• Instructions in this manual are based on usingthe remote control.

• You also can use the controls on the TV if theyhave the same name as those referred to onthe remote control.

Installation

1) WARNING: To prevent injury, this apparatusmust be securely attached to the floor/wall inaccordance with the installation instructions. Install the TV in a horizontal, stablelocation. Attach the TV to the stand withthe mounting screw (only supplied on32HV10 models).• If the TV is not installed securely, it may lean

or fall over and cause an injury.• To prevent injury, use the exclusive optional

stand or wall-hanging bracket to install

this TV on the oor or wall securely in accordance with a qualied technician.

3) Never stand or climb on the TV.• Educate children about the dangers of

climbing on furniture to reach the TV or itscontrols.

Be especially careful in households with

children to prevent them through climbing on

top of the TV. It may move, fall over, break,

become damaged or cause an injury.

4) Always connect the power plug to anappropriate electrical outlet equipped with110-240 V, AC 50/60 Hz.

Never use the TV outside the specied voltage

range. It may cause a re or an electric shock.

About the fuse (only for E models)

In a three pin earthing-type, the fuse tted

in this plug is approved by ASTA or BSI to

BS1362. It should only be replaced by a

correctly rated and approved type and thefuse cover must be retted.About the use• Make sure to insert the plugs rmly, when

plugging the AC power cord into the TV setend and wall outlet end.

• Make sure to hold the plug, whenunplugging the AC power cord.

• Never use other cord except for suppliedAC power cord, and never use the suppliedpower cord for any other purpose.

5) Never insert or remove the power plug withwet hands.

This may cause an electric shock.

6) Never block or cover the slots andopenings in the cabinet.• Never place the TV so that it is facing

upward or on its side.• Never place the TV in a closet, bookcase or

other similar area where the ventilation ispoor.

• Never drape a newspaper, tablecloth or

curtain on the TV.• When installing the TV against a wall,

always keep the TV at least 10 cm awayfrom the wall.

• Never place the TV on a soft unstablesurface, such as a carpet, or a cushion.

The inside of this TV will overheat if the

ventilation holes are covered, blocked or

sealed, which may result in a re.

7) Never place the TV near a heater or indirect sunlight.

The surface of the cabinet or power cord maymelt and result in a re or an electric shock.

8) Never place the TV in an area exposedto high humidity levels, such as in abathroom or close to a humidifier.

This may cause a re or an electric shock.

9) Never place the TV next to a stove where itwill be exposed to oil, smoke, or steam, or

in a location where there is a large quantityof dust.

This may cause a re or an electric shock.

10) Precautions for moving the TV• When moving the TV, be sure to remove the

plug from the wall outlet and disconnect theaerial cable and audio/video cables, anysteady ties and mounting screw. A re or anelectric shock may result if the power cord isdamaged.

• When carrying the TV, at least two people

are needed. Be sure to carry it upright.• Never carry the TV with the screen facing upor down.

11) Precautions for installing on outdoor aerial

An outside aerial system should not be

located in the vicinity of overhead power lines,

or other electric light or power circuits.

If the aerial falls down or drops, it may cause

an injury or an electric shock.

Use

1) Never place hot objects or open flamesources, such as lighted candles ornightlights, on or close to the TV.

High temperatures can melt plastic and lead to res.

2) The apparatus shall not be exposed todripping or splashing and that no objectsfilled with liquids, such as vases, shall beplaced on the apparatus.

When liquids are spilled or small items are

dropped inside the TV, this may cause a re or

an electric shock.If small objects drop inside the TV, turn off the

TV and remove the power plug from the outlet

immediately and contact a service technician.

3) Never insert objects (metal or paper)or pour water inside the TV throughventilation holes and other openings.

These items may cause a re or an electric

shock. If these objects are inserted inside the

TV, turn off the TV and remove the power plug

from the outlet immediately and contact a

service technician. Be especially careful that

children do not insert objects in the TV.

4) When the TV will not be used for a longperiod of time, such as during vacation ortravel, remove the power plug from the walloutlet for safety.• The TV is not completely disconnected from

the power supply line, as minute current isconsumed even when the 1 Power switch is

turned off.• The Mains plug or an appliance coupler isused as the disconnect device, thereforethe disconnect device shall remain readilyoperable.

5) Never pull on the power cord whenremoving the plug from the wall outlet.

Always hold the plug rmly when removing

it. If the power cord is yanked, the cord may

become damaged and a re or an electric

shock may occur.

6) Never cut, break, modify, twist, bunch up orbent the cord or apply excessive force ortension to it.

Never place heavy objects on the cord or allow

it to overheat as this may cause damage, a

re or an electric shock. Contact a service

technician if the power cord is damaged.

7) If there is thunder or lightning, never touchthe aerial cable or other connected cables.

You may suffer an electric shock.

Service

1) Never repair, modify or disassemble the TVby yourself.

It may cause a re or an electric shock.

Consult a service technician for inspection and repairs.

2) When a malfunction occurs, or if smoke oran unusual odor comes from the TV, turnoff the TV and remove the power plug fromthe outlet immediately.

Make sure that the smoke or smell hasstopped, then contact a service technician.

If the TV is still used in this condition, it may

cause a re or an electric shock.

3) If the TV is dropped or the cabinet isbroken, turn off the TV and remove thepower plug from the outlet immediately.

If the TV has power in this condition, it may

cause a re or an electric shock. If the cabinet

is broken, be careful when handling the TV to

prevent an injury.

Contact a service technician for inspection and repair.

4) When the TV reaches the end of its usefullife, ask a qualified service technician toproperly dispose of the TV.

Note:

The lamp unit contains a small amount of

mercury. Disposal of mercury may be regulated

due to environmental considerations.

Dispose of the used lamp unit by the approvedmethod for your area. For disposal or recyclinginformation, please contact your local authorities.

Cleaning

1) Remove the power plug before cleaning.

Never use solvents such as benzine or thinner

to clean the TV.• These solvents may distort the cabinet or

damage its nish.• If rubber or vinyl products remain in contact

with the TV for a long time, a stain may result.If the cabinet becomes dirty, clean it with a

soft, dry cloth.

When cleaning the surface of the LCD display,

wipe the panel surface gently with a soft, dry

cloth.

2) Periodically disconnect the power plugfrom the outlet and check it.If dust has collected on the power plugconnectors, clean off the dust with a drycloth.

This dust may cause a re due to reduced

insulation on the plug.

Important information

1) About LCD screen• If you have the LCD screen facing to the

sun, the LCD screen will be damaged. Beaware of locating the TV close to a windowor outdoors.

• Never press the LCD screen strongly orscratch it, and never put anything on it.

These actions will damage the LCD screen.

2) About cabinet and LCD screen

Never spray volatile compounds such as

insecticide on the cabinet and LCD screen.

This may cause a discolouration or damage

the cabinet and LCD screen.

3) Some pixels of the screen do not light up

The LCD display panel is manufactured

using an extremely high level of precision

technology, however sometimes some pixelsof the screen may be missing picture elements

or have luminous spots. This is not sign of

malfunction.

4) About Interference

The LCD display may cause interference

in image, sound, etc. of other electronic

equipment that receives electromagnetic

waves (e.g. AM radios and video equipment).

5) About using under the low temperature

placesIf you use the TV in the room of 0°C or less,

the picture brightness may vary until the

LCD monitor warms up. This is not a sign of

malfunction.

6) About afterimage

If a still picture is displayed, an afterimage

may remain on the screen, however it will

disappear. This is not a sign of malfunction.

Connecting an aerial

Optimum reception of colour requires a goodsignal and will generally mean that an outdooraerial must be used.The exact type and positioning of the aerial willdepend upon your particular area.

Your Toshiba dealer or service personnel canbest advise you on which aerial to use in yourarea.Before connecting the aerial cable, turn off allmain power switches.

Exploring your new TV

Installing the remote control batteriesRemove the battery cover.Insert two R03 (AAA) batteries matching the –/+polarities of the battery to the –/+ marks insidethe battery compartment.

Cautions: • Dispose of batteries in a designated disposal

area. Batteries must not be exposed toexcessive heat such as sunshine, fire or thelike.

• Attention should be drawn to the environmentalaspects of battery disposal.

• Never mix battery types or combine usedbatteries with new ones.

or if the operating range becomes reduced,replace both batteries with new ones.

• When turning on your electronic components,turn on the TV rst, and then the HDMI device.

• When turning off your electronic components,turn off the HDMI device rst, and then the TV.

• This TV may not be compatible with featuresand/or specications that may be added in thefuture.

• This TV is only operable with L-PCM on

32/44.1/48 kHz and 16/20/24 bits.• This TV is able to connect with HDMI devices.

But it is possible that some HDMI devices maynot operate properly with this TV.

Turning the TV on

Switching on the TV

Connect the power cord to a wall outlet, the1 power indicator lights in red (standby mode).

1 Press on the remote control or on the TVleft side panel, the 1 power indicator lights ingreen.

Note: If you watch black and white programmes whenthe Colour System mode is set to Auto , colournoise may appear on the screen. In this caseselect the appropriate Colour System (For thesystem of each country or region, refer to pages10, 15).

Switching off the TV

1 Press on the remote control or on the TVleft side panel to switch to the standby mode.

Notes: • When the TV will not be used for a long period

of time, such as during vacation or travel,remove the power plug from the wall outlet.

• The TV will automatically turn itself off afterapproximately 15 minutes if it is tuned to avacant channel or a station that completes itsbroadcast for the day. This function does notwork in external input or Blue screen Off mode.

• If power is cut off while you are viewing the TV,the Last Mode Memory function turns on theTV automatically when power is applied again.If power is going to be off for a long time andyou are going to be away from your TV, unplugthe power cord to prevent the TV from turningon in your absence.

Learning about the menu system

We suggest you familiarize yourself with thedisplay charts before using the menu system:

• Press MENU to display menu, then press v orw to select main menu headings.

• Press s or r to select an item.• Press v or w to select or adjust setting.• Press OK to display the next menu.

Connecting an HDMI deviceThe HDMI input on your TV receives digital audioand uncompressed digital video from an HDMIdevice.This input is designed to accept HDCPprogramme material in digital from CEA-861-Dcompliant consumer electronic devices (such asa set top box and DVD player with HDMI output).The HDMI input is designed for best performancewith 1080i (50/60 Hz) and 1080p (50/60 Hz)high-denition video signals, but will also acceptand display 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, and 720p(50/60 Hz) and VGA (VESA 640 × 480 @ 60 Hz)signals.• HDMI: High-Denition Multimedia Interface• HDCP: High-bandwidth Digital Content

Protection• CEA-861-D compliance covers the

transmission of uncompressed digital videowith high-bandwidth digital content protection,which is being standardized for reception ofhigh-denition video signals. Because this isan evolving technology, it is possible that somedevices may not operate properly with the TV.

• Acceptable PC signal format: S-VGA: VESA 800 5 600 @ 60 Hz XGA: VESA 1024 5 768 @ 60 Hz W-XGA: VESA 1280 5 768 @ 60 Hz W-XGA: VESA 1360 5 768 @ 60 Hz S-XGA: VESA 1280 5 1024 @ 60 HzHowever, these signal formats are converted tomatch the number of pixels of the LCD panel.

Therefore, the TV may not display small textproperly.If you connect this unit to your PC, thecompressed image is displayed in S-XGA mode,therefore the picture quality may deteriorate andcharacters may not be read.• L-PCM: Linear-Pulse Code Modulation• Supported Audio format: L-PCM sample rate

Selecting the menu language

Choose from 8 different languages (English,Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic,Persian or French) for the on-screen display.

1 From the SETUP menu, press s or r toselect Language.

2 Press v or w to select the desired language.

Programming channels into the TV’schannel memory

• First, use the Auto Tuning function to preset allthe active channels in your area automatically.Then, arrange the preset channels with theManual Tuning function so that you can tuneinto only desired channels.

• Use the Manual Tuning operation if desiredchannels cannot be preset with the AutoTuning or if you would like to preset channelsto specic position numbers one by one.

• If a signal with a different Colour System is received after you have set Auto Tuning,switch to the correct Colour System in theManual Tuning menu.

1 From the SETUP menu, press s or r toselect Auto Tuning.

2 Press OK to display the Auto Tuning menu.Auto Tuning

Previous settings will be Lost!

Press EXIT for no change.

3 Press OK to start the automatic search.The search will begin for all available stations.

4 When the automatic search is completed,the TV will automatically appear the rstprogramme position.

5 Press PU or P u to view the programmedposition.

Note: When you preset the channel which soundof broadcast transmission system adopts “M”

system, the sound system may not be tunedcorrectly if the radio waves transmit badly. At thattime, preset the channel by Manual Tuning .

When a station is found, it will be displayed. NEVER PRESS ANY OTHER BUTTONS

Station labels appear under the programmeposition display each time you turn on theTV, select a channel, or press .

To change or create station labels:

1) Press s or r repeatedly to select acharacter for the rst space, then pressv or w.

2) Repeat step 1) to enter the rest of thecharacters. If you would like a blankspace in the label name, you mustchoose a blank space from the list ofcharacters.

Press OK to store your settings.

Sorting positions• The TV is capable of receiving a number of

different channels depending upon where youlive.

• Sorting programme position is an easy wayof storing each channel on the programmeposition of your choice.

Ex.: To swap channel ABCD (Prog.1) for channelMNOP (Prog.4):

The label allows you to label each inputsource for your TV.

To change or create labels:

1) Press s or r repeatedly to select acharacter for the rst space, then pressv or w.

2) Repeat step 1) to enter the rest of thecharacters. If you would like a blankspace in the label name, you mustchoose a blank space from the list of

characters.Press OK to store your settings.

Resetting the TVReset TV will reset all TV settings, includingstored channels, to their original factory values.

1 From the SETUP menu, press s or r toselect Reset TV.

2 Press OK to select.A screen will appear warning that all settingswill be lost. Select Yes and press OK tocontinue.

Picture adjustment

Selecting the Picture Size

1 Press until the Picture Size list appearson the screen, then press s or r to selectthe appropriate Picture Size (or press

repeatedly to select the desired Picture Size directly).

WideUse this setting when watching a wide-screenDVD, widescreen video tape or a 16:9 broadcast(when available). Due to the range of wide-screen formats (16:9, 14:9, 20:9 etc.), you maysee bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

4:3Use this setting to view a true 4:3 broadcast.

Super Live (only analogue aerial and standardvideo input sinal)This setting will enlarge a 4:3 image to t thescreen by stretching the image horizontally,holding better proportions at the centre of theimage. Some distortion may occur.

PC Normal (only HDMI signal input)Use this setting for PC connected via HDMIterminal when receiving PC signal format. Thissetting will display the image correctly withoutdistortion or picture clipping.

PC Wide (only HDMI signal input)Use this setting for PC connected via HDMIterminal when receiving PC signal format. Thissetting will display the image without pictureclipping.

Notes: • Using the special functions to change the size of

the displayed image (e.g. changing the height/ width ratio) for the purpose of public display orcommercial gain may infringe on copyright laws .

• If the aspect ratio of the selected format isdifferent from the one of the TV transmissionor video programme, it can cause a differencein vision. Change to the correct aspect ratio

picture size.

Activating the picture qualityYou can adjust the basic picture quality.

1 From the PICTURE menu, presss orr toselect either Backlight, Contrast, Brightness,Colour, Tint or Sharpness and press OK.

2 Press v or w to adjust the settings.

Selecting the Colour Temperature

You can change the tone of the picture byselecting from three preset colour temperatures:Cool, Natural or Warm.

1 From the PICTURE menu, press s or r toselect Colour Temperature.

2 Press v or w to select mode you prefer. Cool : Lends a blue hue to the picture. Natural : Neutral Warm : Lends a red hue to the picture.

Activating the Noise ReductionIf the receiving signal is weak and the picture isblurry, the picture may be improved when usingthis function.

1 From the PICTURE menu, press s or r toselect Noise Reduction.

2 Press v or w to select Off, Low, Middle orHigh.

1 From the PICTURE settings menu, press s or r until Reset is selected and press OK.

Setting the MTS (Multi-channel TV Sound)

Auto modeThe MTS Auto mode automatically recognizestereo/bilingual programmes depending on thebroadcast signal.

1 From the SOUND menu, press s or r toselect MTS.

2 Press v or w to select Auto or Mono.

Mono modeIf you experience noise or poor reception of anystereo/bilingual programme, set the MTS modeto Mono.Noise will be reduced and reception mayimprove.

Note: If you experience noise with a particularprogramme on whose channel reception isusually good, try setting MTS mode to Auto ,then switch to e Mono (monaural).

Selecting the Dual 1 or Dual 2 modeYou can hear only Dual 1 or Dual 2 soundselected, whenever bilingual programmes arereceived.

1 From the SOUND menu, press s or r toselect Dual.

2 Press v or w to select Dual 1 or Dual 2.Notes: • When the MTS setting is in Mono mode, the

Dual menu is not selectable.• The Dual menu setting status remains even if

the TV is turned off.

Adjusting Audio Level Offset

Sometimes there can be large changes involume when switching from an ATV channel oran external input. Using this feature reducesthese volume differences.

1 From the SOUND menu, press s or r toselect Audio Level Offset and press OK.

2 Press s or r to select an option and pressv or w to adjust the volume level.

FUNCTION menu

Panel LockPanel Lock disables the buttons on the TV. Allbuttons on the remote control can still be used.

1 From the FUNCTION menu, press s or r toselect Panel Lock .

2 Press v or w to select On or Off.Note: When Panel Lock is On , a reminder will appearwhen the buttons on the TV are pressed.

If the standby button is pressed, the TV willswitch off and can only be brought out of standbyby using the remote control.

Activating Blue ScreenWith the Blue Screen function On, the screenwill automatically turn blue and the sound will bemuted when no signal is being received.

1 From the FUNCTION menu, press s or r toselect Blue Screen.

2 Press v or w to select On or Off.

Adjusting the brightness of Side PanelYou can adjust the brightness of Side Panel in4:3, etc. mode.

1 From the FUNCTION menu, press s or r toselect Side Panel.

2 Press v or w to adjust the settings asrequired.

Changing the position

1 Enter the desired position number using theNumber buttons on the remote control.For positions below 10, use 0 and therequired number e.g., for position 1.

2 You can also change the position by using PUor P u.The position will be displayed on the screenwith the Mono/Stereo/Dual audio status.

Note: Changing positions between different format

channels takes several seconds.

You can switch two positions without enteringactual position number each time.

1 Select the rst position you want to view.

2 Select the second position with the Number buttons (0-9).

Setting the Sleep Timer menu

The Timer is especially useful if you want the TVto turn itself off after a selected period of time.

1 Press SLEEP and press v or w (SLEEP)to set the required Sleep Timer (Turn off the

TV).The timer display will set by 10 minutes, up to12 hours.

To cancel the Sleep Timer: Press v or w (SLEEP) until the timers set to00:00.

Troubleshooting

Before calling a service technician, please checkthe following table for a possible cause of thesymptom and some solutions.

The brightness of the screen comesdown, or flickers of the screen arecaused, or some parts of the screen donot light up.

• When you just buy and start to use this TV,a ickering may be caused in the screen. Inthis case, switch off the TV, then switch on itagain to cure the condition.

• The cold cathode uorescent lamp used forthe back light on this TV has longevity. Whenthe brightness of the screen comes down,or the ickers of the screen are caused, orsome parts of the screen do not light up,it may reach the end of its life. Contact aservice technician.

Some pixels of the screen do not light up• The LCD display panel is manufactured

using an extremely high level of precision

technology, however, sometimes somepixels of the screen may be missing pictureelements or have luminous spots. This is nota sign of a malfunction.

The picture brightness varies when youdisplay switch the TV on.

• If you switch the TV on at 0°C and under,wait until the warms up.

Multiple images• The station may have broadcast difculties.

Try another channel.• Aerial reception may be poor. Use a highdirectional outdoor aerial.

• Check if the direction of the aerial has changed.

Poor colour or no colour• The station may have broadcast difculties.

Try another channel.• Adjust the Tint and/or Colour in the

PICTURE menu.

The remote control does not operate• Remove all obstructions between the remote

control and the remote control sensor on the TV.• The remote control batteries may be dead.

Replace the batteries.
