Five Former Trentham Students Offered Oxbridge Places

Anderson Allcock has been offered a place to study Veterinary Science at Cambridge University. During his 5 years at Trentham, Anderson was an outstanding role model for other students, often found helping supporting new year 7 students during lunchtime clubs and during form time. Anderson was actively involved in fundraising at Trentham raising money for “Wear it pink”, Douglas Macmillan and Comic relief. Anderson excelled in all of his subjects, he was dedicated to doing well and attended revision classes regularly.

Aaron Khokar has been offered a place to read Medicine at St. Anne’s, Oxford. Aaron was a committed, hardworking student and an excellent role model for others to follow. Alongside his academic studies was a very talented musician, playing the violin in school concerts and events.

Iesha Lovatt has been offered a place at Oriel College, Oxford, to study German. During her five years at Trentham, Iesha was always an exemplary role model in every aspect. She was involved in all House, Tutor and charity events as an organiser and a participant. Alongside her commitment to academic subjects, where she gained a fantastic set of GCSE results, she was actively involved in creative aspects of school life.

Chloe McCourt has been offered for a place at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, to study Material Science.   She was organised, willing to support the form activities and support other students and was described by her tutor as being, ‘great fun to have in form’. Chloe used her talents across subjects combining them with a work ethic and a drive to succeed that led to a brilliant and truly deserved set of results.”

Finally, Eleanor Washington has also been offered a place at Oxford to study Mathematics. Eleanor was an ambitious and hardworking student who strived to get the best grades possible. She was supportive and proved to be a great role model as a prefect at Trentham. Eleanor was a talented musician, taking an active role in school shows as a confident Oboe, Piano and Guitar player.

It is fantastic to hear about the successes of our former students as they progress, and it is lovely to have been part of their journey; we wish them the best of luck for the future.”

Maths Enrichment

A trip to Keele University took place for Yr10 girls, the aim of which was to increase interest in careers in STEM subjects. There were 160 girls in attendance from around the city, including thirteen from Trentham Academy.

During the afternoon presentations, the girls were asked to create a structure from lolly-sticks, straws and masking tape, which would hold a tennis ball a few cm from the ground. They worked incredibly hard and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

British Northern Gymnastics March 2018

Trentham Academy student success continues, with Kitty and Connie Halket being invited to compete in the British Northern Qualifier on 3rd and 4th March 2018. They have worked extremely hard outside of the academy to get this far and it is an amazing achievement; well done.

Football Refereeing

Joseph Davies (Year 7) has been signed up with Burton Albion Football Club. We look forward to hearing about his successes on the field in the very near future. Excellent news for Joseph, well done.

It is always pleasing to hear about our students taking an active part in sporting activities outside school. Daniel Toft – year 10 - is one such individual. He has assisted as a football referee in several School Games activities this academic year. He is also regularly refereeing games on a Sunday morning in the North Staffs Junior League. Daniel has also officiated at two Stoke City Academy games at Clayton Wood; one as an assistant referee for SCFC vs Birmingham City and one as a referee for SCFC vs Nottingham Forest. (Daniel is pictured above with his team of referees for one of these fixtures)Daniel has also been invited to join the North Staffs Referees Club and now attends their monthly meetings at Hanley Town FC.

Trentham Academy Fixtures

The under 16’s basketball team played St. Joseph’s College before the Christmas break, and for three quarters of the game were in touching distance of their rivals. Unfortunately they eventually lost the game 38 – 14.

Trentham Academy under 14’s team played St. Thomas More Catholic College before the Christmas break. They won the fixture by 34-24, with a very good team performance.

We would like to raise funds for Trentham Academy and we have attached the link to our ‘Goraise’ page, https://www.goraise.co.uk/talent/ . We would like you to register on this and when you do your online shopping, do it through this page. This will create income for the Academy, very much in the way that store loyalty cards work. It costs shoppers no extra but will be extremely valuable for the Academy. Please also share with friends and relatives our unique ‘Goraise’ page. You can also access this from the Academy website. Your support and encouragement with this is warmly welcomed.

The second week of Mock exams is complete and Year 11 are in the last week of exams. They have coped well with the rigors of the new exam system. It is really pleasing to see so many of our students taking advantage of the extra enrichment activities and interventions taking place each week at the Academy.

The first meeting of our PTA (TALENT) will be taking place on the 29th January. It is exciting to see how this group could really bring about changes to the Academy. If you want to get involved or need any further information please email Mrs V Taylor [email protected] or Jo Pearce PTA chair [email protected] .

I will be holding a parents’ drop in coffee morning on the 2nd February at 10.30am. If you would like to come along, please email [email protected] to book a place. This will be a great opportunity to chat about any concerns and successes with us. We look forward to seeing you there.

Our Year 7s last term wrote letters to their primary schools to tell them about their experience and we have received some lovely feedback from Primary Head teachers, who loved to read about the progress the students are making.

Finally, a gentle reminder about our Year 11 subject Parents’ Evening, which takes place on Thursday 1st February.

Best Wishes

Mr Whittingham Headteacher
