1 Description and Operation1.1 IntroductionThe 4098-XAD-100/110 series is an aspirating smoke detection system that utilizes an air-sampling pipe network to draw airtowards addressable sensor in an aspirated enclosure. The 4098-XAD is designed to sample air and detect smoke in air ducts.

The XAD unit comes with a pre-installed analog addressable sensor and interface card (4)for use in interfacing with Simplexcontrol panels. The interface card provides a connection point for field wiring from 24 VDC power, SLC communications andother installed accessories.

1.2 4098-XAD-110 Duct ApplicationsThe 4098-XAD-110 is developed specifically for duct applications. It features the 4098-XAD-100 and a duct installation kitdesigned to simplify duct application installations. Refer to table Table 1-2: 4098-XAD-110 Duct Application Parts List forcomplete list of components included with the 4098-XAD-110.

Although flexible tubes are typically used in duct installations, CPVC pipes may also be used together with flexible tubes. Thetotal length of the flexible tube and CPVC pipe must not exceed the specified length. Refer to 4.3: Pipe Network Specification.

1.4 4098-XAD-100 Open Area ApplicationsDesigned for open area applications, the 4098-XAD-100 unit comes pre-installed with analog addressable sensor and interfacecard for connection to Simplex® control panels. This system is designed to cover areas up to 1800 square feet (549 squaremeters).

1.5 Function and Status DisplayThe 4098-XAD-100 provides airflow monitoring circuitry and an aspiration system that is configurable. The airflow level isdisplayed on a ten element bar graph with adjustments for flow sensitivity and high/low flow thresholds. Flow failure is reported tothe interface card via dry contacts and are indicated on the display interface LEDs

1.6 User Function Buttons

Located at the right side of the 4098-XAD-100 sensor housing, the user functionbuttons are used to setup and configure the 4098-XAD-100.

1.7 Interface Card Components

1.7.1 Yellow LEDl When the yellow LED is continuously ON, it indicates a short or open circuit

fault condition on the supervised ALARM circuit.

1.7.2 Red LEDl The red LED flashes to indicate switched ON status.l When the red LED is continuously ON, it indicates ALARM or TROUBLE

conditions.

1.7.3 Field Wiring ConnectorThe field wiring connector of the interface card provides a connection point for fieldwiring of the 4098-XAD-100 to 24 VDC power, SLC communications and otherinstalled accessories.

1.8 Fuse

1.9 Pipe Network Configurations1.9.1 Duct Application Pipe NetworkAn inlet sampling probe and exhaust pipe are inserted into the duct and connected to the 4098-XAD-100 via flexible tubes. Thefigure below shows an overall illustration of a complete installation, with flexible tubes connecting the 4098-XAD-100 to the ductprobe.

Inlet Probe/Exhaust Pipe

The inlet sampling probe enables air to be drawn from the duct and the exhaust pipeenables air to be returned back into the duct.

Smoke Test Port

On duct applications, a smoke test port pipe must be installed at the inlet port of the4098-XAD-100.

Note:

l The smoke test port pipe is included in the detector unit.l Make sure the test port plug is fitted in the smoke test port.l Make sure the rubber grommet is fitted in the junction box

Water Trap (P/N - LF42282) Optional

In humid environments where water is likely to condense in the inlet pipes, anoptional water trap can be used to prevent water entering the 4098-XAD-100. Theclear water trap pipe enables visual inspection of water build-up, and the manuallyoperated ball valve allows for water drainage.

Maintenance staff must drain the water if the level rises more than half in the clearwater trap pipe.

The following recommended measurements must be followed to prevent excesswater overflow to the 4098-XAD-100:

l Clear water trap pipe = 10 5/8" (290 mm)l Horizontal water trap pipe length = 3 15/16” (100 mm)l Vertical water trap pipe length = 7 7/8" (200 mm)l Horizontal inlet pipe = 6 5/16" (160 mm)

Exhaust Pipe

On duct applications, sampled air must be returned to the duct to maintain airpressure balance in the system. The exhaust pipe network connects the exhaust portto the exhaust pipe. It is used to return the sampled air back into the duct.

1.9.2 Open Area Application with Single Pipe NetworkThe style of sample pipe network will be dependent on available wall area for mounting the XAD unit and overall size and shapeof area to be protected. Air samples are drawn into the sampling pipe and carried to the sensor by the aspirator.

For open area application with dual pipe network, the sampling probe pipes should be balanced, i.e. be of equal length and haveequal size and number of holes.

1.10 Pipe Network Components1.10.1 CVPC PipesCPVC pipes are used in pipe network installations. For compliance, the pipe should have a nominal outer diameter (OD) of 1.05in. (26.7 mm). The sample pipe is normally supplied in kits of 210 and 420 feet lengths and is cut as required and joined bysolvent welded sockets (permanent), or socket unions (removable).

Note: The inlet port is tapered to allow a push fit of the sampling pipe. The pipe should be cut squarely to ensure a good, airtightseal. Solvent adhesive should not be used for this joint. Using adhesive on the inlet and outlet port connections will voidthe warranty of the sensor. Refer to Table 1-4 for the open area applications accessories list.

1.10.2 Flexible TubesFlexible tubes are used in duct applications or in places where conventional CPVC pipes cannot be easily installed. It isrecommended that 3/4" (19 mm ) OD, 1/2" (12.7 mm) ID Polyethylene flexible piping is used with an adapter to enable connectioninto the inlet port of the sensor. Refer to Section 1.3 for further information.

1.10.3 FixingsThe installer shall supply pipe clips, saddle clamps and cable ties, as these are not included with the supplied accessories.Fixing centers are typically 4.9ft (1.5 m) apart

1.10.4 Sampling Holes

Sampling Holes for Open Area Applications

The sampling holes are drilled in the CPVC pipes or sampling points during installation.

Sampling Holes for Duct Applications

The sampling probes or exhaust pipes are perforated with sampling holes and caneither be pre-drilled or drilled during installation. Pre-drilled sampling probe/exhaustpipes can be ordered. Refer to Section 1.3 for further information.

Care should be taken to avoid dirt and debris entering the pipe. Always blowcompressed air through the pipe after drilling to clear any debris before finalconnection to the equipment.

In duct applications, the sampling holes must be oriented facing away from theairflow.

Sampling probes and exhaust tubes used in duct applications must be matched withthe same number of holes of the same diameter.

1.10.5 End Cap

End Cap for Open Area Applications

End cap must be fitted at end of the sampling pipe. The end cap typically has asampling hole drilled in its center to control airflow. For pipes with only few samplingholes, it is recommended that the end cap hole is the same size as the samplingholes along the pipe. The hole in the endcap is included in the total number of holes.

End Cap for Duct Applications

End caps without sample holes are required for both sample and exhaust tubes in XAD duct applications. Endcaps are includedin the sampling pipe kit as listed in section 1.3.

1.10.6 Capillary Tube

For above ceiling or concealed open area applications, capillary tube air samplingcan be used. Refer to Table 1-4: 4098-XAD-100 Open Area Application AccessoriesList for ordering information on capillary tube air sampling components.

Note: The maximum allowed length for a capillary tube is 10 feet.

1.10.7 Exhaust Port

In most open area installations, the exhaust port should be left open. However, thereare circumstances where it is necessary to connect exhaust pipe to the exhaust portto divert the exhaust away from the location of the unit e.g. to reduce noise, reducerisk of interference/deliberate obstruction, improved environmental protection and forduct installation.

1.10.8 Air Inlet Filter (Part Number: 80-0020-0)

The sampled air passes through the air inlet filter before entering the sensorchamber.

1.11 Electrical AccessoriesThe following accessories can be ordered.

1.11.1 Remote Alarm Indicator (Model Number: 2098-9808)

The remote alarm indicator is intended for installation to a standard 2" x 3" outlet boxwith a minimum depth of 2". Refer to 2: Installation and Configuration for informationon wiring connection.

The red LED indicator of the remote alarm indicator is ON when the XAD unit is inalarm.

Specification:

l Nominal Current: 1.2 mA

1.11.2 Remote Alarm Indicator / Key Switch (Model Number: 2098-9806)

The remote alarm indicator is intended for installation to a standard 2" x 3" outlet boxwith a minimum depth of 2". Refer to 2: Installation and Configuration for informationon wiring connection.

The key switch activates the alarm relay, remote LED and switches the XAD unit intoalarm. The red LED indicator of the remote alarm indicator is ON when the XAD unitis in alarm.

1.11.3 Remote Relay (Model Number: 4098-9843)

The 4098-XAD-100 provides a supervised control circuit to drive up to 15 remoterelays.

Specification:

1.11.4 End-of-Line Resistor (Model Number: 4081-9008)

A simple 10 k ohm resistor is factory installed on terminals 15 and 16 of the interfacecard. It is used to satisfy supervisory requirements on terminals 15 and 16.

If remote relay is fitted, the simple resistor must be removed from terminal 15 and 16and the end of line resistor (p/n 4098-9008) connected at the end of the ALARMcircuit. Refer to 2: Installation and Configuration for information on wiring connection.

2 Installation and Configuration2.1 General InstallationNotes:

l This equipment must be installed by factory trained installer in accordance with all local and national code requirements.l All connections to the main circuit board are made to the terminal block that can accommodate wire sizes from 18 AWG -

 12 AWG.l The sampling pipe is drilled with sampling holes. The holes can be drilled before or after installation.l Use pipe cutting shears or wheel type plastic tube cutter to cut pipes to specified length. Ensure that cuts are square.l Care should be taken to avoid debris entering the pipe. Always blow compressed air through the pipe after drilling to clear

any debris before final connection to the equipment.l It is important that the correct diameter sampling hole is drilled as the diameter of the sampling hole affects the

performance and efficiency of the system.l Sampling holes must be drilled at 90 angles to the pipe.l The sampling hole must be drilled using slow drill speed with a sharp drill bit to avoid dust, swarf or burrs entering the

sampling pipe.l Attach adhesive labels to help identify the sampling points. Refer to Table 1-4: 4098-XAD-100 Open Area Application

2.2 4098-XAD-100 InstallationNotes:

l The 4098-XAD-100 must be installed at an accessible position to facilitate maintenance and testing.l Make sure that the exhaust pipe is free from any obstacles at all times.l Ensure that the 4098-XAD-100 is secure and accessible only to authorised personnel.

Rules to Follow:

1. While not mandatory, it is recommended that when possible locateprobes a minimum of six duct widths downstream from bends or inlets.Such locations ensure that air flow is non-turbulent and that smoke isproperly mixed with air in the duct for maximum detector/sensorefficiency.Note: Installation of a duct detector/sensor to a round duct is the same

as shown in Figure 2-2 and Figure 2-3, as long as the round ductis 18 inches or larger (45.7 cm) in diameter.

2. Position the probes so that dampers do not restrict air flow at the probelocation. See Figure 2-1.

3. Position the probes on the return or supply duct of the equipment’s airhandling system. However, probes should NOT be installed in the returnair damper branch. See Figure 2-1.

4. Position the probes on branch lines if close identification of the alarmsource is required.

5. Position the probes on the downstream side of filters to sense fire infilters. However, should the filters block, sufficient air flow may not beavailable for proper detector/sensor operation. See Figure 2-1.

6. Whenever possible, position the probes where they can be convenientlyobserved.

7. Position the probes in return air ducts ahead of mixing areas.8. Do not position the probes next to outside air inlets unless you want to

monitor smoke entry to the handling system from an adjacent area.9. Position the probes upstream of air humidifiers and cooling coils.

Installation Procedure:

1. Using the special tool provided (Tool 0793A), unscrew the tamper prooffasteners (four places).

2. Remove the transparent cover.3. Tape the mounting template on to the mounting surface and drill four holes in

the wall as marked on the template. Remove template after the holes havebeen drilled. The mounting template is included with the detector unit.

4. Secure the 4098-XAD-100 to the installation point.5. Using a suitable tool, remove the appropriate knock-out plate.6. Insert the specified conduit and wires.

Note:

l It is recommended that the installer use an ASTM No. 8 mounting hardwareof suitable type for the given mounting surface.

2.3 Wiring Connection

Note: All connections to the sensor are made through the connector of theinterface card. The interface card terminals are rated for18 to 12 AWG conductors.

Wiring Procedures

l If conduit is required, route conduit to the most convenient knockout,remove knockout and secure to the assembly using suitable fittings.

l Connect wires to the appropriate terminals within the XAD housing inaccordance with the system wiring diagram and the appropriate typicalinstallation diagram.

l Perform all wiring in accordance with the requirements of the NationalElectric Code® and local codes.

l Connect the optional accessory as specified in the followingparagraph and the associated installation and wiring diagrams.

2.4 Accessory InstallationThe 2098-9806, 2098-9808, 4098-9830 and 4098-9834 accessories are intended for installation to a standard 2-inch x 3-inchoutlet box having a depth of at least two inches. Refer to Figure 2-7 for details. Make wiring connections in accordance with theinstallation wiring diagram prior to attaching accessory to the box.

Note: Maximum wire length to test terminals and remote LED is 250 feet.

2.5 Pipe Network InstallationThis section provides a simple guide to pipe installation and should contain the information required for simple installationsbased on the standard configurations.

The position of each individual sampling point should be in accordance with the rules for the positioning of sensors. It is importantto note that the concentration of smoke on an individual sample point will be diluted by the clean air from the other sample pointsand the end cap hole.

Note: The inlet and outlet ports are tapered to allow a push fit of the sampling pipe. Do not use adhesive on the inlet and outletport connections. It will be difficult to service the 4098-XAD-100 in the future if these ports are permanently bonded to thepipe. Using adhesive on the inlet and outlet port connections will void the warranty of the 4098-XAD-100.

2.5.1 Duct Pipe Network InstallationNotes:

l The sample and exhaust tubes should be installed in a location of relatively non-turbulent air flow and within the intendedopening velocity range of 0-4000 feet per minute (0 to 1220 m/minute). It is recommended that measurements of airflowand examination of engineering specifications that define expected duct air velocities under all conditions. This is done todetermine if a location is suitable for duct sampling operation. An Alnor Instrument Co. (Chicago) Model 6000P Velometeror equivalent (not supplied) may be used to check the duct air velocity.

l The sampling holes must be oriented facing out of the airflow. Refer to Section 1.10.4: Sampling Holes.l There must be at least 1 hole for every 1 foot of the inlet probe.l The inlet probe and outlet probe must have equal number of same diameter of holes in order to have a balanced airflow

in the pipe network.l Do not drill holes in the flexible tubes.

Inlet Probe and Exhaust Pipe Installation

1. Mark the location of the mounting plates.2. Drill or cut-out 2.0" in - 2.2" ( 50 mm - 55 mm) holes in the duct wall.3. Cut the flexible tubes to the correct length.4. Install the pipe compression adaptor coupling to the elbow connector. Tighten

until secure.5. Insert the duct plate grommet to the duct probe mounting plate.6. Dis-assemble the pipe compression adaptor coupling and insert the threaded

end through the rubber grommet.7. Assemble the pipe compression adaptor coupling, duct probe mounting plate,

inlet sampling probe and exhaust pipe.8. Tighten the pipe compression adaptor coupling until the sampling probes are

secure.9. Insert the flexible tube to the elbow connector. Tighten until the tube is secure.10. Install the end caps to the inlet sampling probe and exhaust pipe.11. Using screws or rivets, secure the duct probe assembly to the duct.

Inlet Tube Selection

After trimming the inlet tube opposite to the slot, secure an end cap or rubber plug to the end tube.

Flexible Tube/CPVC Pipe Installation

1. Check the pipe network design documents of the given application to gather the size, configuration and mountingspecification of the pipes.

2. Measure and mark the spots specified for the pipe mounting clips.3. Secure the mounting clips to the specified locations.4. Temporarily join the flexible tubes/CPVC pipes and secure them on the mounting clips.5. Insert the inlet and exhaust pipe to the 4098-XAD-100.6. Test the operation of the system.7. After successful completion of the test, tighten all the flexible tube connectors until secure. If CPVC pipes are used, bond

the pipes together using suitable adhesive. Do not use adhesive on the XAD inlet and outlet port connections.8. Attach the appropriate labels to the duct wall near the sampling probe and exhaust pipe. Refer to Table 1-4: 4098-XAD-

2.5.2 Field Fabrication of sample tubes 60 to 120 inches longLocally source ½” diameter Galvanized (EMT) for use in constructing duct sample and exhaust tubes for use with the XAD unit onduct widths between 60 and 120 inches. The following procedure will guide the creation of one inlet sample tube and oneexhaust tube.

Sample Tube

1. Measure duct width for exact dimension (60” – 120”).2. Transfer measurement made in step 1 to conduit to be used for sample tube. Add another 4” to allow the sample tube to

exit the duct on both ends. This additional length will allow for support on far end and connection of flexible tubing on nearend.

3. Cut conduit to length with appropriate cutting tool.4. Clean cut end of burrs and sharp debris to provide a smooth edge. This is key for attaching compression fittings to sample

tube during installation.5. Mark hole location along straight line on sample tube. Holes are spaced 12 inches apart along the length starting at 12

inches from the near end. Do not mark holes closer than 6 inches from far end of sample tube.6. Drill holes using a 1/8” drill bit following the marked hole locations made in step 5. Make note of total number of holes

drilled.7. Clean holes of any burrs. Using compressed air blow out any metal debris from inside sample pipe.8. Sample tube is now ready for use in section 2.4.1 inlet probe and exhaust tube installation.

Exhaust Tube

1. Measure and mark conduit at 18”. Cut conduit to length with appropriate cutting tool.2. Clean cut end of burrs and sharp debris to provide smooth edge. This is key for attaching compression fittings during tube

installation.3. Starting at 4” from near end mark holes every 1” in a straight line along the length of exhaust tube. Mark the same number

of holes as noted in step 6 above for sample tube. Do not mark holes closer than 2 inches from far end of exhaust tube.4. Drill holes using a 1/8” drill following marked hole locations made in step 3 above.5. Clean holes of any burrs. Using compressed air blow out any metal debris from inside exhaust tube.6. Exhaust tube is now ready for use in section 2.4.1 inlet and exhaust tube installation.

2.6 Configuration2.6.1 Sensor Address ConfigurationThis section details the address configuration procedure of the 4098-XAD-100/110 detector when connected to a UL listedSimplex Fire Alarm Control Panel supplying IDNet™ or MAPNET II® communications.

The sensor address configuration procedure is critical part of the installation process. Ensure that each sensor is assigned aunique address which will identify it's physical location. The 4098-XAD-100/110 unit occupies one device address on the SLC.

Note: The DIP switches are located at the interface card.

1. To enable updates to the system, enter the three digit access code (510).

Entering Numbers Into the System

Each number is sequentially selected. During this operation, the CODE LED flashes.

Example: Entering the number 5 into the system.:

1. Press the CHANGE key six times (pressing one time selects 0).2. When the number 5 LED illuminates, press the SELECT button.3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for numbers 1 and 0 to complete the 510 access code entry.

2. The UNLOCK LED illuminates on successful entry

Flow Calibration Process

When all tubing / piping has been installed and verified to be as designed the flow calibration procedure can be activated.

Press CHANGE key for at least 2 seconds to initiate the flow calibration process.

FAN and POWER LEDs flash to indicate calibration in progress. Fan is temporarily stopped as part of the calibration process.The system will reset and revert to normal operating mode when flow calibration is completed.

2.7 Set-up NotesThe Fan Speed, Flow Limits and Flow Sensitivity need to be set for each installation prior to Flow Calibration and testing. It is notpossible to provide the ideal setting for all possible installations but the following guidelines should assist in the commissioningof the unit.

2.7.1 Fan SpeedThe fan speed should be set to level 9 to achieve the fastest transport time from the sampling point to the sensor. This isparticularly important for long pipe length installations. For duct applications a fan speed 9 is recommended.

For short pipe length applications, the fan speed can be decreased to lower power consumption. When decreasing the fanspeed, make sure the transport time do not exceed the regulatory requirements (120 seconds).

2.7.2 Flow DelaysBy default, an increase or decrease in flow beyond the FLOWHIGH and FLOW LO limits will result in a FLOW FAULT after adelay of approximately 30 seconds. Once the flow is returned to a normal level, the fault condition will be cleared within 18seconds.

In environments where the sampled airflow may be affected by sudden temperature or pressure changes, or if there is a risk ofphysical interference of the sampling point (e.g. prison cell applications) then it may be necessary to increase the delay betweenwhen flow limit has been exceeded and instigating a FLOW FAULT condition.

2.7.3 Flow SensitivityThis setting determines the units responsiveness in reporting blocked sampling points or broken pipes.

The default flow sensitivity value of 9 will configure the unit to declare a flow fault whenever there has been a change involumetric airflow of ± 20% from the calibrated reading for at least the duration of the flow delay. For most installations, the defaultsetting should be used.

In certain circumstances, such as rapid changes in ambient air pressures due to air handling units, doors opening/closing etc. thedefault setting may appear to be too sensitive. Under these conditions, the flow delay setting should be increased to allow timefor the air pressures to stabilize after the temporary event.

Only under extreme environmental conditions or non standard pipe configurations should decreasing the flow sensitivity beconsidered.

2.7.4 Sensor SensitivityThe sensitivity of the sensor is configured at the Simplex Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP). To adjust the sensitivity of the sensor,refer to the instructions for the specific model of Simplex control panel installed onsite.

Sensor Sensitivity Range:

l For duct applications: 0.5% and 1.0% per foot of obscuration.l For open area applications: 1.5% to 3.0% per foot of obscuration.

3 Troubleshooting, Testing and Maintenance3.1 Troubleshooting

3.2 TestingNote:

l Testing should only be carried out by qualified personnel. To prevent unwanted alarms, ensure that the proper authoritieshave been informed and that the unit has been isolated from the fire system.

l In cases where the control panel provides an alarm test facility, this may be used in place of the following alarm tests.

3.2.1 Sensor Testing

Open Area Application Testing

With the unit powered up and top cover removed the sensors can be testedfor functionality using methods described by the manufacturer e.g. SmokeDetector Aerosol Tester (553-673) (1).

Duct Application Testing

1. Unplug the test port plug.2. Spray 3 to 5 seconds burst of smoke from smoke aerosol tester.3. The smoke detector must ALARM within 10 seconds. If the detector

fails to alarm, perform system troubleshooting. Refer to 3.1:Troubleshooting.

4. Insert the rubber plug back to the test port hole to prevent airflowfault in the system.

Basic Unit Test

With the air handling unit OFF and power applied to the air ductdetector/sensor, introduce aerosol into the detector/sensor or activate thebuilt-in test feature as described in the 4098 Detectors, Sensors, and BasesApplication Manual 574-709. Observe alarm LED operation. Restore normaloperation to the sensor by doing a system reset at the panel.

Basic Unit Test with 4098-9830 or 2098-9808 Option

Perform the basic unit test above and observe both alarm LED operation ofthe detector/sensor and remote alarm indicator. Restore normal operation tothe sensor by doing a system reset at the panel.

3.2.2 System TestingThe installed system must be checked with the top cover securely fitted.

Note: For open area applications, smoke should be introduced to the furthest sampling point from the detector.

The choice of smoke source is dependant on the installation but in all cases the smoke must be present for the duration of thetest. If it is possible to get close to the sampling point then a basic, functional check can be carried out with aerosol test smoke.Ensure that the system complies with manufacturer's instructions and all local and national code requirements.

3.2.3 XAD Magnet TestingNote: Perform the magnet test to check the functionality of 4098-XAD-100. Aerosol testing must also be performed to comply with

NFPA requirements.

Remove the junction box cover to access the magnet test switch. Position the 553-810 Magnet Tester on the magnet test switch.Testing a sensor with a magnet reports a value of 255 for actual / peak (exception 4010 panel). Clear the peak value after testing.

3.3 Maintenance3.3.1 Air Inlet Filter Replacement ProcedureWith normal use, the filter element will eventually become contaminated with dust particles, impeding airflow, and it isrecommended that the filter element is changed every 12 months or as necessary. The frequency of filter replacement dependson environmental conditions.

Note: Maintenance should only be carried out by qualified personnel. To prevent unwanted alarms, ensure that the properauthorities have been informed and that the unit has been isolated from the fire system.

Caution: When installing or servicing the unit, ensure that the operator is safely grounded so as toprevent electro-static discharge (ESD) damage to the unit.

1. Using the special tool provided (Tool 0793A), unscrew the tamper prooffasteners (four places).

2. Remove the transparent cover.

2. Lift out the air inlet filter (80-0020-0) from the filter tube(tweezers or long nosed pliers are recommended for thisoperation).

3. Fit a new air inlet filter. Ensure that the filter is notcompressed during fitting and that it is positioned flush withthe edge of the filter tube.

4. Install the transparent cover.

3.3.2 Sensor ReplacementTo properly remove and replace the sensor to the base:

1. Remove power from the 4098-XAD-100.2. Loosen the four screws that secure the clear plastic cover to the housing base.3. Insert a small blade screwdriver into the lock release slot in the base. Rotate the sensor counterclockwise to remove it

from the base.4. Remove dust cover from the replacement sensor (model 4098-9714).5. Insert the sensor into the base and rotate until fully seated. Continue rotation until lock has been engaged.6. Secure the clear plastic cover to the housing using the four screws. (Torque screws to 8-10 inch-pounds).

Notes:

l An audible “snap” indicates proper contact engagement.l System will not operate with dust cover in place.

3.3.3 Maintenance of low airflow conditionsWhen a low airflow fault condition persists on the detector unit it is recommended that the following be checked:

l Verify fan is operating normallyl Verify that air inlet filter is not impeding airflowl In applications using flexible tubing verify that tube is not pinched or kinked – impeding airflow.l In duct applications verify that inlet and exhaust tube holes are not obstructed by debris. If found to be obstructed clean

debris from holes and check for normal airflow condition.
