Homework Guidance for Y8 Parents and CarersIndependent learnersWe are aiming to develop independent learners and appreciate that this is a skill that develops over time. This booklet contains all of the homework that will be set for term 3 and is broken down into weekly/fortnightly tasks for each subject. Students will be told which subject is set on which day and should record this on the front of this booklet. Teachers will give students the due date when they set the task in lessons and this should be recorded in their planners.

Will my child cope?Homework does not have to be completed at home. PCS offers homework clubs, where students have access to staff support and all the resources they need to complete homework to a high standard. The school and local library are also good spaces to work.

What is Show My Homework? All homework is collated in this booklet but the individual subject sheets have been uploaded to Show my Homework (an online homework calendar that allows students and parents to access the homework teachers have set from any computer). It’s simple. No password is necessary, either click on the link on our school website (www.phcs.org.uk) or go to www.showmyhomework.co.uk/peacehaven.

Can I help?Yes, please do! However this does not mean completing the work for your child! You can help by: Logging on to www.showmyhomework.co.uk/peacehaven and looking at student

planners each evening to see what homework is set, the due date and what additional support material has been offered.

Providing a table, chair and quiet place to work – we know this can be difficult in homes with young children. If this is the case please encourage your child to attend after school clubs.

Showing an interest in what your child is doing and checking your child is presenting their work carefully.

Checking your child does not spend too little or too long on tasks, students should work for a maximum of 1hr a night on homework.

Contacting your child’s mentor if you have any concerns about homework.

Students with a special educational need in literacy should be encouraged to use a variety of methods to record their ideas including; mind maps, audio recording or an adult scribe.
