Venous Leg Ulcer Solutions

Reducing the pain and discomfort of venous leg ulcers — and managing the chronic edema that can lead to their development — doesn’t have to be complicated. 3M’s four-step solution can help you deliver effective, standardized treatment.

Compression Therapy — The Standard of Care

Designed for effectivenessEffective management of venous insufficiency — a cause of chronic edema in the lower extremities — is critical to preventing and treating venous leg ulcers.

Studies from clinicians around the world provide evidence that 3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Compression Systems achieve faster reduction in edema, pain, and exudate than other multi-layer compression systems. In a study of patients whose venous leg ulcers had not responded to conventional compression bandaging, 75% of patients reduced their ulcer surface area between 30-40% within the four week trial period.1

In a prospective, multicenter, randomized control trial, Coban 2 Layer Compression System was associated with 100% ulcer healing and pain decreased by 50% within 1-2 weeks of starting treatment and remained low throughout duration of treatment.2

Designed for comfort, mobility and daily living Venous leg ulcer healing times can be twice as long when patients are not compliant with compression therapy. Coban 2 Layer Compression Systems provide sustained, therapeutic compression for up to 7 days; and because the bandages are low-profile and comfortable to wear, patients are more likely to keep them on, increasing compliance and the potential for more effective treatment.3, 4, 5, 6

In a retrospective analysis comparing the records of 675 patients with venous leg ulcers, those who used Coban 2 Layer Compression Systems showed significantly better healing rates compared to other multi-layer bandage systems, and they reported better quality of life.7
