One of the best young jazz singers in the country today. She's the Real McCoy." “She is a fabulous singer, one of the best on the scene,” said drummer and event producer Bart Weisman. “It’s always a great joy to back her. We always have a lot of fun. She has some terrific arrangements of jazz standards, which were written by her husband, Marshall Wood, who plays bass for Tony Bennett.” Joining Byrne for this concert are Joe Barbato on piano, Todd Baker on bass, and Weisman on drums. Jazz Singer Donna Byrne in Concert at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Jazz singer Donna Byrne will perform songs from the Great American Songbook on Saturday, September 19, at 7:30 PM at Cotuit Center for the Arts.

Jazz Times called Byrne “one of the best singers currently on the scene, one who approaches her lyrics with both intelligence and swinging time,” and Tony Bennett said, "It doesn't get any better than this . . . One of the best young jazz singers in the country today. She's the Real McCoy."

“She is a fabulous singer, one of the best on the scene,” said drummer and event producer Bart Weisman. “It’s always a great joy to back her. We always have a lot of fun. She has some terrific arrangements of jazz standards, which were written by her husband, Marshall Wood, who plays bass for Tony Bennett.”

Music has always been an important part of Byrne’s life. Encouraged by her father to sing and perform at the age of two, developed a love of music. She credits jazz trumpeter Herb Pomeroy and pianist Dave McKenna for inspiring and encouraging her to become a performer.

Byrne has released eight critically-acclaimed CDs. Her powerful, versatile voice, energetic personality, and life experiences give her music an almost spiritual feel, a mix of talent and grace.

She has performed at top venues on both the East and West coasts, including the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, the Willard Hotel and Blues Alley in Washington, DC, the Baltimore-Washington Jazz Festival, the King of France Tavern in Annapolis, several tours in Hawaii with the Benny Goodman Tribute Orchestra. She has headlined at the Provincetown Jazz Festival, performs every summer at Weisman’s concert series at the Provincetown Art Association Museum, and regularly performs at numerous other locations on the Cape.

Byrne was voted by Boston Magazine "Best of Boston" for jazz vocals and has been nominated multiple times for Boston Music Awards' best jazz vocalist.

“If anyone has not heard of Donna Byrne, or heard her recently,” said Weisman, “I highly recommend that they come out and take in the concert.”
