Attitude towards Women should Change : Prof. D.N.TripathiThe two day UGC-SAP National Seminar on “Moving towards Gender

Equality – India’s Experience“ was held on January 20 - 21, 2006 at theDepartment of Economics. Attending the Inaugural Programme as Chief GuestICHR Director Prof. D.N. Tripathi said our attitude towards women shouldchange. Though they are biologically different from men, if given cooperationthey would excel in all fields. In the current era of globalization, women arepresented as commodities and values are neglected.

President of A.P. Lady Entrepreneurs Association Mrs.K. Rama Devi, delivered the keynote address on “Gender Inequalities in India – Tasks Ahead.“Despite special laws enacted to promote gender justice, the status of womencontinues to be a cause of concern across the globe. Today as we stand at thebeginning of the 21st Century, we are still unable to boast of a society wherethere is a total gender equality. Sharp decline in juvenile sex ratio, high gendergap in literacy levels, increasing incidence of crime against women are majorfactors of concern. Education is key to empowerment. Empowering womensocially, economically and politically would add to economic growth and overalldevelopment, she added.
