VET credit into VCE & VCAL

VET in School’s programs are fully recognised for both VCE and VCAL credit.

VCE students:

VET subjects are recognised for credit within the Unit 1 & 2 and Unit 3 & 4 VCE structure.Most VET subjects contribute to an ATAR like a VCE subject would, exceptions areAutomotive and Building and Construction and Agriculture.

Scored VET subjects provide a study score to contribute towards the ATAR if studentscomplete SACs and the exam in their second year - the same as any other VCE subject!

Non-scored VET subjects (without SACs or exams) may also contribute to the ATAR as a5th or 6th subject by adding 10% of the average of the students four best study scores

VCAL students:

VET subjects are recognised for credit towards Foundation, Intermediate and Senior VCALcertificates

Year 2 (continuing students only)

Program Structure - This program is delivered off campus by Sunraysia TAFE. Students will be required to attend TAFE for one half day each week. This day will combine theory and practical work on a TAFE farm. Visits to other local farms, agricultural product suppliers and field days will be incorporated into the program. Students will need to complete both years to obtain the full qualification. Statements of Attainment will be issued to students with partial completion.

Year 2 Areas studied will include: assisting with pressurised irrigation systems, caring for livestock, ooperational maintenance of machinery, identifying and treating plants, weeds and disorders, recording production data and participating in environmental work practices.

Structured Work Placement: Students will be expected to undertake structured work placement.

Special Requirements: Students will require work boots for practical activities.

Cost: Approximately $250 course materials.

VCE & VCAL Credit VCE: Students who complete all first & second year units may be eligible for Unit 3 & 4 VCE credit.

There is no Scored Assessment/Exams for this subject however VCE students may receive a 10% increment towards their ATAR.

Certificate II in Agriculture provides students with the knowledge and skills that will enhance their employment prospects in the agriculture industry or as a pathway to further studies at TAFE, Universities or Agricultural Colleges.

Pre-apprenticeship (partial) Year 1 (Year 10, 11 or 12 students)

The VET Building program is a pre-employment course for students wishing to pursue a career in the Building and Construction industry through a trade apprenticeship or higher education.

Program Structure This program is delivered by Swan Hill College as part of the students regular timetable as 2 double lessons and 1 single lesson each week. Students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for Units completed. This course is offered as partial completion of the certificate (2 years of 3 year program). Final year may be completed at a TAFE or students may move directly into an apprenticeship.

Year 1 First year students will complete the Construction Induction Card (white card) and Level 2 First Aid. Areas of study include Workplace Health and Safety, building industry calculations, quality principles, workplace plans, levelling, installing door and window frames, external cladding and demolition.

Structured Work Placement: Students will be expected to undertake structured work placement. Construction Induction Card course must be completed prior to commencing work placement.

Special Requirements: Students will require work boots for Structured Work Placement.

The course is based around work in aged care, disability care, childcare, family and youth services but may also lead toward career paths into fields such as Nursing or Allied Health.

Program Structure This program is delivered by Swan Hill College as part of the students regular timetable as 2 double lessons and 1 single lesson each week. Students will need to complete both years to obtain the full qualification. Statements of Attainment will be issued to students with partial completion.

It may also be a pathway to an apprenticeship or further education at a TAFE or specialized beauty college. Program Structure - This program is delivered off campus Students will be required to attend an external training provider for one half day each week. Year1 Areas of study include Workplace Health and Safety, provide shampoo and basin services, apply hair colour products, dry hair to shape, braid hair, greet and prepare clients for services, conduct financial transactions, produce visual merchandise displays.

Structured Work Placement Students will be expected to undertake structured work placement.

Special Requirements: A compulsory information evening will be held prior to course commencement. Students will required to purchase a kit of tools to enable them to practice their skills.

Cost: Approximately $550 (subject to change by course provider) for kit /course materials costs to be paid prior to course commencement.

Program Structure This program is delivered by Swan Hill College as part of the students regular timetable as 2 double lessons and 1 single lesson each week. Students will need to complete both years to obtain the full qualification. Statements of Attainment will be issued to students with partial completion.

Year 1 Areas of study include Workplace Health & Safety, using food preparation equipment, preparing and presenting simple dishes, using hygienic food practices, maintaining quality of perishable items. Students will gain their Food Handler’s certificate.

Structured Work Placement: Students will be expected to undertake structured work placement. Students may be required to assist with events to meet service period requirements.

Approximate cost: Food/Materials $150, work books $100. Excursion: approximately $350.

SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport & Recreation

Year 2 (continuing students only)

Program Structure This program is delivered by Swan Hill College as part of the student’s regular timetable as 2 double lessons and 1 single lesson each week. Students will need to complete both years to obtain the full qualification. Statements of Attainment will be issued to students with partial completion.

Year 2 Areas of study include Developing knowledge of coaching practices, conducting basic warm up/cool down sessions, planning and conducting programs, facilitating and educating user groups.

Structured Work Placement Students will be expected to undertake structured work placement.

Approximate cost: Materials $90 + work books $100. Plus approximately $50 for practical activities throughout the year.

VCE & VCAL Credit VCE: Students who complete all first and second year units may be eligible for Unit 3 & 4 VCE credit.

Scored Assessment is available so students may complete SACs and the end of year exam to receive a study score towards their ATAR.

VCAL: Students who complete all first year units may be eligible for 2 credits towards their VCAL and meet the Industry Specific Strand requirement.

SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport & Recreation

Year 1 (Year 10, 11 or 12 students)

The VET Sport and Recreation program is suitable for students wishing to pursue a career in the Sports industry or as a pathway to higher education at TAFE or University (i.e. Sports or Event Management, Outdoor Recreation or Physiotherapy fields). Students will be required to actively participate in all activities to complete this course.

Year 1 Students will obtain their First Aid certificate during the first year of this course. Areas of study include Workplace Health and Safety, conducting non instructional sport and fitness sessions and events, developing officiating knowledge, responding to emergency situations and using social media tools for collaboration.

Structured Work Placement: Students will be expected to undertake structured work placement.

Approximate cost: Materials $90 + work books $100. Plus $20 for term 1 swimming program (may vary slightly depending on pool fees )

VCE & VCAL Credit VCE: Students may be eligible for Unit 1 & 2 VCE credit. VCAL: Students may be eligible for 2 credits towards their VCAL and meet the industry strand requirement. Year 10: Students will receive 2 credits towards their following year VCE or VCAL program.
