BP has been investing in Vietnam since 1989 and is represented in the upstream by BP Exploration and in the downstream by BP Oil, BP Solar, Air BP and BP Chemicals.

In late 1992, BP embarked on an exploration program in the Nam Con Son Basin, located some 370 km offshore Vietnam. This resulted in the discovery of the Lan Tay and Lan Do gas fields located in licensed Block 06.1. Later, BP discovered further reserves in Blocks 5.2 and 5.3 namely Hai Thach, Moc Tinh, Kim Cuong Tay fields.

Since then BP, PetroVietnam (PV) and other foreign partners have worked together in the USD 1.3 billion Nam Con Son Gas Project to successfully develop the gas reserves in Block 06.1. As the gas lies offshore, a 400 km pipeline is constructed to transport the gas to the Phu My Power Complex located south east of Ho Chi Minh City - the largest thermal power development in Vietnam. A gas terminal has also been built at Dinh Co, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province to process the gas before it is dispatched to the power plants. First gas is expected by the end of 2002.

BP Oil is actively investing in Vietnam through a joint venture agreement with Petrolimex called BP Petco Ltd. BP Petco has built and operates a 50.000 ton/year grease and lubricant blending plant and has a growing share of the Vietnamese lubricants market. Additionally, BP

Air is a major fuel supplier for Vietnam Airlines outside of Vietnam.

BP Solar has been growing its activities towards the aim of being a total solution provider. In Vietnam solar modules have been supplied for communication, vaccine refrigeration, marine navigation aids… and BP Solar is currently working to bring power to people in remote areas through infrastructure development

BP Chemicals is expanding its business in Vietnam, particularly through sales of polyethylene and solvents.

Töø ñoù BP, Toång Coâng ty Daàu Khí Vieät Nam (PetroVietnam) vaø moät soá coâng ty daàu khí khaùc ñaõ hôïp taùc phaùt trieån Döï Aùn Khí Nam Coân Sôn, khai thaùc khí taïi Loâ 06.1 vôùi toång voán ñaàu tö 1,3 tyû ñoâ la Myõ. Do moû khí naèm ngoaøi khôi, neân caàn phaûi xaây döïng 400 Km ñöôøng oáng ñeå vaän chuyeån khí vaøo bôø vaø cung caáp ñeán khu coâng nghieäp Phuù Myõ, moäât toå hôïp nhieät ñieän lôùn nhaát Vieät Nam, naèm veà phía Ñoâng Nam Thaønh Phoá Hoà Chí Minh. Moät nhaø maùy xöû lyù khí cuõng ñaõ ñöôïc xaây döïng taïi Dinh Coá thuoäc tænh Baø Ròa Vuõng Taàu ñeå xöû lyù khí tröôùc khi ñöa vaøo caùc nhaø maùy ñieän. Cuoái naêm 2002 khí seõ ñöôïc khai thaùc vaø ñöa vaøo söû duïng. BP Xaêng Daàu ñaõ ñaàu tö vaøo Vieät Nam thoâng qua hôïp ñoàng lieân doanh vôùi Petrolimex ñeå thaønh laäp coâng ty BP Petco. BP Petco ñaõ xaây döïng vaø vaän haønh moät nhaø maùy cheá bieán môõ vaø daàu nhôøn vôùi coâng xuaát 50,000 taán/naêm. Thò phaàn cuûa BP Petco taïi Vieät Nam ñang taêng leân khoâng ngöøng. Theâm vaøo ñoù, BP Xaêng daàu Haøng khoâng laø nhaø cung caáp nhieân lieäu phaûn löïc cho caùc maùy bay cuûa Haõng Haøng Khoâng Quoác Gia Vieät Nam ôû caùc saân bay nöôùc ngoaøi.
