Auctioneer’s Note: Robert “Bob” Withey passed away in the summer of 2003; however his legacy has flourished here on the Eastern Shore. Mr. Withey went to work at Benjamins from 1941 to 1943, becoming the first interior designer on the shore with a college degree. He was a staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving with the 83rd Infantry Division during the European Theatre. He received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He resumed his career at Benjamins after his military duty from 1946 to 1953. He then owned and operated Robt Withey Interiors from 1953 to 1979, retiring in 1994. His business was then carried on by his son.
