Palacios hay muchos, pero ninguno como Viana.

Porque en Viana, tras las sobrias paredes blancas,

apenas salpicadas de espacios abiertos que nos dejan

adivinar el interior, se concreta, como en ningún

otro edificio de Córdoba y Andalucía, la delicia de

los patios. En el Palacio de Viana podemos hacer un recorrido histórico y sensorial de los patios cordobeses sin salir del mismo edificio.

Patio de las Rejas

Patio de 1624, semiabierto al exterior y rematado por tres grandiosas rejas que le dan nombre, es uno de los más populares de Viana. Comunicaba visualmente el palacio con el exterior, para dar fe del prestigio y poderío de sus ocupantes. Posee recios ejempla-res de cítricos en espaldera y vistosas macetas de cineraria marítima.

Patio de Los Gatos

Uno de los espacios más desconocidos y peculiares de Viana, se trata del tipo de patio vecinal documentado más antiguo de Córdoba. En su origen per-tenecía a las Casas de la Puentezuela de Tres Caños, viviendas destinadas a alquiler siguiendo la tradición medieval, y así siguieron hasta mediados del siglo XVIII, una vez anexionadas a Viana. Es un ejemplo típico de patio compartido, de carácter popular y humilde.

Courtyard of the Bar

This courtyard, which dates back to 1624, half open to the outside and finished with three very large bars that give it its name, is one of the most popular at Viana. It visually connects the Palace with the outside world, de-monstrating the prestige and power of its occupants. It has sturdy citrus trees on trellises and colourful flowerpots containing silver ragwort.

Courtyard of The Cats

One of the least well known and most peculiar areas at Viana, its style is that of the oldest documented type of neighbourhood courtyard in Cordoba. It originally belonged to the Puen-tezuela deTres Caños houses, which following the Medieval tradition were designed to be rented out, and this con-tinued until the mid-18th century when they were annexed by Viana. This is a typical example of a shared courtyard, one for the public and very humble.

a través del tiempo. Una casa viva habitada hasta

finales del siglo XX por familias nobles y, sin embargo,

de gran sabor popular. El patio cordobés, heredero de

la tradición romana y árabe, tiene en Viana su más

amplia representación histórica.

Patio de Recibo

El actual punto de acceso a Viana es un patio renacentista de especial singu-laridad por su forma arquitectónica y por su finalidad simbólica, destinado a impresionar a los visitantes y a señalar el estatus de los dueños del palacio. Una variada y abundante composi-ción floral, así como diversas piezas arqueológicas, completan la estampa de entrada al palacio.

Jardín

Pulmón verde de unos 1.200 m2, la creación de este espacio responde al deseo del VII Marqués de Villaseca (s. XVIII) de dotarse de un jardín, siguiendo la moda de los nobles de su época. Entre sus callejones de boj des-taca una encina de más de 25 metros de altura y cuatro siglos de vida.

Five centuries of history can be found at Viana. Five centuries during which courtyards have always been the main feature of this building which has been growing almost organically as a result of the extensions and renovations taking place over time.A living house which until the late 20th century was

home to noble families, but which still retains a great

popular atmosphere. Nowhere demonstrates the

history of the Cordoban courtyard, passed down from

Roman and Arab times, as well as Viana.

Reception Courtyard

The current point of access to Viana is a Renaissance courtyard which is par-ticularly original due to its architecture and its symbolic purpose, designed to impress visitors and show the status of the owners of the palace. A diverse and abundant floral composition and various archaeological pieces complete the pattern of the entrance to the palace.

Garden

Green area of 1,200 m2, this space was created as a result of the desire of the 7th Marquis of Villaseca (18th century) to have a garden in keeping with the fashion followed by the nobles at that time. Among its boxwood pathways the outstanding feature is a 25 metre tall Holm oak which has been growing for four centuries.

Patio de los Naranjos

Patio del siglo XV, fue la antigua puerta de entrada al palacio. De reminiscen-cias árabes por el uso de árboles fruta-les, algunos de ellos centenarios, el

protagonismo del agua y su ambien-te intimista. La glicinia, originaria de China, es una de sus plantas más destacadas.

From the Medieval courtyard of neighbours, the Courtyard of

the Cats; to the Renaissance courtyards, symbols of power and

ancestry, such as the Reception Courtyard and the Courtyard

of the Bars; the representative of Baroque Cordoba in the

Courtyard of the Archive; the refinement of the romantic

garden in the Courtyard of the Madama and in the Viana

Garden; the working courtyards for use by the servants in the

Courtyard of the Gardeners, the Courtyard of the Pool and

the Courtyard of the Well; the courtyards there simply to be

contemplated, such as the silent Courtyard of the Chapel; the

Courtyard of the Oranges

This courtyard, dating back to the 15th century, was the old entrance to the palace. Reminiscent of Arabic times due to the use of fruit trees, some centuries

old, the main features are water and an intimate atmosphere. The wisteria, originally from China, is one of the most interesting plants.

un nuevo recorrido histórico de los patios, formatos

multimedia interactivos, información sobre rutas

temáticas de los patios de Córdoba, visitas nocturnas

guiadas a los patios y al palacio.

Patio de los Naranjos de noche

Las visitas nocturnas al Palacio de Viana nos permiten vivir los patios en el encanto de la penumbra, cuando los sentidos se agudizan y nos ofrecen nue-vas perspectivas del entorno. Durante la visita nocturna se accede también a

las estancias del palacio, mediante una visita guiada. Es una oportunidad para hacer el recorrido entre interior y exte-rior del palacio y recrear de una forma más clara cómo vivieron sus habitantes a través de los siglos.

In Spring 2012, the courtyards at Viana Palace will open to the public in a new and renovated form. Thanks to an elaborate process of reinterpreting

heritage, visitors can discover all the elements they

need to live the Cordoban courtyard experience:

a surprising visitor reception centre, a new historical

tour of the courtyards, interactive multimedia

formats, information about themed routes for the

courtyards of Cordoba and guided night visits to the

courtyards and the palace.

Courtyard of the Oranges at night

Night visits to Viana Palace allow us to experience the courtyards at dusk, when the senses are sharpened and offer us new ways of appreciating our surroundings. The night visit also inclu-des a guided tour of the rooms inside

the palace. This is an opportunity to enjoy a tour of both inside and outside the palace and to better understand how its inhabitants would have lived throughout the centuries.

Patio interior, de ambiente sosegado y nombrado así por la existencia de una capilla anexa, hoy desaparecida. Es un pequeño museo arqueológico, por la cantidad de piezas que lo adornan. El techo vegetal formado por la frondo-sidad de los naranjos, los húmedos los helechos y el resto de plantas ayudan a crear el aire de tranquilidad e intros-pección de este patio.

ContraportadaPatio de la Madama

Detalle de la ninfa-surtidor del patio de la Madama, uno de los más pintorescos de Viana y de toda Córdoba. La arqui-tectura vegetal de cipreses recortados que enmarca el surtidor recuerda a los jardines franceses. Paredes adornadas con jazmines, naranjos y buganvillas aportan color y olor al conjunto.

Internal courtyard, with a peaceful atmosphere and named due to the pre-sence of an old annexed Chapel that no longer exists today. The sheer number of pieces that decorate it make this a small archaeological museum. The roof formed by the greenery of the orange trees, the wet ferns and the rest of the plants help to create an air of tranquilli-ty and introspection.

Picture of the nymph fountain in the Courtyard of the Madama, one of the most picturesque in Viana and in the whole of Cordoba. The architecture of the shaped cypress plants that frame the fountain brings to mind French gardens. Walls adorned with jasmine, orange trees and bougainvillea give colour and scent to the whole.
