
and a conference- cum- media room with all supportive facilities like computer, LCD,
OHP, sound system etc. where seminars, guest lectures, project presentations, inter
collegiate competitions, orientation programmes and workshops are conducted by the
institution.
The institution has augmented the infrastructure to keep pace with its academic growth in
the following manner:
To meet the need of the newly introduced courses, the classrooms earlier
occupied by the school were vacated by shifting the school to the adjacent
municipal corporation building.

Information Technology and Biotechnology laboratories have been enriched with
additional equipments. Amount spent on the laboratory is Rs.10,95,369/- and additional
equipments worth Rs.102514/- were purchased during this year.
28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non-teaching staff and students.
Almost all the teachers are computer savvy and have their own desktop/laptop computers
and if at all they require any guidance, it is provided by the teachers from the Dept. of
Information Technology .
Prof. Mrs. Seema Rahul conducts computer and internet training for our non-teaching
staff members. Since most of the administrative staff are in the age group between 35 and
40 years, they have been trained effectively in the use of computer .
We offer B.Sc. and M.Sc.degree courses in the subject of Information Technology.
Similarly at S.Y.B.Com.and T.Y.B.Com., we offer computer as an optional subject.
The students in the Science stream are encouraged to present their in-house projects
through power point presentation.
They are encouraged to use internet by prescribing addresses of websites for paper
presentations and seminars in the classroom.
The teachers provide their e-mail ids to the students so that an online academic
interaction becomes possible.
The library provides guidance for MS-CIT examination.
Internet facilities are provided in the computer laboratory, library, administrative office
and in the U.G.C. Resource center. Teaching and non-teaching staff can access the
internet facilities at all said places however access to internet facilities for students is
allowed at computer laboratories and in library only.

29. Financial aid to students
Facility of paying fees in easy installments is provided to needy students.
Book bank scheme is made available to the underprivileged students.
All students are insured for accident under group insurance by United Insurance Ltd.
In the Dept. of Information Technology, selected students are provided with free
advanced training during vacation.
30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association
Alumni Meet was organised on 23rd
January 2006. Prof. Anil Chaubal (Controller of
Examinations , Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) was the chief guest of
the function.
Alumni provide assistance as coach in sports and NSS activities.
31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association
We do not have any formal parents-teachers‟ association; however on the following
occasions teachers meet the parents.
Felicitation of meritorious students along with their parents.
Unfair means enquiry committee meetings.
Meeting with the parents of defaulters.
Blood donation camp and other such social activities.
Meeting with the parents of the N.S.S. students.
In certain circumstances, parents are invited for discussion or counseling in order
to find solutions to the problems faced by individual students.

In the meeting, teachers provide feedback to parents about the performance of their
wards. Similarly, parents also provide very useful information about their wards, their
family background…etc. which is very useful in making teaching more student centric.
Parents‟ supportive approach helps us to implement disciplinary measures, attendance
policies in positive manner. Their suggestions are useful while introducing a new course
and new subjects in the college.
32. Health services
Awareness about bird flu was created among the students through a workshop on Solid
Waste Management, with special reference to the bio-medical waste on 11th
March,2006.
Dr. Deepashri Desai,a faculty from veterinary college, was the resource person.
Blood donation camp was organised by the NSS unit of the college in association with
Red Cross, E.S.I.S. blood bank on 16th
January 2006.
The N.S.S volunteers actively participated in AIDS awareness rally organized by the
University of Mumbai at R. N. Jhunjhunwala College and won second prize in the street
play competition with the same theme.
The N.S.S. unit joined the polio immunization campaign of the municipal corporation of
Greater Mumbai and conducted polio vaccination camps on 28th
August and 25th
September, 2005 at Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli.
Nutritional recipe competition was organised as a part of SCINIDE, an intercollegiate
Science festival of the college.
Dr.Datta Samant Free MedicalAdvisory Centre offered preliminary medical assistance
and advice to the students, teachers as well as parents.

33. Performance in sports activities
Annual Sports Tournaments were organized on 5th
, 6th
and 7th
January 2006.
Various intercollegiate and intra class competitions were conducted in the college for which
three play grounds are available. Well equipped gymkhana is available. Our institution had a
tie-up with Utkarsha Gymnasium located in the Late Ravindra Mhatre Maidan for the
interested students.
34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons
T.A., D.A. was paid as per the University rules and special allowances were given to the
selected candidates.
Cash prizes, trophies, medals, track suits, appreciation certificates, etc. were given to
deserving students.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit.
Personal counselling is offered to the students regarding their personal, psychological as
well as academic problems by the members of the Women Development Cell and the
Counselling Cell.
The WDC organizes sessions on topics like health and hygiene, career opportunities for
women, social security of the women etc. Through the workshop on gender sensitization,

the cell tried to create awareness among the students about gender equality so that the girl
students shouldn‟t face any indecent happenings in the college premise.
Guidance lectures are organized for final year students wherein they are guided on the
examination paper pattern, time and stress management, marking system, presentation of
answers etc., at the time of the examinations of the University of Mumbai.
37. Placement services provided to students
Three students from the Dept. of Biotechnology, namely, Mr. Hemant Pabrekar, Mr.
Aditya Bapat and Mr. Pramod Chavan were recruited as trainees by ROSSARI
BIOTECH in March 2005.
Miss. Thakur Bhagyashri Prabhakar, Mr. Choukekar Prashant Shivaji, and Miss Patil
Abhilasha Ashok, were selected for the project work by YOGESHWAR Chemical Ltd.
Practical training was given to our student, Ms. Priyanka D. Shahare by Pfizer Limited.
Mr. Sadanand Palekar and Mr. Sanjay Gawade from the Dept. of Biotechnology
completed their vocation industrial microbiology training from PADMAJA
AEROBIOLOGICAL (P) LTD.
15 days industrial training was given to Ms. Radhika Sonalkar, Ms. Davitha Nambiar and
Mr. Shraddha Mehta by COLOR-CHEM LIMITED,Thane.
In collaboration with Nirmal Lifestyle Ltd.,Mulund, our students from the Dept. of IT
completed IT project in Programming and Web Designing.

38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff
Prof.Mrs.Shubhada Deshpande, faculty from the Dept. of English, organized training
programmes for non teaching staff wherein they were guided on the skills necessary for
writing and speaking correct and good English.
Prof.Mrs. Seema Rahul, faculty from the Dept. of Information Technology, organized
computer training programmes for the non teaching staff wherein they were guided on
use of computers, internet and recent developments therein.
Mrs. Dhasal Sunita Vinod (Office Superintendent) and Mr. Tivarekar Damodar Mangesh
(Head Clerk) of the college attended one day workshop for non-teaching staff organized
by Rizvi College, Mumbai on 21st January 2006.
Mr. Parte Sandeep Kashinath (Clerk) completed B.Com from Yashwantrao Chavan Open
University in May 2006.
39. Healthy practices of the institution
Following activities are conducted:
We celebrate 15th
August and 26th
January. The attendance is made compulsory
on that day.
Every day, before the first lecture, the national song is played.
The birth and death anniversaries of the national leaders are celebrated in the
college.
Eminent personalities from the literary world are invited to deliver lectures.
A periodic wall paper magazine is published by the students under the guidance of the
teachers.

Services of the doctor and first aid facility are provided to the students by Dr. Datta
Samant Free Medical Advisory Center.
Quantitative record of the daily attendance of the students of the entire college with
complete details of the attendance of boys and girls is maintained. Defaulters‟ record is
maintained for every month and it is reported to the parents twice in the year.
Newspaper headlines are displayed on the notice board near the entrance.
40. Linkages developed with National/ International, academic/research bodies
Institutional membership of the British Council Library (BCL) has been taken to enable
the teachers and students to avail the books from BCL.
A workshop on Biomedical Waste Management was conducted in assosciation with
Bharatiya Agro Industries Foundation and Ministry of Environment, New Delhi.
“LOK HITDHARA 2005” was organized by the institute in association with
Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika, Fire Brigade, FDA and Loksatta, on Disaster
Management , Food and Drug Adulteration etc., for students and public awareness on
12th
, 16th
December, 2005.
Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) has its authorized study
centre in the college premises.

Mr. Baban Mamlekar (Peon) secured second prize in Aarti Decoration competition at 3rd
Inter-collegiate cultural and sports events conducted by Nagindas Khandwala College of
Commerce, Arts and Management Studies and Shantaben Nagindas Khandwala College
of Science during December 2005.

1) Tree Plantation: On 12th
August, 2005,the NSS unit of the college had undertaken the
programme of tree plantation in the college campus with the help of 30 NSS volunteers
of the college.
2) Cleanliness Drive: The program of cleanliness drive in the college was undertaken from
31st August 2005 to 3
rd September 200 . On 30
th August, one group presented a street
play on “Need and Importance of Keeping College Campus Clean” to create awareness
among the masses.
3) Pulse Polio immunization:162 NSS volunteers of the college joined the pulse polio
immunization programme of the municipal corporation of greater Mumbai on 26th
August, 2005, 28th
August, 2005, 23rd
August,2005 and 25th
September,2005 in some
areas of municipal jurisdiction.
4) AIDS Awareness Rally and Street Plays: On 2nd
December 2005,a rally was organized
in association with the NSS unit of Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College on behalf of the
University of Mumbai.
The NSS volunteers of the college participated in the poster making competition on this
occasion and won second prize in it.
5) Poster Competition, Essay Competition: On 3rd
December 2005, the NSS unit
organized an inter class essay competition on AIDS . Total 190 students, including the
NSS volunteers and other students in the college, in which 193 contestants participated.
6) AIDS Awareness Exhibition:The NSS unit organized an exhibition on AIDS from 5th
December 2005 to 7th
December 2005 to create an awareness about the disease.
7) Group Discussion on AIDS: On 7th
December 2005, a group discussion session with the
help of slide-show was arranged for the college students.
8) Aids Awareness Rally and Street Plays: 170 volunteers participated in a rally in
Kannamwar Nagar 1 and 2, Swayambhu Hanuman slum and Tagore Nagar area
organized by the NSS unit of the college on 8th
and 9th
December 2005 .
9) International Literacy Day: On 9th
Sept.2005, the unit celebrated “Literacy Day” with
169 volunteers participating in an awareness rally and street plays in order to create
awareness about the importance of literacy among the masses.
10) Lecture Session on Age Care: On 28th
Sept. 2005, a lecture session on “Age Care” with
major emphasis on health, security, goals and achievements etc. to enlighten the college
students.
11) Blood Donation Drive: As it is a regular practice, this year also the unit organized blood
donation drive on the 9th
death anniversary of late Dr. Datta Samant,one of the founder
members of the institution, on 16th
January,2006 .This year 308 units of blood collected
by the unit. Red Cross Blood Bank, E.S.I.C. Blood Bank was invited for the blood
collection.
12) Traffic Control Duty During Ganesh Immersion: 177 volunteers of the NSS unit
carried out this program for 4 days. During these four days, our students controlled the
traffic in order to assist the police.

13) Loksatta Lokhit Dhara, 2005 : Under the banner of “Loksatta Lokhit Dhara 2005”, the
NSS unit had undertaken following 3 projects :
I. Disaster Management
II. Human Rights
III. Food and Drugs Adulteration
14) Hiroshima Peace Rally: Every year, the University of Mumbai organizes a Peace Rally
from Azad maidan to Hutatma Chowk on 6th
August 2005 to commemorate Hiroshima
Day. This year 154 volunteers of our NSS unit actively participated in this rally.
15) Peace Day: This programme was organized by Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya at Dadar.
Some volunteers were selected to attend this programme.
