VERSIONS Project
Scenarios
Introduction• The development of a set of scenarios relating to
version identification grew out of the JISC initiative to collect use cases and scenarios from projects in the Digital Repositories Program.
• The scenarios pick out specific issues relating to the versions issue and aim to illustrate how each can be managed in a positive manner.
The process• Between October 2005 and February 2006 a series of
interviews were conducted with academic researchers, library staff and a taught course student at several of the Nereus partner institutions.
• Interviewees were questioned about their current attitudes and practice in relation to versions.
• The questions were designed to encourage respondents to answer in as much detail as possible, thus providing the project team with a large information base to work from.
• The interview notes were then analysed and key themes pulled from them.
• Similar versioning issues were cited by numerous individuals in a variety of different ways.
• The problems cited were grouped and transferred into a representative set of scenarios, which aim to illustrate the management of each in a positive manner.
Further information• For further information on the design and use of
scenarios, please see the JISC Digital Repository Wiki: http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/repositories/digirep/index/Scenarios_and_use_cases
