Changes in product and component namesIBM recently acquired Candle® Corporation. The transition of Candle ordering and service processes is complete. Many changes have been made to this product and its publications to deliver it as an IBM product.

Most of the terminology used to describe the OMEGAMON products in these publications remains unchanged. In some cases, the product release number has been modified. For example, the version of CandleNet Portal® required by this release is version 196. Publications that have been modified (such as Installing and Setting up OMEGAMON Platform and CandleNet Portal on Windows® and UNIX®) include the new version 196 release number on the cover. Publications that have not been modified (such as Administering OMEGAMON Products: CandleNet Portal Version 195 and Using OMEGAMON Products: CandleNet Portal Version 195) continue to carry the previous version 195 release number. The information provided in those books is still valid for version 196.

Candle products have new IBM names, and during this transition period, some publications use the old names and others use the new names. For example, some publications use the term CandleNet Portal and others use the new name Tivoli Enterprise Portal.

Table 1 shows the mapping of the former Candle names for OMEGAMON components to the new IBM Tivoli Monitoring Services names.

For a more complete mapping of previous Candle names and new IBM names, refer to http://www.ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/product-matrix.html

Using Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS V3.1 with Tivoli Monitoring Services V6.1

All Tivoli OMEGAMON XE version 3.1. products are packaged with the OMEGAMON Platform, which includes version 360 of the Candle Management Server and version 196 of the CandleNet Portal. The 3.1. products can also be enabled to run on version 6.1 of the OMEGAMON Platform (Tivoli Monitoring Services), which is packaged with IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.1 and IBM Tivoli Monitoring Services on z/OS V6.1 (product number 5698-A79).

If you are currently running a Tivoli OMEGAMON XE version 3.1 product and you want to upgrade to IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.1 or IBM Tivoli Monitoring Services on z/OS 6.1, or if you want to run your Tivoli OMEGAMON XE version 3.1 product in an environment where Tivoli Monitoring Services V6.1 is already installed, refer to the document OMEGAMON V350/360 agent interoperability, available from the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Information Center: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/index.jsp?toc=/com.ibm.itm.doc/toc.xml.

If you decide to install IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.1 and you have an existing installation of OMEGAMON Platform, take appropriate steps to ensure that the new installation does not overwrite workspaces, situations, and stored data from the previous installation. See IBM Tivoli Monitoring: Installation and Setup Guide for migration instructions.

The publications in the Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS library assume that you are configuring, using, and administering Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS with OMEGAMON Platform V360 and V196.

Installation and configuration of the product

You used the Candle Installation and Configuration Assistance Tool (CICAT) to install and configure the product. This process was documented in the online help for CICAT, and in the installation and configuration guides for the OMEGAMON products.

You install the product by using the IBM System Modification Program/Extended (SMP/E) tool and instructions found in the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS Program Directory. CICAT has been renamed the Installation and Configuration Tool. You still use this tool to configure the product after the SMP/E installation is complete. Information about this process is found in Configuring IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS.

Release Notes 11

Using Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS V3.1 with Tivoli Monitoring Services V6.1

Known issues for the configuration tool V3.1.0In previous releases, the configuration tool was known as CICAT (the Candle Installation and Configuration Assistance Tool). This tool is still used to perform installation and configuration of former Candle products. In this context, the tool is called the Installation and Configuration Tool. However, for OMEGAMON XE zSeries monitoring agents, the tool is used for configuration only, since these products are installed using SMP/E and is called simply the configuration tool.

Table 3 documents known defects and limitations associated with version 3.1.0 of the configuration tool.

Known issues for product or OMEGAMON Platform

Help merge takes a long timeIf you are installing a large number of products, the merge of the help contents may take a long time and the install process may appear to be hung. (The installer tells you what step it is performing.) Allow the installer time to complete the merge: this could take up to as much as 15 minutes.

This problem is fixed in fixpack FP0004, which is not available at the time of this release.

ABEND message at Candle Management Server terminationOn occasion you may see the following message when the Candle Management Server terminates:

ABNORMAL TERMINATION AVERTED: CODE(0C4000)

Table 3. Defects, limitations, and workarounds for the version 3.1.0 configuration tool

Description of Problem Workaround

The same configuration task might seem to occur more than once as you set up a monitoring agent and the related OMEGAMON components.

Be aware that you perform similar configuration tasks for each component.

When performing an operation on one runtime environment (such as Add or Build) from a list of runtime environments (RTEs), the current RTE will always be at the top when you return to the RTE list. Part of the list of resources might be scrolled off the screen and appear to be missing.

Use PF7 to scroll back and view the other RTEs.

Sometimes, you must back up in the configuration tool to ensure that changes made to values are recognized. If you update a value on an earlier ISPF in the Configuration Tool, you need to run the Create runtime job again, even though it was found earlier in the configuration flow. Likewise, if you update the runtime environment (RTE) value, you then proceed to the next step before the JCL is created and run and the requested updates to the RTE are actually made.

For updated configuration parameters to be used by the RTE, it is necessary to perform all subsequent create runtime members actions associated with the changed parameters.

Changes to OMEGAMON for MVS Classic Component

Changes to OMEGAMON for MVS Classic Component

OverviewTivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS has added support for zSeries® Application Assist Processors (zAAPs). zAAPs are a special class of assist processor designed to run Java workloads. Several OMEGAMON for MVS V5.5.0 CPU data collection screens and routines are affected by this support. This section documents these changes.

For reporting purposes, a zAAP is usually referred to as an integrated facility for applications (IFA). You can force Java workloads to execute only on the IFAs, maximizing the offload of work from regular engines, or allow them to execute on CPs when they are not busy. This is known as crossover.

If you allow workloads to run on regular central processors (CPs), you can allow them to run at the priority of the service class (dispatch priority honored) or at a lower priority (dispatch priority not honored).

OMEGAMON Classic Screen Space Changes

Address Space CommandsThree new minor commands have been added:

For example:

Bottleneck Analysis (monj)Two wait reasons have been added to bottleneck analysis:

ifat Time spent by the address space executing on an IFA processor

ifac Time spent the address space executing IFA work on a standard processor

ifax Time spent by the address space executing on a standard processor

Using IFA The percentage of all observed execution states where the address space was found using an IFA. If IFA crossover is permitted, and IFA dispatch priority is honored, execution states where the address space was found to be executing IFA work on a standard central processor, if any, are added to Using CPU. If IFA dispatch priority is not honored, any samples are added to Using IFA.

IFA Wait The percentage of all observed execution states where the address space was found waiting to use an IFA

System Environment Information (SYS/ENV)IFA information has also been added to the System Environment Information report:

Using IFA Is the percentage of all observed execution states where the address space was found using an IFA. If IFA crossover is permitted, and IFA dispatch priority is honored, execution states where the address space was found to be executing IFA work on a standard central processor, if any, are added to the impactors Using CPU. If IFA dispatch priority is not honored, any samples are added to the impactors Using IFA.

IFAS If zAAPs are configured, the number of online and offline zAAPs configured to the current LPAR.

IFA relative processor speed

The speed of IFA processor relative to regular CP expressed as a ratio (n.nn:1)

To contact IBM Software Support, follow these steps:

1. Determining the business impact on page 242. Describing problems and gathering information on page 243. Submitting problems on page 25

Determining the business impactWhen you report a problem to IBM, you are asked to supply a severity level. Therefore, you need to understand and assess the business impact of the problem that you are reporting. Use the following criteria:

Describing problems and gathering informationWhen explaining a problem to IBM, be as specific as possible. Include all relevant background information so that IBM Software Support specialists can help you solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:

What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?

Do you have logs, traces, and messages that are related to the problem symptoms? IBM Software Support is likely to ask for this information.

Can you re-create the problem? If so, what steps were performed to re-create the problem?

Did you make any changes to the system? For example, did you make changes to the hardware, operating system, networking software, and so on.

Are you currently using a workaround for the problem? If so, be prepared to explain the workaround when you report the problem.

What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?

Severity 1 The problem has a critical business impact. You are unable to use the program, resulting in a critical impact on operations. This condition requires an immediate solution.

Severity 2 The problem has a significant business impact. The program is usable, but it is severely limited.

Severity 3 The problem has some business impact. The program is usable, but less significant features (not critical to operations) are unavailable.

Severity 4 The problem has minimal business impact. The problem causes little impact on operations, or a reasonable circumvention to the problem was implemented.

Page 25: Version 3.1publib.boulder.ibm.com/tividd/td/ITOXfOS390/GI11-4038-00/en_US/P… · The 3.1. products can also be enabled to run on version 6.1 of the OMEGAMON Platform (Tivoli Monitoring

Support Information 25

Submitting problemsYou can submit your problem to IBM Software Support in one of two ways:

Online: Click Submit and track problems on the IBM Software Support site at http://www.ibm.com/software/support/probsub.html. Type your information into the appropriate problem submission form.

By phone: For the phone number to call in your country, go to the contacts page of the IBM Software Support Handbook (http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html) and click the name of your geographic region.

If the problem you submit is for a software defect or for missing or inaccurate documentation, IBM Software Support creates an Authorized Program Analysis Report (APAR). The APAR describes the problem in detail. Whenever possible, IBM Software Support provides a workaround that you can implement until the APAR is resolved and a fix is delivered. IBM publishes resolved APARs on the Software Support Web site daily, so that other users who experience the same problem can benefit from the same resolution.
