Remember the restrictions that kept us from watering the lawn, washing the cars whenever we wanted to, bathing with limited water...not sure how long it was going to last, and wondering what the next desperate measures were going to be? But we prayed and God answered. Not soon after, gas prices hit a record high at over $4.00 per gallon. Remember when $40 in your truck jumped to $90.00 and how that annoying light kept coming on in your car to warn you that you were almost out of gas…again. But we prayed and the prices not only fell, they fell to an all-time low. That brings me to our most recent moment of awe at how God has answered our prayers once again as we so desperately prayed for healing in the lives of our very own members of Victory. God has brought miraculous healings of cancer, back problems, diabetes, chronic headaches and heart trouble, just to name a few. He stopped by in a special way and let us know that he heard our cry. What is the message in all of this? Always remember that God is Faithful! Never forget what He has done and continue constantly praying because God answers prayers and he is specifically answering prayers for our members and believers everywhere. As many North Carolinians enjoyed watching a 1250 pound acorn drop, and celebrated with other festivities of First Night in downtown Raleigh, the Victory family rang in the New Year at our Watch Night service. We rejoiced to see a new year coming in and expressed thanksgiving for all the blessings bestowed upon us during the outgoing year.

Victory family and friends had a wonderful fellowship on New Year’s Eve. We played games, ate delicious food prepared by our talented Hospitality Committee, mingled with our fellow brothers, sisters and visitors, and got acquainted with our newest members.

This celebration was just the beginning of the great things that we believe God has planned for our lives for 2009!

New Year’s Eve

January 18, 2009

The Sunrise Service held annually during Deliverance Cathedral of Love’s Holy Convocation is always an exciting event to attend, and this year was no different.

As they say, the early bird catches the worm, and if you were not an early bird at this well-attended 6 AM service, you probably missed some of the service because you were searching for a parking space in the crowded parking lot.

If there is anything worth getting up for so early on a weekend, the Sunrise Service is definitely it! Pastor Perkins’ message was entitled, “Where He Leads Me, I Will Follow.” What an awesome Word of God!! And we thank God for such an anointed vessel. After a Word like that, you are just not the same!

As always, we enjoyed our time of praise and worship with Bishop Nesbitt and Deliverance Cathedral of Love. We were truly blessed and look forward to our next get-together!

Sunrise At The Cathedral

March 11-13, 2009, Victory Tabernacle was in service with Brighter Hope Christian Fellowship and their Pastor, Reverend Blanzie Williams as they held their Spring Revival. The theme, “Called Back to Holiness,” came from the scripture, II Chronicles 7:14.

Our very own Pastor Perkins preached this three-night revival. On Wednesday, the subject was “But It’s the Set Time,” followed by “I’ve Got to See Him” on Thursday. Pastor Perkins closed the revival on Friday night with the subject “Viva-New Life.”

God blessed tremendously during the revival and once again we enjoyed a wonderful fellowship with Brighter Hope.

Revival In The Land

Have you had the occasion to attend the Hour of Power yet? In years past, you may have called it “Joy Night.” Well, “Joy Night” still exists at Victory Tabernacle Church - each 4th Friday night of the month, and if you have not yet attended this service, you are missing a spiritual treat!

This is your opportunity to enjoy Praise & Worship, to give testimonies of what God is doing in your life, to see what God is doing in the lives of others, and to hear God speak through some of our very own anointed vessels!

During this year we have heard two dynamic messages: Evang. Darlene Chavis - “Your Reward is in Your Seeking!” and Elder Marvin Sanders - “Don’t Forget!” Both were very powerful and inspiring messages!

Be sure to mark your calendar so that you can be in attendance at the next Hour of Power...You don’t want to miss this one!!

Have You Been?

The VTC Leadership Workshop was held on February 2, 2009 at the Golden Coral restaurant located in the Tower Shopping Center. Pastor Perkins was the Facilitator with Elder Johnny Crudup and Sister Virginia McGill participat-ing as presenters. The group participation for this event was outstanding. The workshop was designed to assist leaders in under-standing their primary responsibilities as leaders in VTC, and to equip and challenge these same leaders to go forth in meaningful ministry within VTC. Some of the agenda items discussed included: The Vision of the Min-istry, Your Vision as a Leader; Criteria for Leadership in VTC, and Criteria for Leaders to Implement Within Their Auxiliaries. Mission impossible? Certainly not…! Pastor Perkins gave the VTC leaders their Mission Statement and he stressed to them the importance of understanding that one of the criteria for being an effective leader is “...you lead by your example.” After all, how can you lead another down the path of holiness, unless you are traveling in that direc-tion? Pastor Perking dissected and explained the differences between a vision and a mission. He then shared with the participants VTC’s Vision and Mission Statements.

VTC Vision Statement: To provide a worshipping, teaching and nurturing atmosphere so that individuals can be reconciled to God, grow in their faith in Jesus

Christ, and be trained and equipped for ministry.

VTC Mission Statement: To encourage non-Christians to become Christians and Christians to become more like Christ. We do this through a balance of Evangel-ism, Discipleship, Fellowship, Worship and Service.

The workshop provided an opportunity for group discussions, group participation, as well as a Q&A (question and answer) session. The participants were inspired, motivated, and well informed. They left the workshop energized and excited about the opportunity to share with others; and of course, ready to lead by example.

Praise and Worship Insight by

Elder Johnny Crudup During the month of March, four members of Victory Tabernacle Church were blessed to attend a workshop, “The Priority of Praise and Worship,” at the Raleigh Institute of Biblical Studies, taught by the esteemed Worship Leader and Anointed Psalmist Dr. Ron Kenoly. Elder Johnny Crudup, Minister Kevin Prescott, Sister Tasha Perkins and Sister Anitra Ollison were tremendously inspired during this workshop. The workshop explored all the elements and dynamics of praise and worship in the local church for pastoral leaders, musicians and laity in worship. Various topics were covered during this dynamic workshop which included: Why People Don’t Worship, The Effective Worship Leader, Practical Vocal and Performance Skills, Elements of Worship, and more. Dr. Kenoly opened the workshop on Thursday night by having everyone join him in singing a couple of praise and worship songs. After the songs, he surprised everyone by allowing the participants to take a couple of tests to discover how much they really knew about praise and worship, Biblically. He then challenged all of the praise and worship leaders to make sure that the songs they sing in their churches are Biblically based. Highly impressed with the workshop, Sister Tasha Perkins said, “The workshop was absolutely wonderful! I gained a greater understanding of the importance and the very

essence of how praise and worship enhances church services, and most importantly, how praise and worship enhances people’s lives! Dr. Kenoly is a spirit-filled and gifted teacher, and it was a pleasure to learn and worship with him.” Minister Kevin Prescott said the thing that stood out to him most was… “God created a ritual for worship from the beginning and through worship God gives us commission, plans, vision, and revelations.” And how did Anitra Ollison feel about her participation in the workshop? “The most important thing that I learned from the workshop is that knowing God is something that will require all of my natural life and that of eternity as well. He became an even greater and bigger God to me…,” said Anitra. We thank God for this opportunity to enhance our growth by participating in the Praise and Worship workshop with Dr. Kenoly. We believe that as we become more knowledgeable and grow, those whose lives we touch will grow with us.

Here are some helpful tips for parents to help prevent childhood obesity:

• Lessen the junk food and increase fruits, vegetable, and healthy snacks

• Don’t use food and sweets as rewards

• Watch the foods you eat because your children are watching you

• Make weight control a family affair by walking, dancing, or exercising with your child three or more days a week

• Limit your child’s television, computer, or “gaming” time

• Make sure your child has an annual physical exam

• Give your child daily chores to do at home such as vacuuming, cutting the lawn, and cleaning his/her room

• Talk with your child about good nutrition

• Encourage your child to increase water and lessen sodas and sugar beverages

Lifestyle changes can be challenging, especially when you are busy. But if the entire family works together, there will be success. Remember, “We can do all things through Christ.”

You hear a lot in the news about the epidemic of childhood obesity and wonder what this is. Obesity (a condition of being extremely overweight) in children increases the risk of heart disease, bone disease, kidney disease, and many other conditions. Obesity also tends to set students up as social targets for bullying and harassment by peers. Poor eating habits and lack of daily exercise during childhood can impact a child’s health for life. Fortunately, a healthy home environment can promote healthy habits. Parents have a profound influence on children by promoting certain values and attitudes, by rewarding and allowing specific behaviors, and by serving as the primary role model. Proverbs 22:6 gives parents the authority to “Train up the child in the way s/he should go, and when s/he is old, s/he will not depart from it.” As policy makers of the home, parents are to not only train or develop a child’s spiritual well being, but also foster the physical, mental, and emotional development.
