Have you ever wondered "why" we need a schoolfoundation? An education foundation is a 501(c)(3) publiccharitythatsupportsaschooldistrict, butisgovernedbyanindependent, community-led board of directors. TheVestavia Hills City Schools Foundation is your localeducationfoundationthatsupportstheVestaviaHillsschooldistrictthroughresourcesandcommunityengagement. As theExecutiveDirector of theVestaviaHills City SchoolsFoundation I am often asked “Money? Why does VestaviaHillsneedadditionalresources?Ipayalotofmoneyintaxesandregistration fees thatgodirectly to theschooldistrict.”Aschooldistrict isagovernmentalagencythathastoworkwithin specific regulations, rules and obligations; tryingultimately toprovide educatorswith the tools to teach andprepare students to be successful and productive adults. Many people in the state of Alabama are unaware of thefunding challenges faced by our local school district. AsrecentlyasSeptember2015, ourstate legislaturemade thedecision to remove 80 million dollars from the state'sEducationTrustFund.ThismeansstudentsofVestaviaHillswill be receiving less funds thanwere originally budgeted.Once a district allocates its required expenditures such assalaries, capital improvements, food services, etc. there islittle or nothing left for innovative, pilot, or “above andbeyond” programs. This is where the Foundation can beextremely impactful. The Foundation provides funds forthose"aboveandbeyond"programsthatallowourchildrentheopportunitytoexplore, engage, andwonder. As the Foundation approaches its 20th year in giving, wewould like to thank everyone who has helped fund ourchildren's Foundation. Your gifts allow our children andteacherstheopportunitytoWONDER.AshleyThompson,ExecutiveDirectorVHCSFVestaviaHillsCitySchoolsFoundationMissionStatementTheVestaviaHillsCitySchoolsFoundationexiststoprovideperpetualfinancialsupporttoeachofourschoolsandto
