    distortion0 Guitars e5uipped with low(output pickups seem hotter than usual when plugged

    into this input0

    0o( /ain input &his is a low(sensitivity input0 Guitars plugged into it have moreheadroom "efore distortion sets in :meaning that you can crank up a channel3s volume a

    little louder "efore you e.perience Preamp distortion;0 &his is a good choice for a clean

    overall sound2 and is especially well(suited to active pickups or guitars e5uipped with

    Preamps0

    C!annel + 4oth channels are voiced differently2 and Channel 1 is definitely geared toward

    creating impressive crunch and spongy lead tones while retaining a vintage feel :think of asa great 4ritish tone;0 Grit2 grunge2 dirt((whatever you3re looking for in the distortion

    department is here2 from sweet and singing to hard(driving to ma.imum sustain0 6ote7 Likethe controls on all classic amps2 the &re"le2 $iddle2 and 4ass interact2 creating smooth2

    musical tone changes0 ,ll three controls operate with even response throughout their

    ranges0 &his amp has so much potential gain and sustain2 you should not assume that the'olume controls should "e set on a typical 1

    with the switch pushed in and pulled out0 ith the switch activated2 the tone "looms2 going

    from fat to ferocious0

    C!annel , Channel is e.tremely fle.i"le2 with a flavor that "rings to mind the greatclassic ,merican tones and te.tures0 /ou can get some pretty impressive "lues overdrive

    distortion out of Channel too2 and as a rhythm channel it "rings out every su"tlety of your playing0 &he range of tones can "e anywhere from sparkling(clean to perfect for "luesy

    rhythm((the kind of sound that has an attitude and gets meaner as you pick harder0

    1olume &he 'olume kno" regulates the Preamp3s volume and works with the $aster to set

    the level and distortion amount0 , simple rule of thum" is2 the higher the 'olume is set2 the

    more distortion you get0

    Treble 2(it! Pull ri#!t s(it!4 &his tre"le control is similar in operation to the one onChannel 10 %n addition2 it has a "uilt(in Pull 4right switch0 hen pulled out2 it adds "right

    highlights to the tone0 ,s the 'olume control is increased past a"out A2 the "right switch3s

    effectiveness will "e decreased0

    Middle 2(it! Pull Not! s(it!4 &he midrange circuit has a slight notch in the fre5uencyspectrum at a"out AA< H92 and turning the kno" alters the depth of that notch0 %ts Pull

     6otch switch shifts the fre5uency center of that notch down to a"out A< H90 :For

    ca"inets a sound more akin to an open one2 and vice(versa2 plus you can custom "lend theamount of hardness your final sound has0 6ew to !ivera amps2 first unveiled on Quiana is a

    new Pull arm0 4y pulling this control2 the "ottom end response of the power amp

    section changes as well as the high end2 giving a sweet contoured tone0 &he Focus andPresence controls will also "e modified in their sweep2 increasing their effectiveness0

    Presene &he Presence control is incorporated as a vital part of the power amp section0

    &hink of it as a final "rightness control after all the *Q2 distortion and effects0

    &his ,C line fuse protects your amplifier from damage due to shorts2 momentary surges2

    and defective power tu"es0 %n the event of a fuse failure2 always replace it with the same

    type of fuse0

     6ote7 ,lways turn the amp off and wait a"out five minutes "efore replacing a fuse0 &his

    allows the parts to cool and high voltages to dissipate0

    , speaker must always "e connected to your 'enus +0 &he amp is designed to deliver at

    least =A watts to a 8(1+ ohm speaker load :with the %mpedance selector appropriately set to

    match the given load;0 %f it has to drive speaker loads lower than ohms2 its outputtransformer or other components could "e damaged0 /ou can use ( or 1+(ohm e.tension

    ca"inets2 either alone or in pairs :one into each speaker output;0 , (ohm speaker ca"inet

    alone or a pair of 8(ohm e.tension speaker ca"inets together can "e used2 however2 it is notan optimum match2 and the %mpedance Selector Switch must "e set at it3s lowest setting2 8

    ohms0 &he only time you may run the amp without a speaker connected is if you have a

     proper dummy impedance load "o. plugged into the speaker output0 >sing a dummyload protects the output transformer2 "ut prolonged use shortens the life of the amp3s output

    tu"es when the amp is operated at high levels00 Bust "ecause you cannot hear the amp does

    not mean it is not working hard0 ,lways use a heavy(gauge speaker cord0 &he larger the

    diameter of the wire2 the lesser of power to "e lost0 , shielded guitar cord can3t handle the power that your amp provides2 and therefore won3t sound right((plus it may actually harm

    your amp0 !efer to the connection diagrams for further information0

     6ote7 6ever use a speaker output to connect directly to the input of a mi.er2 a taperecorder2 a slave amp2 or headphones0 For further information2 refer to the hook(up

    diagrams for proper connection with e.tension speaker ca"inets0

    0ine Output

    /our !%'*!, 'enus + amp can drive another !%'*!, amp2 power amp2 or other guitar

    amplifier0 &he Line #ut is post(power amp2 so every "it of tone from your Preamp2 effects:if used;2 and power(amp circuitry is sent from this )ack0 >se a shielded cord connected

     "etween the amp3s Line #ut and the input of a second amplifier :check that amp3s manual((

    it may recommend a specific input;0 &he Line #ut can also "e used to feed a signal to a

    tape recorder or mi.er0 ,lthough the recorder or mi.er doesn3t receive the tone that comesfrom the speaker2 it does receive all of the signal from every other stage of the amp2 and for

    live(performance recording it does an e.cellent )o" of isolating your guitar sound0

     6ote7 -o not connect the Line #ut to speakers or headphones0 For further information2refer to the hook(up diagrams for proper connection0

    Impedane Seletor

    Set the %mpedance Selector to match the impedance load of your internal speakers :

    #hms;2 or a different setting when used with e.ternal ca"inets Here3s how7

    8(ohm setting #ne 8(ohm ca"inet or two (ohm ca"inets :one plugged into each speakeroutput2 like an internal #hm and an e.ternal #hm;;0 >se this setting if a 8 to ohm

    load is needed to drive0

    (ohm setting #ne (ohm ca"inet or two 1+(ohm ca"inets :one plugged into each speaker

    output2 or when using )ust the internal speakers2 #hms;0

     6ote7Loads that are not matched properly may harm your amp0 %f you aren3t sure if your

    speaker load is correct2 contact your !%'*!, dealer2 or call !%'*!, Customer Service0 %fune5ual speaker ca"inets loads2 i0e0 a 8 ohm ca"inet and an ohm ca"inet are used

    together2 une5ual amounts of power may "e distri"uted to these ca"inets due to a nonsymmetrical load0

    -oots(it! 5a" 

    &his (pin -%6 plug is designed to work specifically with the included FS(8 footswitch0/our 'enus + amp will function perfectly without a footswitch0 However2 the footswitch

     provides a hands(free way to switch channels2 select "oost functions and effects loop on or

    off0 %ts four switches control the following7

    • Channel Select Channel 1K•

    Gain 4oost for Channel 1• Gain 4oost for Channel

    • *fffects Loop onKoff 

     6ote7 %f you are using the FS(8 footswitch2 all of the Front Panel switching functions

    remain intact and can "e selected "y the respective controls pull(switch function0 ,lso2 the

    switches and their L*-s are driven "y the amplifier3s power there is no "attery to replace

    inside the FS(80

    6ffets 0oop

    #f course2 you can use pedals and rack(mounted effects "etween your guitar and the amp0%n fact2 that3s where most wah(wahs and other pedals sound e.ceptionally good0 However2

    rack signal processors are often "est suited to "eing placed after the Preamp3s tone(shapingcircuitry0 /our 'enus3s *ffects Loop is designed to give you the "est match "etween the

    amp and the processor "y allowing you to set the level of the signal going to the effect2 as

    well as the one coming "ack0 &herefore2 you can tailor your ampKeffects levels for "estsignal(to(noise ratio and the amount of distortion you want0 6ote7 &he *ffects Loop send

    can "e used to route a signal to a guitar tuner2 recording mi.er2 another guitar amplifiers

    effects loop return :for 4i($ono amping;2 etc0

    &he *ffects Loop comes after the Preamp section0 %n addition2 its low(impedance circuitry

    lets you drive everything from the simplest stomp("o. effect to the most sophisticated prosignal processor with e.cellent results0 %t3s also fully "uffered2 meaning that it can drive

    long cords and line(level gear and mi.ing consoles0 :4ecause the signal is electrically

    un"alanced2 you can use an un"alanced(to("alanced output transformer to connect toe5uipment re5uiring a "alanced input0;

    /ou can also use the *ffects Loop as a sort of power attenuator "y turning it on and

    lowering the send and return level controls0 %tDs assigna"le so you can keep all your

    headroom on channel while attenuating channel 10 &his is great if you like the cranked

    up master tone for thick power amp distortion leads2 at lower volumes0

    4efore you connect a signal processor to your amp2 either turn the amp off or to stand"y0>se high(5uality shielded cords "etween the amp and processor0 6ever use a speaker cord0

    Settin# 6ffets 0oop levels

    10 ,fter you connect the amp3s Send and !eturn with the signal processor3s input and

    output2 pull the !eturn kno" to activate the *ffects loop0 ,ssign it to the desired channel or

     "oth0 &hen set the amp3s Send Level and !eturn Level "etween A and +0

    0 Plug in your guitar2 turn the signal processor on2 and then turn on the amp :or flip the

    stand"y switch;0

    =0 Set the amp3s *ffects Loop Send Level and the signal processor3s input level so that you

    don3t overload the processor0 ?eep your ears open for unwanted distortion from the signal processor :you3ll know it "y its crackly2 unmusical sound;0 hack a few chords on your

    guitar to check that your settings are correct0

    80 6ow turn up the *ffects Loop !eturn kno" until the proper volume and overdrive are

    dialed in0 /ou3ll pro"a"ly have to e.periment with the signal processor3s output level untilyou get the "est sound and lowest amount of noise0

    A0 $ake sure that you consider the straightKeffects "lend at the signal processor2 since all of

    your Preamp3s signal is passed through the *ffects Loop0 /ou may also use the mi.

    output2 if the unit has one2 ad)usting the mi. on the effects processor to suit your taste0

     6ote7 %f delay sounds such as slap echo2 rever"2 and repeat delay will "e your primarychoice of effects2 usually a A

    >sing a heavy(gauge speaker cord2 connect the output )ack la"eled Speaker 1 to the speaker

    input on an e.tension ca"inet with a minimum of a 8(ohm impedance and power(handlingcapacity of at least +< watts for the 'enus +0 , single ( or 1+(ohm e.tension ca"inet can

     "e used2 too0 For the "est tone and ma.imum output2 we recommend using any of the!%'*!, speaker ca"inets loaded with either Celestion 'intage =sing heavy(gauge speaker cords2 connect the output )ack la"eled

    Speaker to the speaker inputs on e.tension ca"inets with a minimum (ohm impedance

    and power(handling capacity of +< watts0 Set the 'enus +3s %mpedance Selector to 8 ohms0

    Drivin# t(o spea"er abinets

    %n this configuration2 the 'enus + is driving two speaker ca"inets with identical

    impedance3s0 >sing heavy(gauge speaker cords2 connect the output )acks la"eled Speaker 1and Speaker to the speaker inputs on e.tension ca"inets with a minimum (ohm

    impedance and power(handling capacity of +< watts0 /ou can also hook up two 1+(ohm

    ca"inets2 "ut avoid if possi"le the use of two 8(ohm ca"inets2 "ecause the overallimpedance load will "e "elow what is optimum for the amplifier and sustained use could

    result in overheating damage0 hen using two (ohm ca"inets2 set the 'enus3s %mpedance

    Selector to 8 ohms0 hen using two 1+(ohm ca"inets2 set it to ohms0

    >sing a shielded cord2 connect the first !%'*!,3s Line #ut to the *ffects Loop !eturn

     )ack on a second !%'*!,0 ,d)usting the !eturn Level of the second amp sets the relative

    volume of the second amp0 ,ll tone and distortion ad)ustments are made "y the first amp0,lternatively2 you can use the *ffects Loop Send )ack from the first amp instead of its Line

    #ut0 &he Send Level control sets the signal level "eing sent to the second amp0 6ote7 $ake

    sure that at least one speaker ca"inet is connected to each amp at all times0

    Connect a shielded cord from your 'enus3s Line #ut to the Power ,mp %n or *ffects Loop

    !eturn of a second amp0 ,ll volume and tone changes made on the 'enus + will affect

    what comes out of the second amp0 Caution7 6ever use the speaker outputs as line outputs0

    &heir power level is e.tremely high and can cause tremendous damage to another amp3sinput0 %f you don3t have any effects patched into the 'enus3s *ffects Loop2 you can use its

    Send )ack instead of the Line #ut0 &he Send Level kno" then acts as a varia"le output level0

    Plain# a si#nal proessor in t!e effets loop

    >sing shielded cords2 connect the *ffects Loop Send to the processor3s input2 and the

     processor3s output to the *ffects Loop !eturn0 ,d)ust the mi.ture of effectKnon(effectsounds at the signal processor2 and set the levels at the amp and processor for lowest

    distortion0 %f you use multiple signal processors2 connect them in series :processor 13s

    output to processor 3s input2 etc0;2 and patch the 'enusDs Send to the first processor3s inputand the 'enus3s !eturn to the last processor3s output0 %f the processor has stereo outputs2

    you can connect one to the *ffects Loop !eturn of a second amp0

    Sendin# a diret si#nal to P9A9 or reordin# #ear

    >sing a shielded cord2 connect the 'enus +3s Line #ut to the line input or channel input of

    a mi.er or recorder0 :&he signal comes from the amp3s output stage2 so all tone2 distortion2and overdrive characteristics are included0; /ou can use the *ffects Loop Send )ack instead

    of the Line #ut2 too0 Caution7 6ever use the speaker output0 /ou will need to ad)ust the

    e5uali9ation of the mi.er carefully2 as this sound differs greatly from a sound heard "y a

    microphone placed in front of a speaker ca"inet0 >sing a Ca"inet *mulator in the signal path may "e a good idea to try0 Speakers act as giant filters2 and as the signal from the Line

    #ut is full fre5uency2 not affected "y the mechanical(acoustic filter of a speaker2 it willhave a lot more high fre5uencies present0

    Care And Troubles!ootin#

    Chances are2 you "ought your !%'*!, amp to make your guitar sound great2 not to

    improve your skills with electronics0 hat we3re saying is2 %f something ever goes wrong

    with your amp2 don3t try to fi. it yourself0 &here are some potentially lethal high voltages

    inside the amp2 plus if you do something that causes even more damage than when youstarted out2 the person who does the real repair will pro"a"ly tell you2 Hey2 % know what3s

    wrong0 Some"ody3s "een monkeying around in here0 ,nd2 of course2 your warranty will "e void0

    &here are some things you can do to keep your amp running and to determine :and

    sauna or in the "athtu"0 -on3t leave it out in the rain or in a damp "asement0 %f you take itto a gig or to practice and it3s cold out2 give it 1A minutes or a half(hour to stand in the

    room where you3ll "e playing0 &hat way2 it can get acclimated and sound its "est whenyou3re ready to play0

    e nie to it9 &he )ury is still out on whether talking to plants makes them happy2 orwhether *lvis lives on the moon2 "ut the verdict on pampering amps is well(known0 -on3t

    drop2 knock over2 kick2 or otherwise mistreat your amp0 %f you don3t have a flight case for

    travel2 use the "o. it came in2 or wrap it in something thick2 soft2 and protective0 !%'*!,

    amps are "uilt to take a lot2 "ut why push itM %f you treat your amp well2 it will treat you

    :and your guitar3s tone; well0

    C!e" for loose tubes9 Here3s as close as you should get to "eing inside your amp0 iththe amp unplugged and cooled off2 e.amine the tu"es to make sure they3re in tight and

    straight0 6ote7 >nlike light "ul"s2 tu"es push straight into their sockets0 6ever try to twistthemN ,lso note that some of the tu"es are inside of metal sleeves0 &hese are easy to

    remove for checking the tu"es0 Grasp the sleeve with your fingers and depress it :it3sspring(loaded; and turn to the left :counterclockwise;0 6ow pull it off this may re5uire a

    little wiggling action0 !emem"er to put the sleeve "ack on after you check the tu"e0

    Ma"e sure t!e po(er ord is ti#!tl% plu##ed in9 &his is critical at "oth ends of the cord0,nd don3t use one of those =(pin(to((pin adapters unless you connect the ground lug to the
