Today is both Good Shepherd Sunday and Mission Sunday here at Saint James.

We are delighted to have Missionary Dan Schmelzer as our guest preacher. Together with his wife Patty, Dan founded Capstone Ministries in Kisumu, Kenya in 2005.

They work to reconcile street children with God and with their families. So far they have reconciled 308 boys with their families.

THE NURSERY is not staffed, but it is open during the service. As a courtesy to others, if you keep your child with you, and your child becomes restless during the service, please take him or her temporarily to the narthex or the nursery. (The service is broadcast on the TV in both locations.)

SPECIAL POCKET HEARING SYSTEMS are available from the ushers for anyone desiring an amplified broadcast of the service.

LARGE PRINT COPIES OF THE SERVICE ARE AVAILABLE IN THE NARTHEX.

Pastor Albrecht’s Bible Class meets on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the Fireside Room to continue discussing The Remarkable Gospel of Mark. This week we consider Jesus’ miracle of calming the storm. How could Jesus sleep through a storm that scared His disciples to death? When the disciples woke Jesus up, what did they expect Him to do? What does Jesus imply that His disciples should have done? Do we listen to Jesus the same way the wind and the waves did? As usual, your questions and comments are

encouraged. All are welcome. Audio CDs will be available at the Welcome Center, or you can listen to the recording on our web site or download it and listen to it at your convenience.

PASTOR STADLER’S CHAPEL BIBLE CLASS ON THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS meets on Thursday, April 30, at 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Last Thursday we read through the “Model Prayer of the Instructor” which expressed some unexpected

thoughts about repentance and justification that almost sounded Christian, even though the document was probably written over a 150 years before the time of Jesus. This Thursday, we examine 4QMMT which is hotly debated among Dead Sea Scroll scholars. We examine whether it is talking about the same “works of the law” that Paul argues

against in Romans and Galatians. You are welcome to participate even if you have not attended any of the previous sessions. We are discovering that as we study what these Jews believed about certain issues, it gives us a chance to ask: “So, what do we believe, and why?” Your questions and suggestions are encouraged, or you can feel free to just

AS A PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP you are invited to read Psalm 23, which is found on page 415 of the pew Bible.

PEOPLE TO PRAY FORLet us remember to pray for some of our veteran members:

Bill Rahn, Lorraine Schofield, Laverne Smith, Irene Steenberg, Don Stephan

MISSIONS TO PRAY FORThis week please pray for Pastor Alex Krongolm, senior pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Petrozavodsk, and his wife, Nadia, as they work with the young

people in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia.

FLOWERSThe flowers in the chancel vases are given in loving memory of Howard Adams,

provided by his family.

If you would like to order FLOWERS to be placed in the chancel, please contact Altar Guild Flower Chairwoman Shirley Grabuski at 651-457-2529.

LIVING AS A LOCAL MISSIONARY: When volunteering somewhere, invite a neighbor to come with you.

TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL students learn the story of “Paul’s First Missionary Journey.” Just as God sent Paul and Barnabas to spread the Gospel, so today He sends pastors to preach the Gospel, baptize, and to administer the Lord’s Supper. Consider discussing, “Who gave Paul directions on where to travel? What was Paul’s message?”

HONORING OUR YOUNG ADULTS: Please take a moment to write a message to one of our High School seniors who are about to embark on their next stage of life. These youth are from the 2011 Confirmation Class, some of them have been lifelong members of Saint James. We will be saying special prayers for these individuals during the services on Sunday, May 10th and Monday night, May 11th. Please pray for these important members of our Saint James Family in all of their future endeavors!

SAINT JAMES PHOTO DIRECTORY: The photo directory is in the final stages! We are accepting family pictures through TOMORROW, April 27. You can email a copy to [email protected] or drop one off at the office and we’ll scan it for you. If you don’t want your contact information (address, phone number, email) included in the directory, please call the church office at 651-457-9232 as soon as possible.
